So Eddie does the job in 3 months that Lancaster couldn't manage in 4 years.

Yeah he's got a nucleus of the same squad but it really feels like we've on from the world cup.

Jones doesn't have his head up his arse for starters.

But seriously, Jones is a fantastic coach and England will develop thoroughly under him in the next few years. I'm really looking forward to seeing England playing in the end of the year tours.

Jones makes England almost likable as well :D

Well, Eddie Jones did call Lancaster a rookie coach. That should say everything really.

Let's not get carried away lads!

Winning the 6n is good and a grand slam will be good too but they are only the best of a very average lot?

Before we start eulogising Jones, let us see how they fair against real rugby teams! When they start consistently winning, or even holding their own, against the four SH teams, I will start applauding him.......

We beat Wales therefore we'd beat NZ therefore we're the best team in the world.
It's simple maths, people.

It's a fair point.

Possible Lancaster would have done it this year given the level of competition. Then again, possible he wouldn't have. He should have done it at least once in four years.

Still, this is the beginning of the process. Can't complain about a championship to begin with, but if it's the only one he wins, he won't have done his job. I'm guardedly optimistic he'll win more but that remains to be seen.

Looking forwards to next week.

Whilst I am in complete agreement with the decision to replace Lancaster with Jones, in my view it is overwhelmingly likely that England would have won the championship this year anyway had they stick with Lancaster.

Next year will tell us much more when we have to travel to Wales and Ireland.

I originally felt this, as Lancaster managed four wins every year, but one thing that sticks out when I consider the two teams is the number of Lancaster's favourites/bizarre selections who have been quietly removed. That is, the players who we all consistently raged against and scratched our heads each time they took an EPS place.

I wouldn't be shocked if Lancaster had gone into this Six Nations with Wood, Barritt, Burrell, Clark, Twelvetrees, and Goode still in the XV or XXIII. I know Goode lasted until this weekend, but given how little game time he's had I can't help but feel Jones was waiting for someone else to come along and replace him.

Of the nucleus that remained, they mainly seem to be playing better. And those that aren't, like Ford, have been given the chance to play through the bad patches. Lancaster would have either not picked Ford and Joseph or dropped them after the Scotland game.

Finally, there seems to be a clear direction/development plan and room for improvement, which I felt Lancaster lost around the autumn of 2014. So even if it's been a poor year for the Six Nations, we should at least be able to improve with the other teams as time goes on. Maybe even outstrip them as Itoje, Clifford, Brookes, Ewers, and Slade are slowly fed in over the next 12 months.

We're heading in the right direction with lots of very promising players at the start of their careers.

But the difference from a few months ago is almost totally in the leadership. And don't underestimate Hartley's role in all this; I for one am very pleased for him.

Not sure about that. I think theres been a change behind the scenes that Lancaster didnt have, I also doubt he'd have picked players like Itoje. You would have been better , hard not to be I suppose but not enough to have won it.

A big summer ahead to properly guage

Sounds like Gats cheekily angling for the AB's job once Shagg hangs the boots up.

Fair post, but after the dire performances under Lancaster and the rejuvenated performances under Jones, it's fair for you lads to be a little excited and you know it's not just a flash in the pan with Jones, I expect England to win the 6N for the next 3 - 4 years and more "grand slams" to come.

Wooooo! Let's have none of this "you lads"..........even if I lived in England, which I do not yet, I will still be Manx!!

Woah nelly are you sure you not arrogant enough to be English?

I don't particularly think we're amazing at the moment but it feels good to actually win it for once after 4 years of bitter disappointment especially as we've been so damn close every time.

No, but I'm looking at the rest of the teams in the 6 Nations and their resources don't compare and Jones is really one of the best coaches the game has seen. Ireland have lost a talisman by their standards of McCaws stature and don't have nearly the depth or resources to appropriately replace him any time soon.

Not so sure about that. Lancaster was talking up Itoje as a WC bolter in 2012 and came close to making good on that; very possible he'd have put Itoje in the 23 next tournament down the line. An unwillingness to back players he saw as great was never Lancaster's problem.

In fact, part of me thinks that given his superior knowledge of England's player base, he might have pushed the boat far more experimentally than Jones. We'll never know I guess.

Come to think of it... Jones is far from the first coach to come into a good collection of internationals, do things a little different, and get the result the last coach couldn't. Not all of the coaches who did that then went on to success, particularly when it came to time to put their own stamp on things. Time will tell. I still remain guarded about my optimism.

Crapspray - Clark was never part of Lancaster's 23.
