[RWC2023] England vs Japan (17/09/2023)

Because we don't have anything like Billy....bit we have players who can do what Willis Does...like Earl, Curry etc.
We don't have anything like Billy even with Billy in the squad. His USP was being so big and difficult to stop it would condense the defence around him when he carried. Now there are multiple players who are stronger carriers than him and offer more on top. If he isn't making metres in traffic then he has no worth to the side.

Billy played very well in the prem...before his injury. SB was short on time so has taken a risk on him (and a few others) to see if he can bring that to this level again.

If it works we have a big game player back, if it doesn't then Earl is doing very well there and Ludlum can show what he's got tomorrow.

Absolutely no clue on the points difference here. Osada at centre should give a but more cutting edge to the backs, although he has minimal experience and could be a failed expeirment. Captain Himeno being available in the pack is a very big deal, but how fit is he?

I do think England have a very decent pack and defence, so that should see them home here comfortably (penalties etc), but it is hard to think a Joseph led Japan won't get at least two tries and keep things interesting. I still think we will see very little created by the English backs but for the sake of the tournament I am happy to be wrong.

Looks like its to be pretty warm (favouring Japan) and breezy (favouring England). I give up!

England 26 - 19 Japan

Depends which England turns up.
It's well within our capacity to strangle the life out of Japan, give them nothing much, and win whilst scoring 12-20 points, never looking particularly comfortable, or particularly likely to lose.
It's well within our capacity to actually run a few moves that result in tries (if only from 5m lineout => maul) and rack up 30-45 points (I think 50 is beyond us).
It's well within our capacity to look like we don't even know what each other's names are, provide no threat whatsoever, but plenty of doglegs and gaps in defence, and lost by 3-4 scores.

After our brilliant victory we should wipe the floor with Japan and go on to win the World Cup. It's just science!

On the backrow, I really hope we keep Earl at 8 and being in willies at 7 and keep Ludlum to the impact role on the bench. It will be telling to see if SB had learnt a lesson by playing a slow out of form Billy or if he makes the same mistake again but he's stuck on his original plan. Only time will tell.
Brilliant victory? England are dog ****. What world class players do you have? Literally, NONE of the eng players would get into Boks/NZ/France or Ire - Ford is a p***y,a few drop goals and the Eng think he's world class all of a sudden.SB has as much character as a slug, the players play for themselves and have zero strength of character.the fact that people are wondering whether Japan will beat you, says it all!England are boring, flat, weak willed and lazy

Don't want to seem too arrogant but I can't see us struggling too much today. Don't think we'll set the world alight by any means but I don't think we'll ever look like losing either. Japan have regressed massively since 2019.

- Me, 2019 after the underperforming team I support had a strong start to the competition.

(I mostly agree, would give Japan 20% at most)

Imagine being the kind of loser who joins a rugby board just to troll.

It wouldn't take much research to see that there isn't a single person here claiming we have world class players, Borthwick has character or play entertaining rugby.

However, it was a 'brilliant victory' on the basis that Argentina were clear favourites going in to the game and England played for 77mins with 14 men. No one is saying any more than that.

Don't join to troll, at all - just annoys me when I see delusional thinking and typical England supporter ignorance of the game. I would bet you've not played a single game of rugby yourself. It doesn't really matter, it's a case of opinion and everything's relative to what is said. England put millions into Rugby infrastructure every year, in order to home grow talent, the result of that in the last few years has been a disgrace. Look at Scotland, population of 5m / England circa 60m and they ran loops round you. 3 defeats to the Scots in last 3 games, two of which were at your home ground! England rugby is a shambles, and you lot play with no character. Like Ford, England supporters now believing he's magic. He's not world class. Just a good club player. He's a p***y in defence and crumbles against top tier opponents. Get real man, you lot are crap. And it's a joke, considering the amount of money put into the sport in England. Accept it and move on. 😂😂

Ennit, who's he trying to get a rise out of?

No-one hates England more than English fans

Yeah but look how well England's millions in infrastructure have helped Scotland out though, it's produced most of their RWC squad

Altruism

That's a bloody cop out - and a weak argument. Look how well England's millions has helped Scotland?? It's Scotland that are taking the helm on Scottish Rugby! Not the English - it's a zero sum point. Haha are you starting to get to "if it wasn't for England Scotland would not exist…" hahahahah don't lower yourself mate. It's pathetic. England are s**t, Scotland batter them, in character / style and form - and this World Cup, watching England is as entertaining as watching paint dry

Depends on the paint, surely? 😁

I think England will win, but it's not going to be quite as easy as people might think. Japan have gone backwards but so have England quite badly, but have shown to rise to the occasion at times.

Hahaha - now there's a bloke with a sense of humour!! England SHOULD wipe the floor with them. Just don't think they're there - fish starts to rot from the head. It's the management and the board that are all over the place.
