The impact a Rugby World Cup has on society

Personally the RWC didn't have much of a impact on me and my household. As we don't exactly watch Rugby, an because for a week and a half of the competition I was in hospital. On a national scale i believe that the RWC was a positive for certain companies such as sky sport that would have got large economic bonus and maybe would have even got new users for long term purposes.

During the Rugby World Cup in 2011 I was on the All Blacks bandwagon, because I live in New Zealand. As our number one sport in this country it was obvious that it was important that we won and since 1987 we had failed to retain the world cup, but this time it was in our backyard with the whole nation behind 15 men in black jerseys (and Stephen Donald). As I am a football player I did not watch every single game of the world cup but rugby is a spectator sport and is quite entertaining in the finals stages. In the semi final when we beat Australia was a crowning moment, they were off back over the Tasman for a shrimp on the bbq... It created the buzz throughout the country that 2011 was the year that the All Blacks would go the whole way, and they did just that beating the French 8-7 in the final, it was destiny as the last time we won it was 87'.. Finally after 24 years of waiting the arguably the best rugby team ever had retained the ***le.

So four people decided to all make their first posts on the forum in this thread all from within 10 minutes of one another?

Edit: Make that 5......

Make that 6......

For me the rugby world cup brought a lot to New Zealand. Living in New Zealand at the time it was a good experience of the other cultures interacting with one another. Although I am a football player I enjoyed the environment that the RWC2011 brought to NZ! It brought a competitive to the community. Having the RWC2011 in NZ gave us a big advantage with the community behind us!!!!! The RWC2011 effected all of the school students with the change in the length of each. 12 weeks in term 1 and 2,9 weeks in term 3 and 7 weeks in term 4

I will always remember the 2011 RWC because of the quarter final. Not really the match itself, but the fact I went to the pub, on a Sunday morning 6 AM, and when I got there, the place was packed! Drinking Guinness with a dozen other guys on Sunday morning. Really memorable.

that indirectly impacts on the economy of nz because you put money into nz... good job

that is a very good point on how society was affected. cheers

Because of the RWC New Zealand received publicity from around the globe, this forum shows that, as people from different places and countries are responding.

Not really, he spent money on Irish beer in a Dutch pub. Besides spending money on entertainment dosen't truly help an economy in a grand sense either, capital investments in increasing productivity/technology generally do a much better job of this.

I have encouraged some of my students to join the forum and post and they are all online now - hope they have some positive input. Thanks!

good how you noticed that, and that is because this is an exercise we are doing in a pe class in nz for an assignment of the impacts of the rwc so any positive feedback given is appreciated

The rwc effected me positively in bringing me close together
with distant friends and family. But having the opportunity to go places like Wellington, Tauranga ect to see the rwc games I was also able to reconnect with people. If it wasn't for the rwc I probably wouldn't of been able see these people. Also by spending time with people at the games it has now built stronger bonds between us all thanks to the rugby World Cup :)

Oh OK, I had NEVER seen anything like this in my three years at the forum even when HB made some big announcements regarding their video game a few years back....I was almost convinced it was someone setting up multiple accounts/possibly spamming.

Sorry for bringing this up...but we did have a problem with spammers last year that was really starting to effect the forum. Hope you guys enjoy your time around the threads.

Fair enough, we just wanted to share our thoughts on this matter, and help our teacher find the required information!

although i wasn't living in nz at the time, i have always been a lover of rugby and came here to nz for a 2 week holiday to watch some games so even though im not from here i was able to have an impact on society economically...

During the rugby world cup my family were strongly affected due to the high number of All Blacks memorbelia sold in New Zealand. For a New Zealander it was normally compulsory to be waving an All Blacks flag or wearing the iconic jersey during the time of the RWC anywhere you were. It pretty much became a trend for people to be wearing these gears een for those who didnt even follow rugby on a normal basis. It was more of a buzz that we won aswell!

Ha - no probs little guy, good to get the students involved I think - they have learnt a couple of things already (although a couple of them could do with learning a bit of web-etiquette!), it's great to be able to get other points of view - especially from across the globe!! Thanks for joining in!Photo on 05-08-2013 at 13.03 #3.jpg

I have to agree with Rugger's sentiments on what it did for Canadian rugby...it really did vault it back into the public sphere as the game had really struglled here since 2003(maybe even since 1995). Now most of the tests are getting televised and better venues are starting to be made available for Test matches. I think Canadians will be really looking forward to the 2015 RWC, especially playing some European countries we have strong links to in our pool. (If we beat the States over the next three weeks.)

Edit: On a personal note I think it was great experience for all amateur athletes in Canada since the majoirty of our team was part time or amateur players. When we were able to get results on fully professional teams like Tonga and Japan(and challenge France for 60 minutes). It showed everyone that professionalism is as much an attitude as an occupation. Our 7's teams, Age Grade sides and especially women's teams have had great results since 2011.

They've been really good actually, better than many a member we've had come across our bows over the years....may want to steer them clear of yoe though.

It is pretty amazing, here in Canada of course it's essentially opposite land to yourselves....It's 9:15 p.m. I'm watching an evening soccer game on TV...and schools won't be running again for another month LOL.

Its a new, different way of teaching. Yeah, ignore yoe for your sanity.

For me the RWC, any RWC is a special time for rugby fans. It makes the dedictaed more dedicated (hence us lot in SixNationsLand getting up at stupid o clock to watch a random pool game) and turns the casual fans into dedicated fans.

St Mary's kids won't like the new crew, time for a face off!
Welcome to TRF all, should be extra credit to whomever can get the most rep ;)
