RWC: Springboks - Samoa (30-09-2011, 20:30)

Either way it's a ridiculous and pathetic response by the Samoan players and supporters to be coming out with all this garbage like death threats and calling Owen racist and saying that it's part of a conspiracy against them. Whose going to want to play them when thats the reaction when they lose.

At the end of the day Williams isn't 8 years old, he screwed up, couldn't control his temper like an adult and it cost his team.

Geez this hating of the reff is now being demonstrated by one of the Manu players. Sapolu has come out with some issues he has on the news, it doesnt help that it comes after the loss.

All you Somoan people on this thread seriously needs to stop! IF brussouw did something illegal then the touch judge would've also flagged him... He didn't... Because you are allowed to try and get someone holding on to you off you! If the touch judge didn't flag him, then he would've been cited, that also didn't happen! So please shut the F up!! It's done and dusted!!

South Africa has been on the wrong end of the citing stick for years now especially when we're in Oz and NZ, so why now would there be an exception??

Calm down, watch the game again without emotional attachment and just look how your guys we're guilty of negative play and ****les... The difference was, SA remained calm, Samoa didn't... Samoa retaliated, SA didn't... Please! These childish rants should just stop!!

Yip, I agree. I guess he was having a couple of cold ones after the game:D

Honestly don't know what this hating on the Ref is all about,SA had a number of calls that went against them too and in fact even if the Ref wasn't as bad as he was I think Samoa will be lucky to just have been beaten by such a small margin if we didn't go to sleep in the 2nd half. But hats off for them cos they also came out firing after half time, but if we played nearly as good as we played in the 1st 10-20min of the first half the whole game the score wouldve been bigger...

In all honesty though Samoa never looked like winning that game regardless of their attack in the 2nd half and even if they did score they wouldve been 12 up against 13 from the boks and thats if Pisi converted, their discipline is something they also need to look at too if they want to compete with big teams cos you can't just do off the ball stuff and so many number of high tackles(which were not penalised) in fact I would love to see the number of infrigments penalised cos it looks like we got penalised more in this match!!

On anothe note I think its a massive blow that we lost Frans Steyn!! That could possibly mean the end of our World Cup and I know you probably think I'm too dramatic but its true! Not only do we miss an extra kicker who could kick from like 60m meaning teams would need to be weary of giving penalties in their own 10m line, but we also lost someone who can get us against the Advantage line cos JDV just can't do that and when we come against Nonu(Yes we will beat Australia) who I rate as the Best No.12 in the world it will be vital.

]I think the islands need to get club teams in either the ITM Cup or the Super 15[/B], the problem with just playing tests is the island teams never get to field their best players because all their best players are playing for clubs in Europe, but if the island teams each got a team to be in either the ITM Cup or S15, it could develop all of the local island rugby players to where they wouldn't even need these players from Europe. I think the only way for the island teams to be up with all the major teams in the world is for their local players to be up with all the best club players in the world, that way they won't have to rely on bringing together players from random clubs all over the world once every 4 years.

and if they can't do that they could at least have island teams like Fiji Warriors, Samoa A, Tonga A play regular games against S15 teams

How many island players ply their trade in those competitions already though? Fact is the majority of them are born and raised in NZ and play there anyway.

Your actually the one with the errors...Brussouw rained down fist and forearm strikes full force on Paul Williams head as Williams was looking down - thats why he didn't let go he wanted a go at whoever was above him punching him in the head.So you saying an opened hand push to the head is worse than several full force punches to the head of Paul Williams?serious question.as a sidenote: When explaining what had happened to Owens the Touch Judge used a closed fist when demonstrating the strike - when it was clearly just an opened handed push....
What you are saying is just utter bull!!! He would never have got the blow to the head if he wasn't holding him in the 1st place!! And the touch judge never said it was a closed fist he said 'A strike to the face' and yeah he might have showed a fist but that was like by his stomach and Nigel Owens didn't see that signal,in fact if the TJ thought it was a punch he wouldve said so and not used 'Strike'

Pretty hypocritical to slam the Samoan supporters when from the sounds of it you do the exact same thing when things don't go your way.

Come on mate, Brussouw clearly hit him on the back of the head/neck with a closed fist. Hanging onto someone's jersey off the ball isn't justification for repeated strikes to the head, neck and arms.

Dude understandably so! Why was he holding him thou? He had no reason to be holding onto his Jersey!! And Brussouw never punched him, he used his forearm to get himself free and so yeah Paul Williams got a forearm to his head,in fact I wish Brussouw had actually punched him cos that guy deserved more than what he got

If the officials had spotted Brussow striking the player in an attempt to free himself and got the card he deserved, Williams would have had every reason to be holding on... as it is, he lost the game of who the refs spotted, and tough ***ty.

Regardless of the result not going our way, Very proud of the team giving everything they had and taking one of the reigning world champs to the limit. We may not have qualified for the next round, but we (along with Tonga after their big upset today) showed the world WHO WE ARE and that is the PROUD RUGBY WARRIORS OF THE PACIFIC. Manu Samoa fa'amalosi....to the end and till death !

Sapolu was making comments about him being gay before the match as well, but quickly deleted his comments - I take no interest in what the c*** says anymore

So you're saying Williams deserved a red card for pushing someone in the face after getting thumped in the head, yet you're ok with Brussouw hitting someone in the head for having his jersey held on to. Take your eyepatch off for a second and think about what you're saying.

The TJ did spot Brussouw striking the player and Brussouw even complained to him to show he was being held! Had he not been holding him he would never have got that strke! So he got what was coming for him, thou I wish he had got more than just a forearm to the neck! The only card that should be debateable is the one to John Smit cos a Yellow card was just harsh, but you don't see us B*tch and Moan about that and go to twitter, facebook etc and give the Ref hell and what not!

I'm saying exactly that!!! There were just so many off the ball stuff things that the Samoans were trying to do,it didn't seem like they wanted to play rugby its like they wanted to play wrestling or something and I'm glad that Paul Williams got caught cos what he was doin was unprofessional,he would never had got the blow to the head if he wasn't holding him to begin with, so I think you should be the one taking the eyepatch off !

I'm not Samoan or South African so I have no eyepatch on. Look, hanging onto someone like that so far off the ball is hardly even a penalty offence it does not justify someone whacking him in the head!

If you think Williams deserved a red card then you're also saying Brussouw deserves one cause Brussouw's was worse.

Well, as for the Brussow, Williams thing I think Brussow went a tad far in trying to get Williams off but the first infringment is Williiams hanging on to him ilegally and Brussow had to demonstrate to bring it under the attention of the touch judge (did he go a bit far? maybe) but a red card is the sanctioned penalty for striking a player in the face and that is exactly what happened even if it was with a flat hand it was definately a strike and a cheap one at that to a player looking the other way. Fair call IMO. Williams had a brain fart and was unlucky enough to get called on it. There were loads of other off the ball stuff from both teams. It did get balanced out and absurdly so with that ridiculous Smit yellow; how do you get a yellow when a try isn't on the cards and the ball didn't even go straight down?

Samoa got off lightly-after all none of their players were bitten or had their hair ripped out!
