Russian rugby

Me 1
I have not
seen enough games Antonov, to evaluate it. But I can say that Kingsley Jones very believes in a Denis. He is like Kulyomin and Ostrikov from Moscow. What you know about Scarlets interesting to Antonov or maybe another Russians players?

I've heard our coach could also be looking at some props from Russia (or Georgia) to come in so I suppose we could be looking at others. I don't know whether there is much in this rumour as I just read it on another rugby forum, but apparently our coach went to the game to see for himself.

I think Kingsley said the myth of big Russian forwards is just a myth. He has said that they have many quick backs, not so much monstrous forwards.

I heard that too, but they seem to have a bit of depth at second row. Kulemin, Ostrikov, Byrnes, Antonov, formerly Sergeyev.

where has this myth been circulating? as Kingsley is 100% right

I've watched Georgia's ENC matches, and trust me Russia has the worst scrum out of any of the nations which has reached the World Cup, they are simply dreadful scrummagers

and were destroyed at scrum in both the matches I saw them play, even against the USA (a poor scrummaging side) and to a crazy extent by Italy, I didn't see the Australia and Ireland matches but I assume that they got plenty of penalties as well

they have some decent forwards like Ostikov and Gresev, but they are a backs side for sure

they don't have a single credible prop

Ask most people what they expect from Russian rugby, and they will probably say big forwards.
Some real quality young backs though.

Fit right in at the Scarlets then:lol:

You're unlikely to know that after the World Cup we have not played in the optimal squard. Kingsley is a lot of new and young players, for which he, incidentally, strongly criticized by fans and coaches Russian clubs. If you want to see matches of the RWC, such as Australia. There we played a major squard, except for the match against the United States and the position number 10 (Rachkov not always played full matches).

actually I did know that Russia has played a much younger squad in the ENC, partly because the likes of Ostrikov and Artemyev were in England, and also because Russia seems to very highly rate Sevens

the pack has some good players as individuals, but the set piece is simply shocking for Russia

they really need to find some passable props

In Monday 28 May first Siberian Derby of this season Enisey-STM vs Krasny Yar. STM organized on your site live video. Start this game 19-00(Krasnoyarsk time) or 15-00(Moscow time).

John Dodd about derby against Enisey-STM

– John, could your please give us your comments to the game? What was the coach task for the game?
– Going into the game we were told we need to play in their half, make minimal mistakes, and defend strongly. Our discipline should be good and give away no penalties, and statics need to be strong.

– You missed 2 penalties. What was wrong?
– The 2 kicks I missed were both from 50m so just at the edge of my range. They both just fell short unfortunately.

– There was a bunch of mistakes as it was in previous games. What is the reason? Nervous situation or good defence from Enisey side?
– Yes, we haven't been playing our best this season. We have huge potential, it is just a matter of everything clicking on the day and we will be very hard to stop. I think a bit more time together with these new combinations and everyone understanding their specific role better. We were also missing 3 starting forwards in Glen Gregory, Andrey Kondakov, and Nazir Hasanov. These 3 players are very influential for us, as Yenisei's strength is in their forwards.

– Were there any game issues from your perspective?
– We really struggled to get anything going all game because our set piece wasn't great so we struggled to build any phases or attacks. STM 9 (Baranov) kicked really well and had us under pressure a lot too. We just made too many mistakes and didn't react well to our bad set piece.

– Did coach team set a new goals for the rest of Championship?
– Our goals are obviously still the same. We are focusing on winning the Russian Championship of course. This game would have been good to win of course, but we also realise it isn't the end of the world. We have plenty of games left, and another chance at STM later on our home turf! So we definitely will not panic. We can rectify these issues at training.

Ryan Bambry about derby against Krasny Yar

– Our congratulations on your victory. Could your please give us your comments to the game?
– Thanks! Game was very physical like always against krasny yar. Our forwards were oustanding, very good scrum and lineouts which set the platform to win the game.

– What was the coach task for the game? Was it helpful?
– The game plan was to play inside the Krasny Yar half as much as possible, but its like this for every game we play. When we get inside their half then we want to play rugby, and against Yar we had maybe three or four opportunities to score tries but we only took one of those, so i think we left points out on the field.

– As opposite to your vis-a-vis, your kicking was good. Do you know the reason?
– Goalkicking is very a important part of the game and i just practice a lot. I had four sessions on locomotiv during the week so that helped a lot with understanding the wind.

– You kicked the drop-goal. Why you decided to do it? Maybe it was better to continue attacking and commit a try?
– The drop goal i felt was needed, there was 10 minutes until finish and i knew if i could kick it then we could be 14 points up and comfortable.

– Did coach team set a new goals for the rest of Championship?
– Our goal of course is to win the championship again. If we dont, then we have taken a backward step this year. I am confident we have the team to do it again.
