Hard to believe but marshall has been worse than ever in the commentary booth. He was going on about the video ref not being able to rule on someone being in touch before the line.. Bizarre stuff.

'canes have scored some great tries so far.
Blues just haven't looked up to it, especially Nonu who's made a fair few errors/made the wrong decisions.
Referee has had a solid game as well.

I feel I've missed something by turning off a few mins before the end....?
The effort was definitely there. The skill level not soo much.
As someone that has (especially after last week) supported Pat Lam, i've lost faith.
Best we can hope for is too upset some of the teams ahead of us. (yep that's almost every team)

The Hurricanes scored a try right at the end off a very average Blues error. Worth watching just for a laugh.
I kinda see where they're going wit this. Basically, their first point, and what they're saying is that last year, people were asking for the heads of Mark Hammett and Jamie Joseph. Yet they kept them on and look at it now.
To some degree, I agree with this. Sometimes, we as fans think we know better. However, the difference in those three coaches is that Lam has had a mediocre Blues side for years now. And they've always had the talent.
He really just couldn't do much with it.
Secondly, Tew's reasoning was that in a conference system, and in a conference like NZ, a team will inevitably be suffering. To this, I completely disagree with. There is no excuse for a team to play this bad. They may lose the games, but their performances have been lacking.
And you can't blame a competitive division for that.
Dunno.
Anyone would do at this stage. Would at least introduce new ideas etc.

I too want a Hurricanes thrashing. I want Barrett to score 3 tries, Vito to score 6, Jane to score 4, and the rest of the team to score 2 each. Just to show the Blues that they need a new coach.
In all seriousness though, he's had a good core group of players for a while now, and even more so this year. If these same players can perform at a higher level, with a different coach, what does that say about Lam?

Nothing to do with injuries really. Maybe a little. But franchises all over the world have won, and nearly won championships, with stars on the sidelines.
Just ask the Patriots, the Ravens, the Steelers, the Giants, the Packers of 2010 (their ENTIE teamw as pretty much injured save for Rodgers), the LA Lakers, the Yankees etc All these teams can continue to perform regardless of injuries.
And these are leagues with even more PARITY (read: a constant high level of competition, and VERY little 'gimme' teams like the Lions and Rebels - except Major League Baseball and the Bobcats of the NBA) than Super Rugby.

I think Tew's excuse is justified but not for the Blues. Of the five New Zealand teams one of them is probably always going to finish in the bottom 5 whether we have a competitive conference or not. One team always has to be the worst and the way the media works they will always get on the backs of the team which is the worst. However, the Blues shouldn't be the worst NZ team. That excuse would work if the Hurricanes were using it but with the Blues team on paper then there is no way they should be struggling the way they are. Lam has had his fair share of bad luck with the injuries and some close losses but the way the Blues have been playing has just been shocking. Lam hasn't been able to put any structure or discipline into the team.
He should see out the season, but then he has to go.

It's not just that the Blues are losing - it's that they're playing so poorly, and losing against every team.
Went to this game. As much as I love watching the Canes score great tries, the last try of the game actually kinda saddened me (and I think quite a lot of the other spectators). It actually seemed like the Blues just straight gave up.
Fell asleep midway through the first half.
The result was not unexpected.
Missed Eaton's try, a classic? Sort of related: Anyone think Eaton could be in the AB squad? Hit good form and plenty of experience. I don't rate Williams, but could see Brodie Retallick in and possibly one of the Highlanders locks.

I think if the AB selectors decide Ali Williams is out and Boric is still injured then Eaton could/should be in the mix. Partly because I dont know how they can select any Highlanders lock because Adam Thomson takes all the lineout ball for the team...

If this year is anything to go on - then Ali should be out. He's definitely improved since the last Blues game I went too (vs Chiefs).
As much as he's played better, I think they should rest Nonu, he's played most of the WC, played some games in Japan, had a shortened break and is expected to play anywhere near his peak? Not going to happen.
Charlie should have a sniff at an All Black jersey this year. He's been rock solid in the scrum. His loose stuff is good but messy. (loose carries etc)

I think Andre Taylor has a problem with being unable to score tries that aren't spectacular

I was at the game last night. Some brilliant tries by the Canes, especially Taylor's try (Jane's try really).
Perenara was at his best, showing Weepu how it's done and Barrett progressed throughout the game and ended up having a great game. The Blues were shocking however. We absolutely gave it to the Blues in the 2nd.
Back in playoff contention. If we can win against the Highlanders (who are coming back from SA) then we'll definitely be back in play off contention.
you really have to admire the way the canes switch onto attack when they win a turnover. it's obviously a big part of their gameplan and I don't think I've seen a team that does it so well.
I'm sure Andre Taylor sits at the back constantly waiting for the mistake or turnover then he's in the game like a flash. The forwards are onto it as well they know as soon as they get possession in broken play they need to get the ball wide, but usally all they need to do is hand the ball off to a man thats close waiting to start the counter attack.
They have a set play attack as well which is really hinged around Barrett. He's got this great ability to get passes away in traffic, Look at that Savea try he drew three defenders and passed to a massive gap on the left hand side. Brilliant..

I comment on his defense all the time, I've said many times I think the only reason he wont make the AB's this year is his because of the problems he has in that area. If he could tackle like Tom Taylor he'd be a shoe in.
I think it's something he can sort out in time. He's only what 21? First season as a regular in super rugby. His technique will improve, no doubt he's going to get a lot of practice....

I tihnk Beauden Barrett has a higher ceiling than Tom Taylor does.
Right now, Tom Taylor is a mroe [plished player than Barrett. But I think Barett has more potential.
To put it this way in madden terms (excuse me non-Madden gamers
); Taylor would be rated an 82 overall with a 'B' potential (not being rated or better than 89 overall) while Barrett would be more like a 75 overall with 'A' potential of reaching 99.(It makes sense in my head!
