Its about as Woke as Superman should be. But people complaining about him being woke is the same people complaining Star Trek is. They either missed the point in the past or are saying it for clicks. With Piers its definitely the latter.

I really enjoyed it, the kid say two seats away from me was a little too engaged but at least he was engaged with the film (why he was up at 20:30 on a Sunday is a little lost on me).

I think most people's mileage will be on how much you enjoy James Gunn's oeuvre.
Yeah, safe to say where there's a buck to be made in holding an opinion Morgan will be there shouting from the rooftops.

I agree. I also love how Star Trek was unique in the sense it was a sci fi show that actually offered up a positive outlook on humanities future.
I think Strange New Worlds is best of the new shows (by some margin) but it really really get this.

One epsisode is "Ad astra per aspera" which roughly translates to "to the stars through difficulties". The thesis of the episode states starfleet and the federation are not perfect. But the importance is that it strives to be better. Which is an extremely common theme is.many of the best episodes throughout the shows and what draws me to it.

Can you imagine having Nigel Fararges descendant in Star Trek saying how we need to leave the federation as Earth isn’t a sovereign planet anymore. It will happen.

Piers Morgan says it's woke. Did you find it woke? Did superman talk about Race realism and defund the police?
Didn't find it woke, just a bit too busy. It's a Gunn movie and if you enjoyed Guardians of the galaxy (I haven't seen it) then I am sure you'll enjoy it.

There were some other issues but won't spoil it for those who have yet to see it.

My biggest issue with a superman was too much Krypto

Would’ve rather more lex than Krypto.

Gunn just manages to balance out all the different personalities, but idk I feel it could’ve been a lot better with a bit more focus

Overall 7/10, a step in the right direction for the new DCU BUT potentially too big a step.

Not sure in the woke stuff, superman is about being idealistic. he ain’t Batman.

Christopher Reeve's first Superman is still the best IMO.
This is slightly fair I dont think you can give anywhere near as complete a performance as Clark/Superman without in some way just copying what Reeve did.

The resolution to the plot remains crap though as does the Lois and Clark flying sequence. Which is a shame because the rest is amazing.

Incidentally the documentary on Reeve Super/Man is brilliant. His son Will plays a reported as a cameo in the new film. And if Will doesn't make you have you dust in your eyes in the documentary you're a stronger man than I (not hard).

I have yet to see the uncut Richard Donner’s Superman 2. I suppose I just preferred the tone of the first “original” Superman and yes Reeve was the superman I knew growing up so I am biased.

I can see the direction Gunn is taking this Superman and having to appeal to a new audience. It’s not my cup of tea though. Although I didn’t mind it, I just didn’t love it.

Honestly, Superman is the hero I care about the least. No matter how you write it you always have the issue of how someone fights him on equal terms and it will always feel contrived and forced. Justice League was the worst, they all struggle until Superman turns up and then he wins easily.

Superman and Spiderman were my favourites growing up.

I suppose with Superman his only weakness is Krytonite and that really narrows the whole
How he can be defeated. Hence why they concentrate on the whole back story, universe in the JL and Gunn's take to diversify his story.

Whereas Spider-Man was the geeky kid at school who couldn’t get the girl. Superheros need to relateable with weaknesses. Superman is an alien.

There still isn’t a proper Superman video game.

Went to see "Friendship" at the cinema

Saw it described as a 90min I Think You Should Leave Sketch, and that's a perfect description really

If you like Tim Robinson you'll like it, and I love Tim Robinson
