Scotland vs Italy, 09/02/13

^ yeh, really really shhitty stuff from Italy, and yeh Orquera unremarkable once again...
Maybe in a few years/decades, when Italy becomes a team that is seriously, seriously respected around the globe; they can become France no. 2, as in, the inconsistent squad no. 2. They seem to be like us in inconsistency. Our type of inconsistency.
Coz Wales is crazy inconsistent too, but it's not within a week or wtvr like us...

Some congratulations have to go to Scotland for not letting Italy play the way they wanted to. Though they had all the possession they couldn't dominate the contact area and that's where the game was won. Scotland didn't let themselves get bullied and from there it was a case of sitting back and letting their Backs capitalize on Italian mistakes.

For once we have the exciting kind of runners to finish off those errors and keep the scoreboard ticking. Hogg is a tremendous player

Still expecting an Irish victory in 2 weeks time. Keeping my fingers crossed for some overconfidence from the men in green though.

Scotland played well. I was in the pub watching it, so didn't really see the stats. But I'd be surprised if they shown a lot of Scottish errors. But of course, it has to be Italy played poor, not Scotland played well.

Second, italy didn't show anything today and Scotland benefited from their wickness. Well done Scotland

Found a Scottish bar in Rome to watch this and the Italian channel 3(?) News were in therre and interviewed me three pitchers in.
No idea what I said but I'm pretty sire I slagged off football the whole thing

man, Italy must be looking back at their victory in Rome last week by now after the Wales game in Paris and at France and saying...."man, is THAT the team we beat last week ?!....not such a big deal !!"
Then again, the way they played today even we could have beaten them

"And here we have an typical English Rugby fan"

Well done Olyy, hope you did your bit for Anglo-Italian relations!

So 21 tries in the tournaments so far... And 6 of them from Scotland. Who would have thought it!!! Great tournament so far!

No Scotland didn't play well. Two of their tries were against the run of play and they made lots of mistakes. I thought Laidlow was awful and he got man of the match! His skill level is fine, it's his bloody kicking - Scotland have decent possession, quick ball in the oppositions half and he's doing these terrible box kicks that go straight down the throat of the oppositions back 3 who catch it cleanly and counter attack. It's like he's been transported from the 1980s when these sort of tactics worked. And the frustrating thing, it never seemed to come off yet he persisted in doing it! And the stats - Italy had 72% possession. You might be able to win games against poor opposition with only 28% possession, but against decent teams you're going to lose badly. Scottish supporters are delusional if they think Scotland can play like this against France or Ireland and still win. Why kick the ball away, especially when you've had such little ball. It's really mystifying. I liked the style in which Italy played, a frenetic pace, lots of quick ball, very flat passes and off loads, but they don't have the skill level to maintain that type of game play for more than 2 or 3 phases. I don't want to be too down on Scotland, I'm happy for their win, they deserve it and I really hope they go on to beat Wales & Ireland, but they need to be realistic. The game plan they have at the moment ain't gonna work against good teams. They now have a decent backline, Hogg has a lot of gas and should be on the plane to Straya, Scott played well and Maitland was good. They have good backs so use them!

yoe91 you aint by any chance English and not French you really have a large dislike for Scotland, seeing that the best and biggest Rugby teams in club are French, Irish, Welsh or English and that a lack of funding and interest in Scotland is the reason for what you call the poorest team in the 6 nation. I think we are doing well in comparison too France.

The English don't hate the Scots.
They're not important enough for us to have an opinion on :p

Same could be said of all the Celts. The hate works one way, only apathy heads outwards.

the english do have a dislike just like everyone has a dislike somehow. But so much negative criticism for a Scottish team that still does well to stand in the top 15 of IRB Rankings when our funding is dire and lack of interest in our country for the game also. France on the otherhand great club teams, not so good internationally but we don't hear how bad they are. Again don't pass the blame it was just an example based on rivalry. Yeah Celtics and Anglos can't be just as bad as each other just read the comments on BBC Answers. I was just mentioning how yoe91 on every post seem to throw in a negative response instead of saying Scotland did ok yesterday. That saying England are playing fantastic. Farrell untouchable with kicks, and solid at the back. If only Scotland could play like that....

"you aint by any chance English": nope...
"you really have a large dislike for Scotland": not particularly, no.
"I think we are doing well in comparison too France": I think that shows you just how bad France is doing !! :p

Scotland played well. I agree that they do need to cut down on kicking. If they are outside of the 22, they should be running it.

The back three are great. Scott is really starting to come into his own.

That being said though, Scotland was great at the kicking game, they use there fast backs to chase and then forced the runner into our solid Forwards. We gained position and eventually profited from it.

The issue is that better teams with all of that possession will eventually beat our defense. But now that Sexton is out... Ireland game can't come fast enough. Scotland for Six Nations Crown!!!!
