Scotland v Wales

I really don't want to take anything away from the Welsh, it was a very good defensive effort. But damn, Scotland looked like it was 2/3 years ago.

I'm really starting to get worried about our number 10 issue, so much so that I'm thinking put Jackson in. Ready or not how much worse could it be?
Wales were desperate and chucked Hook in, maybe Scotland should do similar. Jackson has been talked up from a young age as a player with a great deal of potential, why not give him a chance now and try to build things around him? If he messes up, so what? He'll learn and get better because of it. I certainly see it as a better option than persisting with that useless convict.

Agree completely, madness that Jackson wasn't used
He's 10x the player Parks is, and really, what did they have to lose? They never looked like beating Wales yesterday, might as well have used the chance to give Jackson more international experience (and you never know, he might have actually inspired Scotland to be halfdecent)

Wasn't it only less then six months ago that that ferret-faced moron John Beatie was calling Dan Parks the greatest fly half in the world?

If you can find me that link I'll do questionable and unspeakable sexual acts upon you.

What the hell has happened to Euan Murray? It wasn't long ago that he was being hailed as one of the best tightheads in the world. He got absolutely mullered in the scrum by Paul James yesterday, and didn't fare well against France last week. He used to be a great scrummaging tighthead, that took him on a Lions tour only 16ish months ago. I'm not surprised Northampton didn't renew his contract if he's playing like this.

Back to the game. I'm glad that people aren't going over the top with this win. I think most Welsh supporters realise that the performance still wasn't to the level required, and a combination of great defense and Scotland being rubbish won us that game. Gatland is correct that we actually played better against England. Hopefully the win will be the monkey off their backs and they can play with a little more confidence and accuracy from now on.

Main positives were:

- Great defense, led by Warburton and Lydiate.
- Backrow looked great individually and as a unit (untill Thomas came on anyway).
- Our defense of the rolling maul was excellent. I really rate Mitchell and Bradley in this aspect of play.
- Took our chances. We only really had two, and scored both.
- Slowly developing some depth in the front row.

He couldn't het a look in after the broken leg with the Lions due to Mujati becoming seemingly amazing overnight and his decision to not play on Sundays. When you're not getting game time you ain't going to be good enough. He was released because he wanted to go elsewhere and get some games - Newcastle were perfect as they only play on Fridays. Being as their conditioning coaches don't have a clue however, now he's at Newcastle expect him to only get worse.

this game was utter boring shite 2 hours of my life that can never be taken back

I was really ****** off when Lydiate was subbed on 53 minutes, and you could see he was gutted too. I thought he was excellent again, and I'm really excited about the prospect of our two young flankers - they are only going to get better and could easily be Welsh stalwarts for the next 10 years. Cracking.

And if you were to sub him sub him for Turnbull and not JT!!!!

I too am really excited about our young flankers. Lydiate and Warburton have been excellent in every game they've played this season for Wales. They both stood up well during the Autumn, and again in the first two 6 nations games. Also excited to see more of Turnbull on the international stage. When he came on yesterday, I thought he continued the workrate and physicallity that Lydiate was showing, so looks like we have three young flankers who are all capable of playing either openside or blindside (though I'd say Lydiate is an out and out blindside).

Jon Thomas is still a waste of space imo. He added nothing when he came on, and that's poor considering his experience. I'd prefer Powell on the bench tbh, at least he can offer some kind of impact. So I'd personally go for Turnbull and Powell (when fit) on the bench, with Ryan Jones covering second row.

The Welsh back row were beasts. The number of times Scotland would lose metres by just being totally dominated. Half the tackles looked like a mugging.

Tipuric will be involved in the set-up before too long as well hopefully. All of a sudden we've got too many good back-rowers to fit in our team!

Well...enough to look good against Scotland.

Definitely agree with that. Just hope that he gets more game-time for the O's, it would be a waste of a talent for him to be bench/semi pro all the time.

Was very surprised that Lydiate was subbed, the back-row was great, so it was a major shock to see him come off. That Back-row certainly looks settled with Ryan at 8, so I look forward to seeing them play together in the coming games. Italy in Rome is not gonna be a push over. I personally think it could be a close one, seeing as they play very well at home. Bring it on :D

So the game was won in the first 20 minutes, after that it - as a welsh supporter - i gave up on waiting for a great attacking display as we had seen in the first 20. I had to concede that our defence was superb, but also scotland's attack was impotent.
If Wales went down to 13 men against any of the other nations that currently sit higher than them in the world rankings, we would have conceded a shed full of points.

Discipline is something we are always lacking. Byrne was really clumsy with his tackle, no need to go that high and Bradley didn't need to kill the ball the way he did to get a yellow card. Our defence was strong enough, yes, they were threatening, but he should have shown confidence in the other boys to hold their defensive line.
Yellow cards are sometimes necessary (when england killed the ball against wales last week, it almost certainly stopped a try) but Wales had two unnecessary yellow cards yesterday. I'm not gonna bother going into scotland's should be yellow card, but byrne showed precisely why you should always raise your boot (or knee) when going up for the ball. The ref may not have punished Southwell, but Bynre did.

Happy with the win, and defensive performance. Let's hope we can take this further against Italy now.

Gatland talks to much before a game = defeat. He keeps schtum = we win

Didn't see the game but certainly no mean feat going to Murrayfield and winning so comfortably.

Not acceptable having 13 men.

Would just like to point out Post 6 and 14, can Little guy and Hiz please retract their comments. After Saturday the best thing the SRU can spend money on is sending Parks on a one way ticket back to Oz.

The performance of Parks coupled with De Luca and Walker resulted in the ball being either knocked on, turned over or kicked into nowhere.

As said before let Jackson start with David Blair on the bench and give both time at international level before the WC or we are going to get walked all over and become a bigger joke than we already are. We aren't going to get anything out of the 6 nations other than the wooden spoon so why not bring some of the younger players up and see how they cope, we might get a suprise.
