The Sharks are playing their 2nd of 3 highveld matches in a row. After playing the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein, they travel up North to Johannesburg. The Lions wait for them and hope to beat the Natal side for the first time since seperating the Cheetahs from the Cats. The Sharks hope to win and will be praying for a Highlanders win in Sydney or a Bulls loss in Cape Town. If one of the 2 loses and the Sharks win, they are certain of being in the play offs before travelling to Pretoria for their 3rd match away from home in 3 weeks.

2 months ago the Lions travelled to the coast to get a beat-down from the Sharks (27-3) with 4 tries by the Banana Boys and the Transvaal side only scoring a penalty through Elton Jantjies. As mentioned before, the Lions have not managed to beat the Sharks in Super Rugby since 1997 when they won 42-8. Since 1998, when they played as the Cats, they won twice against the Lions. In 2000 and 2001 the Sharks fell short. The last year before seperating from the Cheetahs the 2 teams played to a 20-20 draw.

We should change the V-Bookie at the top "When will Butch James get carded for a high tackle: 1-5mins, 5-10mins" etc. :p

Will be interesting to see how he goes, is this his first game back in SA?

Yes. He joined the Lions on tour in Canberra, then they travelled to Dunedin and Wellington and now they are back in SA. Interesting to see how James will do.

Not bad, but considering he plays for the Sharks that doesn't say much. Bath have done well getting rid of ***** James and Puke Watson

Ai! Lions of course. I was thinking back to the days he played for the Sharks. Stupid!

What I do like, is no Alberts! With Daniel at blindside, I think we have more pace down the short side and Botes brings the experience in the backrow. Seeing Mostert get another chance is also nice but I am a bit worried with McLeod once again in the starting XV. I hope Michalak will come on quickly. It's quite sad to see that Michalak only gets a chance from the bench. The bench with Coetzee and Herbst is also quite cool. Young players getting a chance!

Last match of Deysel's suspension as well.
Glad it was these two and not Bulls or Waratahs.

Never seen Daniel play blindside. I actually think he does a good job at 8 (better than Alberts). Last I heard Alberts was facing a late fitness test, and probably has failed.

I still feel crap about my Freudian screw up. More like a Freudian nightmare! James with the Sharks... NOOOO!!!!!!

James Hilgendorf maybe, but not Butch James... At least, I hope not!

Regarding Michalak and McLeod and the latter starting

Let's remind ourselves that this season hasn't been one of his better ones in Frogland
Despite McLeods 'form', I think Plumtree is justified in being a little hesitant in throwing Michalak into the frying pan.

No doubt if the Sharks lose, certain sections of the media will attribute it to the lack of Alberts in the team
And if they win big, we will be told how they are in good stead with the 'big guns' available. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Mon the Banana Boys, Lambie should just run at James, Adi when he comes on as well. They are too short for him to tackle

That might be true, but why not give him a chance against the Lions? We have the Bulls next week so if you don't want to take a risk now, why did we contract him at all? Can it be any worse than McLeod? His constant running with the ball without support is killing our chances sooner or later

Or we give him some time to at learn the names of the players playing around him, reacquaint (sp.) Himself with the Sharks systems (which have changed quite a bit imo since he was last here) and have full confidence in himsel, and from his teamates. Then start him off with hopefully the Sharks being 3 scores ahead in the second half and such

Who knows, without the right preparation it could have proven to be a disaster

In Plum and blind faith we trust B)

We'll see. Does anyone know how long Hoffmann will be out still? I heard Kockott is off to France so that's no option for the people who wanted him to come back.

I heard it was three months when he got injured, might have changed though
