blockedFinally saw Endgame.
Thought it was awful. First 20 mins were ok, but then it it just kept going downhill.
Like the iphone of movies, where it's hyped up beyond belief, but in actuality is pretty sh*t.
It's great I was watching a bit the other day and Part II I think is even better. It's still the ultimate portrayal of a good man going evil and how each step he takes seams justified at the time until you realise quite how far he's gone.
Tis why Breaking Bad is overrated
Love the Godfather I and II but Goodfellas is the best mafia film, and just the best film in general, in my opinion. I think I've watched it at least once a year for about 8 years at this stage.

Will have to watch Goodfellas again after GF2 which I am following on from GF1. For me it was Micro-Mafia story i.e. the street level, whereas the GF1 and GF2 could be described as the Macro level mafia level. Both different takes on the Mafia genre, but all great. Whereas the Godfather films (not number 3) won the Best picture oscars, Goodfellas lost out to Dances with Wolves . Better put that down to one of Oscar's more bizarre decisions or that they really didn't like Scorsese. I mean he eventually won for the Departed and that is inferior to Goodfellas and just a remake of Infernal Affairs, which was much better imo.
Oof, maddon' ...
Great, great film, but up there with the first 2 Godfathers...? Not for me. It doesn't explore character and motivation and morality in the same way. Slick, excellently made, excellently written, but not as deep
(Translation for AlphaBro: Goodfellas is ROG; GF is Sexton)
Well put.
My other favourite Mafia film is Donnie Brasco. "What's a fugazi?" "Your diamond is a ******* fugazi". Love it.
But again - NOTHING approaches Sopranos for me, anyone who disagrees I'll make him an offer he can't refuse
Soprano's is overrated or probably more true I got fed up. Tony Soprano has no growth in the slightest as a character throughout the show it's like watching The Godfather but it's about Sonny.
Oooooohhhhhh! You're lucky you're Bath my friend or you and me would have a problem.Soprano's is overrated or probably more true I got fed up. Tony Soprano has no growth in the slightest as a character throughout the show it's like watching The Godfather but it's about Sonny.
Haha, I was going for an intentional reference to the show with that one, I like yours very much too though!FIFY.
Yeah what good mafia stories do is play on that internal conflict between disgust at how they act and admiration for the romanticised view of "Men of Honour" - an idea which any cursory reading on Italian and Italian-American organised crime will show you has always been a myth! But the myth pervades and makes the idea fascinating to us ordinary citizensIt's funny how much admiration there is for the Mafia and gang culture through TV and film. As Everytime Ref says above essentially they are Psychopaths, but tap into things qualities like Respect, Loyalty And family. They get the money, power, the women and don't play by the rules. Heck what is their not to secretly admire? But few of us would dream of getting involved because of the ultimate consequences involved.
