[RWC2023] England vs Argentina (09/09/2023)

They could be called the Main and the Alternative, or the First and the Second, instead of Home and Away.

Key word being domestic. He's looked of his time back in an Eng shirt.

This can only mean that Sinckler's injury was worse than let on. If Cole has to play he has to start, he just ain't bench material. (And pls don't even try to throw Leonard in 03 back at me…..).
Oh I agree, his time as an international prop is gone, domestic scrum dominance not translated and doesnt offer much else at this level. But if he is clearly one of the best domestically it points to a massive issue and what makes you think others offer more if they dont at club level.

Sinckler probably injured, but even then, he has been a shadow of what he once was and has been poor at international and domestic level.

Was simply stating I can understand the logic. If it was me I would of went in a differnt direction.

Perhaps less so so with May given the paucity of specialist wing options and that he was once one of the very best. Apparently Borthwick told him fairly early doors that he wouldn't be selected - honest, but not exactly motivational or keeping options open.

But Mitchell just looks like a panic move. Two very experienced players will have noses put right out of joint. And it's not like Mitchell's a 19 year old Gareth Edwards in the making. He's 26 and as far as I can see his only start was the Fiji fiasco. Not that Care or Youngs had made a compelling case though.
Know what the depressing thing about that statement is? That is the best our attack has looked all warm up. I get starting him since the attack looked less awful at points in that game and care and youngs have been dog water, but they were dog water you picked.

You'd think that will be on his mind and he'll be on his best behaviour. I can't really remember the red card last time. I think it was a high shot on Farrell with Lavanini running out of the defensive line pretty fast. For all the grief OF gets he was also petty good at getting people sent off too.
If there is any player that makes fazz look like a saint and doesnt need any help in that regard it is lavaini.

Not sure if it's "official", but I've always heard them called Home and Change kits

I saw an article a few days ago about how the change kits are getting used a lot more this tournament because of the drive to make the game more accessible to colour blind viewers - I can't remember this game being mentioned article though (I think it mentioned SA and Ireland vs Tonga, as the red/green clash is what's worst for colour blindness), so no idea who's wearing their change kit
I'd guess at England though, we usually do when we play Argentina

As a colour blind person, I approve of this change. When playing sports, I always performed better in a team sport when I was wearing a yellow kit. That extra split second can make a big difference.

After warm up struggles hard to swe anything other than Argentina by at least 10.

Just another example of a lack of consistency in selection for England. England's centre partnership for the 6 nations was Lawrence and Slade. Now for the world cup its Tuilagi and Marchant. How are they supposed to develop any cohesion when it completely changes like that.

It's worse than that when you look at the warm up ganes:

Vs wales Porter - Marchant
Vs wales Lawrence - Marchant
Vs ireland Manu - Marchant
Vs Fiji Manu - Lawrence

A different partnership for every game. How can they be expected to build a relationship on the pitch like that. I get they are warm ups but that's crazy, no wonder they look like they haven't played together before.

And it'll be different for the 6N when Marchant's in France. Wouldn't be surprised if at least one of Manu or Slade didn't join him at some point.

Easy to be totally pessimistic about this game but there's still enough talent in that England side to beat Argentina, and finish top of our pool. The last loss was them at their best and us at total mediocrity (and that's probably being kind), so even. 20% improvement would be enough. Not to take anything away from the Pumas, they have some real talent too, and often run southern hemisphere close, if not turning them over, but England still have a shot if they can pull it together.

Mitchell getting some stuck on here, but I think having him start is great. He provides fast delivery which we are going to need, because I suspect the Puma pack will have the measure of us at scrum time, so we need to be moving the ball about fast, getting it shifting in the loose with the likes of Earls, Genge, Sinks. England can win this game.

I don't have a problem with Mitchell starting this game. I like Mitchell. My problem is that he didn't start the previous games and has only been brought in at the last minute.

I'm completely pessimistic. That way I won't be disappointed when we lose. How have people still not learnt from the 6Ns and the summer warm ups? Low expectations are the way to go under Borthwick.

If you're pessimistic then things can only get better

Mrs VT has arranged for us to see friends tomorrow. I thought it was for lunch, but apparently not, you can guess the rest!

I'm not sure whether to thank her profusely or divorce her. Guidance welcome…..

I'll go if you don't fancy it

Why are you friends with people who dont watch rugby? That's surely the real question here. Don't dump the wife, dumps the friends.
