So what about this French hallion spitting on Peter Stringer...?

I think das's comment on spitting is my view of it. It should never be tolerated in the game and as such deserved a lengthy ban. I fully agree that all the foul play duck pointed out was under-punished, but reducing the punishment for this wasn't the way forward, increasing punishments for dangerous acts is the way forward.

Yes, and YES...and not just because you agreed with me. ;) I think dangerous acts, especially those that are purely spiteful, need harsher punishments. Biting usually comes with a year suspension, but not always, and penalties for eye-gouging - especially that which is obviously intentional - need to be stronger and more consistent, too. Consistency is key. If a player knows he'll be out for 18 months for biting, he will think twice before sinking his teeth into someone's finger or ear. If an eye-gouger knows he'll be out for 9 months, he'll think twice before he digs into someone's socket.

A player needs to know that he will pay a dear price for unacceptable behavior, especially that which intentionally injures another. Of course, rugby league's stink-finger maestro, John Hopoate, only received a 12-week ban for his proctological skills, and from where I sit I would think such a violation should call for a lifetime ban. But that was league, so maybe that played a part in the decision since I'm not sure how the oversight there works.

This is UNNNFAAAIIIR !!!

3 pages of comments about a spitting, but not a word about Kearney who didn't even cited after he dared to place his head between the ball and O'Connell's foot !

Have a look at the Pro 12 thread.

Really?
Your point is valid though. If you knock off one Kearney, just grab another. Kearney's irresponsible head placement could have led to the stubbing of a toe or worse a bruise, hurting O'Connell's Lions chances (although I expect if he's injured they just won't tour. Not really worth it)

Thanks Big Ginger
I made a request with O'Connel in the search window, and nothing found...

Nevertheless it's funny to see that a specific topic is opened (and more generaly each time a French player is involved in a dirty/irregular action) but no one estimated that an action that could have send a player to heaven or led him in a wheelchair for the rest of his life deserves such an attention.
Not only the behaviour of the player (who is not on his trial run) is blameworthy , but the "protection" from the Irish Union (or Federation) he got is just a good carte blanche for such behaviour (what Joe Schmidt perfectly said).

To come back on the spitting, stupid and disgusting act that is more expected from a football player than a Rugbyman. Ban weeks will give him time to cogitate about the sport he chose...

The Collins dictionary says

"a disreputable or useless lout"

I like that description.
