Rugby Championship: South Africa - Australia (29/09/2012)

Not bad, given the circumstances. Is Ben Lucas injured? He would be a good bench option, especially for a 5/2 split.

Wallabies XV

15 Berrick Barnes
14 Dom Shipperley
13 Adam Ashley-Cooper
12 Pat McCabe
11 Digby Ioane
10 Kurtley Beale
9 Nick Phipps
8 Radike Samo
7 Michael Hooper
6 Dave Dennis
5 Nathan Sharpe (c)
4 Kane Douglas
3 Ben Alexander
2 Tatafu Polota-Nau
1 Benn Robinson

Replacements:
16 Saia Fainga'a, 17 James Slipper, 18 Rob Simmons, 19 Scott Higginbotham, 20 Liam Gill, 21 Brett Sheehan, 22 Anthony Fainga'a

Not a bad XV at all. It's just a bit strange to see 10 Beale, 15 Barnes but still a good first XV IMO.

I don't know, but they have Berrick Barnes on the field as backup for the flyhalf spot. Another backup on the bench would be a redundancy.

Giving all the injuries, this is the best side available and the most equilibrated one.

Timani injuried with hamstring as well as Moore (and JOC), I wander who's fitness coach!!

With 7 of the first choice players out (Horwill, Pocock, Genia, Cooper, Moore, Palu, Mitchell), the first 3 natural leaders of this team, Timani also out (this guy was improving impressively), the stomach bug that hit half of the team...
...if South Africa were to lose this game too, they should spent 5 months in a camp in Groenland.

Funny stuff: the Wallabies have a 5-2 split on the bench, with 5 forwards a scrum half and a back, while the Springboks have 4 forwards and 3 backs.

Awkward stuff: for the first time in 5 years I like more the Springboks XV than the Wallabies XV. :D

It's been ages since the 'boks last beat the Wallabies (partly because of what went down in 2011). Hope they do it this weekend, it's been too long.

The vibe is good, most spectators eagerly awaiting the contest. There is this burning desire to play attacking rugby...
Can't wait for match day, will be there, dressed in green and gold

Enjoy Gena!

Next week is my turn to be at the game...

In 6 weeks it's my turn to be at the game (In Dublin, that is!!!)

Ah, the classic Aussie utility back.
Have fun at the match Gena! I need to start saving for the next Welsh tour down your way.

I think the people in Bloem feel left out. We play 6 Tests at home this year. You would think, 6 franchises, 6 areas, 6 stadiums but no... We play in Soweto as well. Why do we play in Soweto and Jo'burg? One of those fixtures should have been played in Bloem.

Man, the last time the Springboks played in Kimberley was 1903. Why don't give that venue a Test? We played in Witbank and East London, of all places, in 2010 in our matches against Italy. Why don't they schedule a Test in Kimberley, George or Welkom? There's people there as well! Okay, maybe the latter are not the best locations, but Kimberley has not had a Bok test since 1903!!! Ridiculous.

I have witnessed over the years that the Bloem people can't even fill the stadium when they get the opportunity to watch test matches
I do support you on Kimberley though but the stadium is small - maybe a future smaller game, though I think Port Elizabeth will now get preference due to the Kings in the S15

The people in Bloem don't pitch for games so it's their own fault.

On the other hand the people in CT will pitch for anything so we usually get the lesser of the events as the organisers know we'll show up anyways, the ********.

I think one issue is the type of internationals South Africa hosts.
In the NH we host four different nations in November, including some smaller ones. When the SH countries host, it is most often Six Nations teams, which draw a large crowd. If it was a more 'mixed' schedule, then there could be more opportunities to bring games elsewhere.

Ah yes, because it's so much fun to see 20 000 of those Cape Town Fans at the game wearing All Black jerseys when the Boks play against England, Scotland, Wales, f*** any team actually...

No real surprises in the Aussie lineup, though it is disappointing that Timani is still unavailable as his phyiscality would have been a bonus versus the Boks. No surprise to see Beale at and Barnes at 15 (in fact I predicted that the moment Cooper was ruled out), and I think it is the right decision. Beale has played his best rugby this year at 10, while Barnes looked very comfortable at fullback last week. I feel Australia really need someone with the potential to set the backline going at 10 versus South Africa (e.g. Cooper or Beale), as they will struggle to beat South Africa playing a conservative game plan (which would happen with Barnes at 10).

Heyneke Meyer has given Goosen free rein to play the way he wants. This is interesting, the conspiraceh! theorists can argue that he is setting Goosen up to fail. I think he wants to see how the kid can perform, at least this means we'll see less boring up and unders. Except from Pienaar/Kirchner.

This will be a very interesting match. I can't wait, we're going to smash them ozzies.

Link to this info?
Or is it just based on the general comment that HM always says something along the lines of "I always encourage players to play there natural game."

I don't think it's a conspiracy to force a player not to play a style that doesn't suit them :p.

Taute goes at 13, JdV to 12. Coenie gets replaced by Cilliers on the bench.

How good is Taute at outside center?

SomeOke, yep he said something along the lines of giving Goosen (and every player) a carte blanche to play as he sees fit or something like that.

Yes!
That's excellent news, I don't think Frans has been terrible exactly, but this gives JDV one last chance to prove he's still got gas in the tank at his preferred position, while giving a real talent a run, potentially Frans and Taute are our future centre pairing so blood him as soon as possible (at the moment I would actually prefer Whitehead and Taute but w/e).

Best side we've put up in ages, I wasn't even upset when we drew vs Argentina or lost in Australasia but I'll be heartbroken if we lose tomorrow.
