RWC: Ireland - Russia (25-09-2011, 15:30)

McFadden is a 12 lads and according to Uncle Dec Earls is the future at 13.

Christ if he cant manage that channel against Russia he shouldnt be anywhere near there.

Maybe with a bit of decent ball we might see something decent. You never know.

Hes fine on attack but even at wing i've felt he is a bit dodgy on defense, at center... all that comes to mind is Manu Tuallngi swatting him off V England.

Thought his defence has always been fine on the wing. But indeed, I do not trust him at centre against any of the big teams.

Earls has a fine defensive skill set on wing but you need a more controlled mindset in centre and he hasn't got that but has been getting form back on wing and well hope he does well for confidence because really this is a no win situation for fringe guys because play well and it was always expected but play poorly and theyll be fried

I think its a mistake not to make more changes. If SOB or Healy gets injured it'll be a massive blow to the team.

The Australian/USA game earlier shows what can happen. The Aussies picked up about 5 injuries playing against a second string USA. The world cup is the toughest rugby competition in the world so players should be given rest when they're not needed.

why put "chips"(earls) in the center where he's gonna be hit by "burgers" & im sure they will be targeting him there, maybe they might shuffle him & mcfadden during the game if all is not going to plan! i mean bod & darcy are bordering on the extreme of modern day centers so i dont really see the point of putting him there...he needs a few visits to "holland & barrett" to put himself in the frame for the future!! as for the rest of the team im prity content with the line up, good to see boss & cullen there but more importantly the boy trimble, i really want him to stake a claim for the italy match(not as if he didnt do that already to start the tournament!) i think earls will slot back in though whatever happens sunday!!

Agreed 100% - Jennings, while I don't think is good enough for big games, should be capable and trused with starting 7 here and have Leamy as option to cover all the backrow.
Healy had a superb game against Aus but took a few bangs too and should be left rest up for Italian game as him and Ross are going to be vital there. I'd be ok with 1 being involved but Tom Court and Buckley should both be in here.
Also I think Murray on the bench would be more benefical as it gives Mirray more experience.

On Earls, I think he knows he isn't a 13 and is a winger but lads if your told your 13 you just be happy you got a jersey and he's just happy to be playing

In Ireland's matchday 22, Earls is the 13 cover should anything happen to BOD. Which is why they are keeping him warm in the position.

That's my opinion at least.

Don't agree with it, but pretty sure that's the logic.

I suppose your correct there as we seen it happen when BOD went off against Oz for few mins. And well I suppose the little things he can only learn with experience are best learnt in these type of games.
Also BOD is that bit older now so prone to injury that bit more

I'd also say the worries about his defence are overstated, he got caught flat-footed once on quick ball and was in the wrong place - the rest of the game he marshalled Tuilagi well. All the Irish centres have one giant clanger to their name recently (except for Wallace, who genuinely is the weakest defender of the five).

they should definatly just start with ROG from quater finals, otherwide i don't see us advancing any further !!

You probably need to get yourself a good pair of glasses, then. It's no good bringing Sexton on from the bench, as ROG does that job much better. Sexton starting and O'Gara closing it out is the way I'd prefer to see it going for the rest of the tournament.

Is it me or has the whole of Ireland moved to New Zealand. Apart from the NH teams, the green army support seems to be hugh.I am not sure which SH team has the most fans attending but Ireland support looks awesome.

Haha, Sean Fitzpatrick just said (of SOB ):
"He's almost like James Haskell"

I was devastated that Buckley got that try in the end. I mean, come on!

Cronin had a bad game. Fingers crossed Best doesn't pick up any injuries.

Sextons missed conversion at the end blew alot of peoples bets. Theres a few p!ssed off posters on boards.ie who were on Ireland -51pts.
