The Official Gavin Henson Thread

hahahaha that would be extremely fun :p
To be honest i'd love to see Henson back in wales (or even playing at all regularly) but do the dragons need the hassle that Henson brings. They've constructed a team of collective talent, and sort of a "non superstar" squad (all respect goes to them). Do they need the hassle of Henson there, surely it would cause some disruptions??? What do some of you dragons fans reckon?? Do you really need a 10/12/15???

We could do with a fullback, with Harries and Thomas out for a while.
He would be better off the bench than Matthew Jones!

Ashley Smith has been solid all season and should be our captain next season. I think Henson could oust him, but he had better make a case. Riley and RGD aren't up to this level, and MJW is nearing retirement I'd imagine. Tovey and Stef Jones seem set to be our standoffs, so he fullback is really his best shot to get into the team.
Would be nice to see Gav turn out for Newport or Cross Keys.

hhhhhmmmmm interesting stuff. Personally id rather see him play 12 (he's also said thats where i prefers i think), so by what your saying, possibly the Dragons isn't his "best option" (it could be his only option :p). Saying that i'd rather see him playing at 15 than playing at all. Arguably some of his best games have been at 15 back in the day (at regional level at least). so it should be interesting stuff :D :D

12 is Henson's best position, I agree.
But, Ashley Smith is the incumbent (and deserves it right now) so Henson will need to somehow break into the side.
Fullback is his best shot at getting a go, so we work from there.
That being said, I think any Welsh side would be happy to have him playing, regardless of off-field opinions.

thankyou Draggs, about time Ashley Smith got more credit, can't believe Gatland thinks that Spratt, Dafydd Hewitt and Scott Williams (from the Principality Premiership) are better than him

Well, don't listen to what I say, I am a Dragons supporter. ;)
I think that he does a good job for us and unlucky not to have a cap yet.
Scott Williams has potential, and I'm still unsure about Hewitt, but I don't rate Spratt. (I hear he is off to London Irish).
I'd like to see Smith and Hughes together in midfield next season, injuries permitting.

On to Gavin:
How long are Toulon going to delay the announcement?! I hear he isn't training with them right now for the match at Montpellier.
Boudjellal seems like he wants to keep Gavin, but Gav's behaviour hasn't helped him. (Reportedly missed a meeting between him and the Toulon management)

Oh really.

Smith has been quality. But only this season has he come to light, was good at the end of last season mind.

Spratt was on form when he was capped for Wales. He is currently not better than Smith because he is always injured. But the FACT remains Spratt was on better form and deserved his two caps in the Summer of 2009 tour. Since then Gatland has not thought he has better than him, otherwise he would be in the setup. Smith will likely get a run out in the summer tests.

Hewitt and Williams only came into the squad for numbers and were not officially called up. They were used as training members and nothing more. Thought you would have known that Mr. Knowledgeable.

I remember throwing Ashley Smith up as a contendor for a cap last summer, but since then he's had injury problems, and is only now begining to come back into form. (He was voted Dragons Player of the Year last season)

And if Gatland valued Smith above Hewitt and Williams, surely he would have called him in instead as a training member? Just saying.

Oh, and while I'm picking fights, it was Robin McBride who rated Spratt and capped him, not Gatland, who was with the Lions. So there.

I bet Henson'll come crawling back to the Ospreys. And losing Hook and Byrne, I'd love to see his tanned little face again on the Liberty pitch.

Hensons ban has been lifted - maybe he'll stick at Toulon after all?

I think it'll come down to whether Gatland includes him in his WC squad/warmup squad or not - if he doesn't I think they'll keep him during the WC with them deciding after whether to keep him, if not then they'll ship him on

Well Henson is lucky but you think there was enough evidence to show that Henson did not start the scrap with Henjak. Good news all round, probably would be with Toulon come end of the season mind.

Henson is very good player,i am the big fan of him.I wanna see him play for our nation after recovering the injury.

however good a player henson is or may have being i still think hes an arrogant twat

Not much of a surprise, Toulon where only going to offer him a deal if he was not going to the WC. Obviously they know something we don't.

Hard luck Gavlar.
I'm sure the Ospreys would welcome him back.
Scarlets could do with a new centre. Henson/Davies would be quite a pairing.
