RWC 2011 Demo - Your thoughts?

The game is well... An improvement I guess, but not really... Pitch looks even worse. Commentary is absolutely brilliant! The French is perfect, I love Sella in a manly way. Those superman tackles are still there and those same animations for a clothes line tackle that didn't result in a penalty which is bullshit... The rucks are just button mashing which is annoying and the grubbers aren't particularly useful. Forwards get demolished with some big tackles that aren't very realistic all the time and overall just not up there in terms of gameplay. Graphics are pretty bad but the presentation is nice with the score board and try scorers and such... The thing RWC 2011 has over RC is the sound by a mile, RC has poor commentary. One thing though is that if this is supposed to be in Auckland, why was swing low sweet chariot being sung by fans???
because England were playing

Take a look at Fifa and then back at this game and tell me they are both worth 50 quid!

Fifa is football / soccer ... Rugby is rugby [/lesson]

RWC'11 is not £50 either.

Bloody hell, 50 quid for a game. You buy your games from Harrods or something :O :O :O lol

Can't wait to try the game on harder difficulties so i can play some more "authentic" rugby - forced to kick the ball when inside the 22 etc :p chip kicks are a lovely addition, also i find double tapping triangle gives a quicker grubber (could be a personal thing, but seems to be executed faster with 2 fast taps)

In England? No... In Auckland, New Zealand. I don't recall it ever being sung outside Twickenham.

Not been to many games have you?

Has been sung at Millennium Stadium and from friends who went to games in Paris they say it was sung there by the English.

Well still within Europe. But in New Zealand? Highly doubt it...

The English singing about a chariot?! Never!
Trying to find an issue like that with a game really is a bit silly. I find the nit-picking about this game to be laughable really while nothing is ever said about the other game without the word "masterpiece" or something similar in the sentence.

Hmm ... urm .... hmm ... urm

Guess a NZ member could answer if they have been to an NZ vs. England game and say if the English fans sang it there.

But I can assume with a high number of supporters going down under it is a real possibility it could happen.

I have heard English supporters sing it at a test, they tend to mostly stick together in a large group of dozens upto a hundred or more and with most of us kiwis not exactly singing when we watch our rugby, the English tend to be heard quite clearly. It even was sung during the Lions tour.

From a television experience, the English do still get heard, but not really every game in New Zealand. I've heard them in one or two patches in all the tests I've watched within New Zealand, but that tends to be related to them not exactly having the moments to sing about.

The fans tend to cheer if England is within 7-10 pts of New Zealand (or in front) and the opportunities for that within New Zealand up till now have been limited. Often limited to the first half and from what I can tell they seem to really get into it in the 2nd half if they feel they have a chance.

yeah i agree with what Craig said.

i have been to a few english games where they have sung, dont ask me to name them cause i cant remember :p

we dont normally sing, we would rather watch the game :p

Of course they do! Can you honestly say we wont hear Swing Low during the cup? It's the same as saying teh Welsh dont sing wherever they go...

If the Welsh have learned to do both I'm sure New Zealanders can deal with a bit of multi-tasking ;)

''Those bloody big fishes are Wales'' And ofcourse the welsh/english etc sing.

I tend not to contribute to these threads or on Sidhe, i prefer to read and wait to judge. The naysayers of this game have, well...naysayed(?) and every other person has told me to wait until the demo, so i have and just got home from work and played this on the PS3...underwhelmed.

It does have some good features, i like the ruck, even if it is the same as 08, but with a bar. However I am sure this will change with harder settings. Sadly, dressing it up doesn't change the fact that it is a cheap repackage. Every animation and move (even the defensive settings are the same with the D Pad) is 08. The thought of 6 other licenses only, for a World Cup game is also a bit of a put off.

I'm not going to write that RC will be amazing, because pretty pictures and videos don't amount to a computer game, and for some reason the non-committal on a release date is discerning. Their campaign though has carried some weight as they have listened and clearly giving rugby fans a game with some longevity/options.

I do feel for HB and the people of TRF, clearly rugby gaming fans are a passionate bunch, and the pettiness of these forums is amazing!! However, this vitriol is not completely undeserved, people aren't stupid, they have seen this game as what it is - a repackage of something 4 years ago with a bit more glitter on it. It's a shame, as me and everybody else here was looking forward to something good.

One other bug bear to get of my chest, if you're worrying about mauls in a rugby game, you're the people who play FIFA/PRO with 5 in Defence and 2 in Defensive Midfield, run with the ball!

How oftern did you play 08, because you may or may not like this game, BUT IT IS NOT THE SAME, the rucking mechanism is completely different. The forward play is completely different, if you really stop and learn the true mechanics from both rucking sytems 08 and 11 you would see that. What is true is that on easy difficulty it may seem the same, sure, if you are one to just button mash on rucks then yes, yould would be doing the same on 08 and 11 the problem is most people didn't know how to play the rucks in 08 either, it was not button mashing either, but most people did that, now hb has implemented a system to try and teach people to not always button mash, because if you do all the time you will be penalized in 08 you would be penalized by having less players to defend with and in 2011 your penalized for being to aggressive. They are different system. And mauls are a big part of rugby, and this is an area that does need improving, and is almost identical to 08. If not check out the compared to 08 thread, I put a list of improvements and changes in the game in that thread. TRY the new features, you may be suprised how different it will play.
Cheers and Salud

We only wish we could. A lot of New Zealanders have wanted to have a good song to sing during a match, but unfortunately all the suggestions of New Zealand songs sound incredibly cheesy.

It's one of those entertaining things that I take my hat off to the Welsh and English about. Then I realise I don't have a hat on. :D

i played Rugby 08 a LOT and this is exactly the same, the only difference i've noticed on this new one is the opposition can now get a quick turnover at the ruck, other than that its the same thing, the most annoying thing is how the opposition always do the same thing too, its so easy to just smash their first five every time because you always know where he's going to be and what he's gonna do

also the first five for england looks nothing like toby flood, he looks like an old man with spiky hair

also is it just me or does the jersey's on south africa look warped around their shoulders?

I honestly can't believe that the same tackling animations have been used this time around. Shocking. I can't see myself paying full price for a game that is seemingly and upscaled version of something that came out 5 years ago. Very disappointed.

On my first phase I scored a try eerily similar to thousands I'd scored on Rugby 08. Sadly, with the exclusion of Club teams and the World League I don't think this game will have the lifespan that 08 had, the gameplay is just too similar, and coupled with only having international teams I am seriously considering giving the game a miss altogether.

There are people here saying that expecting a new game is too much, but is it really? I hope the developers' read this because they've really dropped the ball. In my opinion, bringing a game like this out at the start of the current gen cycle would've been acceptable. In 2011? Not so much.

You haven't even played it on anything but easy difficulty so not sure why you're trying to tell us the game is "completely different" on a difficulty you yourself have never even played! Sounds like how they tell you the bunching is improved on the harder difficulties.. sure it is, that's why you gave us the worst rendition possible of the game in the demo, which is your tool to entice people.. backwards logic.

Hell we can do it in not one, but TWO different languages :D also damn it man! Where is your hat?!

Of course it's not as if people on the forum have played the game on harder difficulties...and posted about it...where people can read it...
