[RWC2023 Bronze Final] Argentina vs England (27/10/2023)

Neutrals wanted to see England "play" again?
That doesn't sound right.

Well, this is surely interesting for the argentinean fan

I've been soaking up all the argentinean press (honestly, more shocking things than the defeat to the ABs happened in the country and the effect of the defeat was somewhat diluted)

BUT certainly not for me, All I've been thinking is what's going to be of this rematch, the revenge of the c****

On one hand, most of the press considers this is the end of a somewhat positive cycle: Cheika's last match, but also the sendoff to Imhoff, Sanchez, Creevy, Gomez Kodela and some others

interestingly, I think that if ARG brings out the old boys once again, there's a fair chance for us: Cubelli and Sánchez would bring structure to a team that desperately needs it. Also, it being the last match for them, they would literally die on the field to get that medal. Mostly, I want to be rid of Bertranou and Carreras, I think their time is over, now start to rebuild with our younger prospects and ready ourselves for the coming of Fiji, Samoa or any other of our rivals (teams like Wales, Scotland and other mid-ranking in the top 10's). We have a number of players to rely on and to develop, we need a new coach and a new defensive coach, we need to develop our first row in the scrum and do many more things, so closing on an era with the old guard feels right

Now, I honestly don't think this will be the case, mostly because Michael Cheika is the kind of guy who will sink with his ***anic

If we make some changes, we have a chance, if we don't I see England destroying us

I want Argentina to win, but I think England will...in a very close match.

Its the rematch all neutrals wanted after the first encounter.
Yeah, we can expect a pretty turgid rehash of the previous game, hopefully 15 v 15, between the two teams that managed to score the fewest tries of those that qualified for QFs, and with arguably the least flair and attacking intent.
Argentinian and English fans don't really care about the result, so the most emotionally-involved will be the welsh ABE crowd.

Martin and Chessum > Itoje and Chessum or Martin
I'd have to say the last two games are potentially Itoje's best in several years, he's been magnificent and completely outplayed the likes of Etzebeth. I'd be curious to see this combo, but both Martin and Chessum have a lot of incremental work to do to be as effective as Itoje in this sort of form, for me anyway

Times reporting a back 3 of Smith at FB with Arundell and Steward on the wings.

So a 10 at 15, a 15 at 11 and a 15 at 14.

Honwstly i realised something, that im struggling to care about this game. But be also realised it's because we were so close to being in a final and beating the odds that this is a cancellation prize and not worth alot.

If that is the backline then we are going to play not only kick, guessing the weather is better.

Mitchell Ford
Lawrence Marchant
Arundell Smith Steward

Care
Faz
May/Manu

Its not a bad team tbh, has the ability to go wide as well as compete in the air. And isnt like its weak under the high ball. Steward could get caught out though.

I think ill be up for this on friday.

Return of the kamikaze twins!
Wonder what Underhill starting over Ludlam says about the pecking order going forwards?

Surprised they've not given Lawrence a start tbh, and would've liked Ford to get a start, but ho hum - hopefully a fun game, some dynamic players starting on the on the bench, hopefully they're not stifled

Tbh my assumption is that Underhill only covers one position, wheras Ludlam covers 3
True, but Ludlam (and Curry and Earl) can cover 6/7/8 from the pitch so if one went off and Underhill comes on they can reshuffle
Just must be a bit disheartening for Ludlam to see Underhill start ahead of him after only being there 10days or so

Marler and Lawes won't get to have a proper goodbye which is a little sad tbh.

Walker must be absolutely raging to not get a game this week either

With Youngs starting the selection comes across as a thanks for your effort over the last few months team.

Underhill has a chance to show what he's got now but i don't think Ludlam will be that put out.

You'd like to think that Borthwick has asked the likes of Lawes and Marler if they wanted to play or they carrying knocks- neither seemed to be.

Winning a 6N will be difficult but I'm not all for just playing the kids either so would have liked to have seen the likes of Lawes play in the 6N if their form warrants selection.

It's hard to get excited about this one but as others have said view it as the start of a new era. I got really sick of 'it will all be alright by the world mateeee' Eddie Jones so want to see England win as many games as possible and challenge for as many 6N ***les as possible.
