RWC: Australia - Ireland (17-09-2011 20:30)

Nah, Bowe has never been known for his speed, he's one of the best because of the way he reads the game/the lines he runs
JOC is much faster than he is

Still he could've made it if he just would've kept his correct runningstyle instead of trying to go to fast. But indeed he reads the game very well.

Brings me back to last autumn when a certain JOC and Mitchell got outsprinted :p.

Yeah, we found out years ago that BOD is a 30m man. Bowe showed today he's a 60m man. JOC is the full 100m.

When Bowe hit the Aus 10m line it was clear he was going to be caught. Sexton should have kept up in support, but he slacked off and did that pointing-to-the-corner "you go, girl" thing. Chance wasted.

Tbh like i said before Bowe should've kicked inside. Watching the replay it actually looked like Sexton was shouting "left!" to Bowe but if i was Bowe i would've loved to try and get the try haha

How disapointed I was to see Tommy Bowe get absolutely ran down (from at least 15m away) by O'Connor at the end, but I guess it still clenched the match. From a New Zealand perspective, I'm not so happy. This means we're guarenteed to meet either Australia or South Africa in a semi-final, providing South Africa beat Samoa and Namibia and New Zealand beat France and Canada. Personally I think we should lose to France, as it seems like we'll get an easier run come the semi-finals. Still, sucks to be Australia or South Africa, who one is guarenteed to get out in the QF.

Still too soon to predict but if SA meet Aus in the QF, that might be both of their finals there.

I expect that would be an epic encounter, both would have to put it all on the line to win. Could be an easier Semi if the winner is softened up, may be has an injury or two haha.

That's what i am hoping for any way!!!

Great photo - think this is when Genia got picked up and carried 10m by Ferris:

weakened australian side? They were missing two first team players, a hooker and a back row. Guess what??? we were missing a hooker and a back row. Lads you were beaten off the park by a team who wanted it more.

Few points on things mentioned:
- Why would France want to put out a weakened team vs NZ, if they beat the All Blacks the amount of momentum and confidence they'd get would mean they'd fancy themselves to beat anyone in the RWC.

- On Bowe as was said already he was always known to be a 'slow' winger who can do a great burst of speed from 40-50m out and well picks great lines and reads the game in defense to get interception chances like today.

- Also I know people say Bowe could've kicked it across for try but as Doug Howlett said tonight at Munster game when chatting "If you were a player in that situation, knowing the opposition need 2 scores and 2 mins left and minimal risk because all your players are behind you to defend in a worst case scenario would you pass? Hell No you go for the glory and back yourself"
And well if the record All Blacks Try scorer has that mindset I'm sure all worldclass wings (and Bowe is 1) have that mindset

I thought Bowe showed good form to take the tackle as well - he held the ball and went into touch, some players *coughCOOPERcough* :)p) would've thrown the ball in field in the general direction of his team mates which could've potentially been disastrous

Yeah he did well to put it in corner and well if anyone noticed Murray very smartly touched it straight away to slow down the wuick throw they were looking for

Maybe France would rather be on the opposite side of the draw to Australia and South Africa? I know I would.

I have a feeling certain people are gona hate me for saying this but really with 2 minutes to go i'd put in the cross kick if i saw it as an opportunity.

True but a loss in that circumstance puts France under pressure because:
- It says we're afraid of SH teams
- And if they don't make final after plotting their way to easy side then they look very bad
- And the amount of ammo the other teams will have by using the "France think we're crap and said we're an easy option"
- And if they make the final and meet a SH team the SH team will know that France fear them.

Ireland for example could've used a weakened team today and waited until Italy game but in a RWC momentum is a big part of winning that trophy and France won't gain that by chickening away from SH teams. It shouldn't matter what side you are in because to win the World Cup you have to beat the best at some stage.

Perhaps he just didn't see - he's just played 78mins and has intercepted a pass, I imagine the tunnel vision kicks in and you're just concentrating on putting one foot in front of the other as fast as possible to get away from the guy behind you

That easy to say now and well in hindsight but if your an worldclass winger and scoring tries are your main job then Bowe would probably not have even looked left he seen that corner and just said go for it

That's exactly what i thought but the reason for minimizing the risks seemed a little over the top. If the Wallabies or All Blacks or maybe even the Springboks were in that position they may have kicked it. I'm just saying these little things sorta seperate the great teams from the ok/good teams. I'm being extremely petty but these are things i think the nh need to be a little more aware of.

Yeah my main thing was he was probably was jus thinking "jus go for glory" but it would be nice if he was a little more adventurous.

I disagree I think the All Blacks and these teams would've been adventurous and went for it and that is why they are the best because they back their skill.
We have to remember and give credit to James O'Connor as he made a superb effort to catch Bowe and if it wasn't for that Bowe would've got his try but Tommy was right to back himself and if we have a few more like that we'll be in a good place.

Really?? There were about 4 guys running at good pace in a straight line with all the Wallaby defenders running towards Bowe.

i can see this thread being the most active thread on TRF for the duration of the world cup. :p
