The Sharks are playing their 2nd of 3 highveld matches in a row. After playing the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein, they travel up North to Johannesburg. The Lions wait for them and hope to beat the Natal side for the first time since seperating the Cheetahs from the Cats. The Sharks hope to win and will be praying for a Highlanders win in Sydney or a Bulls loss in Cape Town. If one of the 2 loses and the Sharks win, they are certain of being in the play offs before travelling to Pretoria for their 3rd match away from home in 3 weeks.
2 months ago the Lions travelled to the coast to get a beat-down from the Sharks (27-3) with 4 tries by the Banana Boys and the Transvaal side only scoring a penalty through Elton Jantjies. As mentioned before, the Lions have not managed to beat the Sharks in Super Rugby since 1997 when they won 42-8. Since 1998, when they played as the Cats, they won twice against the Lions. In 2000 and 2001 the Sharks fell short. The last year before seperating from the Cheetahs the 2 teams played to a 20-20 draw.
