With the Steven Shingler debate now put to bed by the IRB, I have 2 questions.

1 Does anyone think that he will be good enough for the Wales squad in the next 3 years?
2 Will he want to play for Wales after agreeing to play for Scotland?
3 Do we want him after him agreeing to play for Scotland? (Being a hooker you should all understand I can not count!)

1. Yes. We have Rhys Priestland and really nobody else at 10. He could also fit in as a 12 in our current style with his size. He could have very easily toured to Japan next summer.
2. Probably. He just wanted a cap as soon as he could. Derwyn Jones is his agent so I really wouldn't be surprised if the donkey suggested it.
3. Not right now. Is he fully committed to Wales in his mind? It is too soon and would look odd bringing him in right now. How long do you carry a grudge in professional rugby?
4. Will Gatland pick him? If he fits the bill and shows application during training, if called up.
5. For the record, I would take him at the Dragons.

I reckon he'll only play for Wales if he moves back to Wales, as I don't think they'll want to cap another foreign based player. Honestly, I don't think the management will care about all this business if he is playing well. We also need more cover at flyhalf and he could be useful to us.

Thing is will he want to, like you said?

I need to watch more games I think, I am not in the know with him. Someone who is nice and versatile between 10 and 12 is always good, wouldn't you agree Hookie. . . . Gavlar?. . . .

I personally see Beck as a better option at 12 in the long run. I really like the way he plays, and whilst he has the size to operate a crash ball attack, he can vary it up. Beck/Davies does seem to be a good potential combination.
Shingler at 10 would be a big (bigger!) backline than right now. Only Davies and Halfpenny would be under 6'3", for the record.

Good bench option, 10, 12, 13, 15.

Apparently the Dragons are after him so who knows.

May Cardiff should have a look too. I think they could do with a good young Welsh centre ;)

#Shingler is a Welshman, Shingler is a Welshman, la la la la oi#

Can't see him getting close to a starting spot, bench of we are short through injuries or whatever but otherwise he should focus on playing for the region and you never know

He must be highly rated by the Welsh coaching staff as they complained as soon as he was called into the Scotland squad, if they didnt think much of his ability they would of not said anything id imagine.

@GarethEWilliams you may want to change the the in your sig to then.

Well, it was the Union that raised the point to the IRB. I don't recall Gatland ever saying anything in regards to Shingler, but I could very well be mistaken.
Anyway, its done. Sorted. Fin.

Or they just didn't want to face him worrying that he puts in the performance of his life!

Not quite, Shingler and the SRU are waiting for a written statement from the IRB and will decide if they wish for it to proceed to the IRB Council or not:

STATEMENT ON STEVEN SHINGLER

Scottish Rugby notes the decision of the IRB Regulations Committee hearing the Steven Shinger eligibility case.

We remain fully supportive of Steven Shingler, a talented young rugby player, who has expressed his sincere and earnest wish to represent Scotland.

We await the full written decision of the IRB Regulations Committee and may comment further on receipt

Interesting that the IRB Regs Panel stated that they have recommended to the IRB Council that the ability for an age grade/ u20 team to be registered as a second team should be abolished.

A decision on what is to be done with the second team registration is due to be made before the IRB Council convene to cconfirm or over-turn the Shingler decision.

Jesus Christ Fenton.
Will Scotland not give up??? Robinson will be gone by then, so who cares.

Maybe England should try for him, or are they just happy with South Sea Islanders? (lights touch papers and legs it)

just let Scotland have him
It's not a simple situation to let them 'have' him. The laws are the laws. It was well publicised after Jarvis, and he should have known better.
He obviously felt allegiance to Wales, having pulled on the jersey for the U20 and the S4C commercial (which really didn't help his cause).
Shingler dun goof'd. I blame Derwyn.

I admire your work Olyy, but I really do not have the motivation for a full response with lovely pictures of Botha, Tuilagi, et al.

For Faletau, he has played all of his regional rugby in Wales, learned the sport in Wales (played a bit at Filton College, but oh well), represented Wales through the grade ages, does that not make him Welsh?
He has lived for two thirds of his life in Wales, and has said he never really considered Tonga home now, from the little time he has spent there.

Aaaaaaanyway. Toby is a Welshman, Toby is a Welshman! ;)

As objectively as possible, what do you think about the WRU lying about following their own (and the IRB's) protocols, and the subsequent fine that should result?
