Scotland v New Zealand

Southern Hemisphere odds are weird. Scotland 9/1, NZ 1/25 (!!!) and the draw at 40/1

NZ are obviously taking this game very seriously by starting with McCaw and Carter. This was the perfect opportunity to rest them and to test those next in line come WC 2011. My money would be NZ but an early injury to Carter and this game could get interesting with some of the changes made!

Scotland are on the up, would be great to see an upset.

I think Scotland have earned a little more respect over the last year to two years and I think it's great for International Rugby in general. They still have had some bad results, but there's enough there obviously that they are capable of pulling off some big wins and the All Blacks seem to have acknowledged that.

Managed to get a ticket at the last minute for this :D

We have had a couple of good wins lately against Australia, Argentina and Ireland so dont see why we cant give the all blacks a game. We seem to have improved our line-outs in the past couple of games so that is definately an advantage.

Hopefully Jackson gets some gametime as he has been superb for Glasgow.

Holy sh*t! That is amazing! I simply don't believe it, that's perhaps the saddest example of a coach's ability to inspire.

I'd say something like this.

"You guys need to take a moment to remember that every day is different in sport. To prove that, we only have to look back to our result against Australia last Autumn tours. These games happen and we are every bit capable of fighting our way into this game. The All Blacks are the toughest team we'll face for some time sure, but we can push them if every single one of you does your job. That's a team, a bunch of components working together like a machine.

If we come off that field at half time having crossed their chalk once and are within 7-10, we'll know that we can do it again. It's about real pressure applied for 80 mins, and seizing upon the mistakes that come from that pressure. They'll be putting it on us, let's put it on them. Let's do our all to not give them an inch and see what happens.

If we all do all that and keep our focus on that for 80 solid mins, we can achieve something today. Maybe even the result we want, but even if not we can get a different result too, letting them know that they've been in the toughest game they've had against Scotland for a hell of a long time. Let's not let reputations scare us, reputations rise and fall, it's our job to make ours rise and theirs fall as much as we can.

That might all sound like a bunch of cliches or a re-arranging of something you've heard before, but these things come about because their true, and can be made realities, and often are in the world of sport. They're called 'upsets'.

You all know your jobs, you just have to do them as crisply and smoothly as you have ever done them. That's possible, now go out there hold your heads up and remind them that they're at our home ground today".

That's the best I could come up with in 5 mins, what the hell has happened to Scotland's coach?

I thought it was a joke article... What with that last line and all.

When I did my initial reply to the article above I had only read just over half the article and was so shocked by what I read that I immediately gave my view on the situation.

Then when I went back and read the whole article, it read like a pi*s-take. Seriously, a captain would be stripped of his role and so should the coach. It has to be a farce. :)

Wow. I'm speechles (if it's not a joke article).

I know, right? This is amazing.

Seems like something from The Onion.

It's the East Terrace guys, jasus. Of course it's a joke.

I'll take that as confirmed then Feicarsinn, but (and this might be hard to believe), that was my first visit to Scrum website in my life (through the link), so wasn't 100% sure, as I read the first half of the article as I said. After reading the full article I was much more sceptical.

Still Scrum (as a supposedly serious rugby website) shouldn't really be using bogus articles which make supposed direct quotes from players and management in a manner that isn't marked as a satirical article for that reason.

Blair was confident, however, that the Australians in his squad would not be intimidated by the All Blacks' fearsome aura.

Meanwhile, the Scottish Rugby Union have denied reports that they intend to select the entire country, including women and children, to face New Zealand this Saturday. It turns out the 'When Scotland Play We All Play' image circulating via the internet and television commercials is just a marketing campaign and not an official selection policy.

oh i think it is a joke

"At the same time I can hardly say: 'Lads, if we try really, really hard and go for it 110% and if we get a few lucky bounces and if the wind is in our favour and if New Zealand get a few yellow, even red cards, and if we all play the game of our lives and the ref favours us and New Zealand haven't had any sleep the night before and every single Kiwi player gets food poisoning then….then…then we could possibly, possibly trouble them for about 25 minutes!' That kind of speech doesn't sound like the right thing to do either.''

Then, suddenly, after training he comes up to me with the Disney Mighty Ducks DVD Trilogy and says that it may come in handy for some inspiration. He says that perhaps I could get the lads together to watch it Friday evening or at the very least throw up a few Emilio Estevez posters around the dressing rooms. I'm not so sure about that but if I'm honest I don't have any better ideas at present.
"I did put up some motivational posters to try to get the lads going. You know, the ones you often see in top corporate offices with pictures of mountain peaks, oceans and clouds and surrounded by a black border with quotes about believing and stuff. But I'm not so sure they would go down too well with tight-head props."

Lol!
