RWC: Springboks - Samoa (30-09-2011, 20:30)

That's it squire, get yer excuses in early.

Dont be such a f***wit and even dare hint that Owens will even dream of attempting to ref the game in a way that may benefit Wales. If SA play well enough then they will win it anyway so just focus on your own team

Erm,, not to be funny but you're the duckwit here; the best (surest) result for Wales would be for SA to win and the poster is thus implying the ref might favor SA. LOL.

That said, I don't have any doubt in Owens and think he is in the top 5 as far as ref's go for sure. Best of luck to Manu and may the best team win. This was always going to be a cracking match and I just hope for a fair and flowing match.

I Really can't see Samoa win this match at all. they were horrible vs Fiji on Sunday, whereas the boks keeps on playing better and better as the tournament goes on. the Boks had 3 more days to prepare for this game than Samoa, and SA had a less physical encounter than Samoa did.

If Samoa play like they did vs Fiji, the Boks will get more than 40 on the board and I don't think Samoa will breach our defensive lines...

With Bismarck starting there will also be a clear physical presence in the forwards and our pick and drives as well as the driving mauls will work very well vs the pacific islanders... by not playing expansive, we will destroy them. if they do get the bonus point though, i hope fiji win for wales then coz it would be awesome if Samoa can go through!

We need to make a BIG statement in this game going into the quarter finals. Samoa can do anything if they are fired up, and the most important thing we need to do is not miss first time tackles. The Samoans are going to try to hit us as hard as possible, and have nothing to lose in this game. We have everything to lose.

I have to disagree here... The Samoans have more to lose than us, if they lose, they're out of the competition, whereas if we lose we can still be in the competition based on points difference and bonus points etc. Both teams have something to play for and whoever is going to be the more clinical will win... As Frans Steyn said after the 2007 WC final: "Ons is man vir man beter as hulle".

Great to hear Bismarck will be starting. Hope it's not just throwing the dog a bone but I guess it is; Bissie has showed every match that he is the best man for the no.2 jersey and we still end up with Smit so I don't expect anything to change after this match whether Du Plessis has ANOTHER blinder or not.

PdV said he'll be giving every man a starting game this RWC. Does that mean we'll see Pienaar, De Jongh etc start? Probably. Matfield and JdV are also fit... we might end up with a line-up that's not our best.. That said, with the players in the squad and considering our injuries it would hardly be a show of disrespect to give guys like Aplon and Pienaar a go as they played fantastically in the previous match (although against Namibia...). I'd predict Pienaar at 10 to give Morne a break as he's played every match (while James is injured and Lambie has to play at 15 as we have precious few alternatives in this squad seeing as Frans Steyn in playing so well at 12 to boot) and Du Preez needs match fitness while Hougaard has shown he'll thrive off of whatever he gets. My predicted matchday 22;

1 Tendai Mtawarira
2 Bismarck du Plessis
3 Jannie du Plessis
4 Danie Rossouw
5 Victor Matfield (c)
6 Francois Louw
7 Schalk Burger
8 Pierre Spies
9 Fourie du Preez
10 Ruan Pienaar
11 Brian Habana
12 Francois Steyn
13 Juan de Jongh
14 JP Petersen
15 Patrick Lambie

16 Tendai Mtawarira
17 Chiliboy Ralepelle
18 Willem Alberts
19 Heinrich Brussow
20 Francois Hougaard
21 Morne Steyn
22 Jean de Villiers

Not necessarrily my prefered team but if you accept the probability that we're gonna start a few guys who havn't played yet and rest a few others..

If Samoa get 5pts and Wales get 5pts tomorrow and vs Fiji that'll see Samoa and Wales through

Not if SA get a bonus point ;)

Well duhh.

Duh x 2

This will be an interesting week for pool D. This will give us a good indication of who goes through to the last 8. Who ever comes out alive from this pool will possibly win the WC.

How far off from full strength?

Well, if JP continues his form from the Fiji game it'll be okay. Habana? Rather have Hougaard there or at 9 tbh. F.Steyn at 12 is awesome. Otherwise... Solid! I like it, I like it very much...

I like the starting XV but what is up with the 5-2 split??? That almost messed up our match against Wales...

They seem to like having two props on the bench - the advantage of this is that John Smit won't be forced to play prop :)

Hougaard should be starting somewhere. Pietersen isn't as effective as Hougaard IMO.

I think Pietersen is the best winger we have together with Aplon... At least he brings some physical strength on the wing. Habana should be benched. Let's see what Hougaard and Pietersen can do

Alesana Tuilagi up against Habana. Woooo Hoooooo.

I have my money on Samoa by 12points.

This south african squad is the strongest i've seen. Can't wait.

That is a scary boks squad. My heart will go to the Manu, my vCash will go the Manu and I will with baited breath watch the result behind closed fingers.

Whoever crawls out of Pool D irrespective of first or second will be fairly beaten up by the Finals.

Samoa will mix up the flair and hits. For the boks sake hopefully someone can take out Smit should he come on.

And Steyn 12 may have best PdV best decision in his bok coaching career coz he is simply outstanding there.
