[RWC2023] England vs Samoa (07/10/2023)

Playmakers all over, and a powerful pack / back row...all good

3 fly half's
3 centres
1 wing
1 full back in the squad makes eddy look like a stable genius
It was always my problem with Jones; I may have disagreed with his selections, but I could never see what on Earth he was trying to do in the first place. It seems Sniff Bostik is going the same way.

Let's just hope that Jamie George doesn't get injured or red carded, eh..?

Even as an England supporter, it would be entertaining to see Farrell square up to Josua Tuisova in the quarter finals

Supporting a team and disagreeing with selection are both perfectly fine things to do. If we just blindly followed the team and agreed with every decision the coaches made we'd be boring and rather idiotic.

I will 100% be supporting/ getting behind the team this weekend but it doesn't mean that the selection is right in my opinion or is it the best team we can put out in many pundits eyes. That's the whole point of rugby forums to discuss stuff like this isn't it?

I think certain posters may have migrated over from rugby network where, at least on the wasps sub, it was severely frowned upon to be critical of the team in any way. You could be bottom of the table (as we sometimes were) and still, criticism of players not performing was seen as "not getting behind the players sufficiently"

Yes we have the same

Bath's surprisingly good at that - if anything, it's the posters who complain about anything and everything that dominated (better recently).

Those at either end of the scale both get challenged to expand and "justify" their opinions.

Any news on who's getting called up to replace Willis? Maybe his brother or Mercer as arguably Curry, Earl and Ludlum as a push?

I heard on a podcast that Josua Tuisova's 7 year old son passed and he'll miss the funeral and stay with the squad. Very very sad.

Thoroughly disappointed to not see Marcus at 15. There is the makings of a decent English attack in this tournament but Borthwick seems loathed to go down that route. Even a match like this where they can safely experiment.

EDIT: Glad to see Sopoaga get a start.

England 22 - 13 Samoa

Come All Within is similar I suppose although we do have some posters that seem to be there solely to troll which is weird. They're clearly not Quins fans and I can't understand the mentality of people who would join a forum simply to create negativity.

FWIW, I'm definitely in this camp. I don't like the selection and it's not what I'd have picked, but I'll most definitely be supporting the team.

England to limp into quarters and set up a rematch with Fiji...probably scrape a win there too and somehow everyone will be convinced everything is fine before losing to France or South Africa in an embarrassing defeat.
I don't think we've limped so far. We might not have set the world alight, but we've comfortably been the best team in our pool. I'm hoping to see a good win today which would put us into the QFs in good form and with a bit of momentum. I don't think anyone here thinks we're a particularly good team or playing to our potential, but considering where we were in the summer, getting to the SFs would be a success IMO - even with a big defeat. If we make the SFs, we'll be up against better teams, so if we lose, it wouldn't be surprising.

Meant limp in terms of performance against Samoa.

England have played better than expected, but nothing for me suggests better than semi-final and even that is because of an easy draw. Definitely I'm worried about how much kicking there will be with both Ford and Faz on the pitch.

We'll kick no more than France or any of the other top sides.

The difference is the execution. We aren't getitng it right...so that's the aspect I bet they've been working very hard on over the last few weeks. And the decision making.

Blowing try scoring chances to kick is not the way forward.

But they've been doing it the whole time under Borthwick and we've seen no real improvement in their decision making. They still kick aimlessly hoping to the opponents will make a mistake.

Really we would expect a win here, only in the quarter finals can any improvements be determined.
