Rugby '15 announced

Nothing as yet, but we're two weeks away from E3 (June 10th-12th), where information is guaranteed, so I'd expect nothing for a few weeks then a big splurge, including screenshots and/or footage, all at once in early June.

I was thinking, has a Rugby game ever used E3 to showcase itself? E3 is HUGE, so its pretty promising to see them using it as a platform to get themselves out there. Obviously I can't see them being anywhere near the main stages, but still looks hopeful!

OMG just found this New Rugby game was coming out, what a wonderful surprise. Hopefully they have Super rugby in it

For the sake of everyone on this forum let's hope it gets shown at E3

Conversely, my worry is that nobody'll pay any attention to Rugby '15 at E3 and it'll get swept away in the crowds.

I'm surprised they're going to E3 at all.
These days it's all about how much money the AAA games/developers/publishers can throw into flashy shows rather than a true game expo.
If they don't have a decent playable build there then they'll be swept under the carpet completely, maybe getting a line in a "also there" column in a magazine.

HB Studios did a couple things correct. But the rucking part of the game was not one of them. Sidhe has an excellent rucking/ breakdown system after the patch. If they added more rucking penalties. You would have an almost perfect system. I hated HB Studios three men every time in the ruck button mash. Having an automatic three men in the ruck every time is a great injustice to rugby.
Don't get me started on the rucks

. If they rehash Rugby World Cup 2011 but with more licenses it will be a great disappointment.

HB Studios please take notes on Sidhe rucking system. Holding on to the ball, quick to the break down stand up and steal the ball(challenge)' adding and removing players from the ruck, adding players to hold possession adding players to take possession (quick vs heavy bind). (many different rucking strategies, you can switch on the fly). ( although many people do not take the time to learn these

I disagree. The breakdown doesn't feel like rucking, but it helps the game feel like rucking. The ability to generate quick ball, something that is virtually never possible in Rugby Challenge, means you can determine how you want to play the game. Instead, in RC, it's so slow the only way the opposition won't have re-aligned is if they put too many players in. I like the RC system in theory, but it doesn't work in the context of a game. I'd like to see them find a balance, whereby you have other options, but can just stick a handful players in to secure the ball/context. Maybe never lock the ball to one side, making it more fluid, meaning the moment the 9 turns up the ball is playable, but the other side can still turn it over if they continue to throw bodies at it.

Past Ruby games positives

Actually, if HB Studios really paid attention to the recent Rugby and Rugby League games and took from each the best qualities , we would really have a great Rugby game.
From Rugby Challenge 1 and 2.
1.Fairly good on field kicking system.(need better animation though)
2. Good offload system (minus AI tendency to offload so much)
3. Rucking (add players, remove players, different type of binds to the ruck, stand up an attempt steal after tackle(awesome), holding on to the ball if you get isolated(fantastic stuff) after the patch you(can play the game how you want to play = more ball retention or more turnovers depending on slideres. Awesome rucking formations, rucking strategies, (problem here is many people didn't take the time to learn what each does and annoying bug that would not allow for strategies to come up.
4. Pretty good feel for players momentum in tackles and break tackles
5. Best Mauls, can be improved though (need a set play to attempt set up maul in regular play)
6. Scrums (over all push was much improved in rugby challenge 2) (but added hooking mechanism needed)
7. Maul option at lineouts
RWC 2011
1. Rucking penalties
2. Forward play
3. Players holding position better ( although, this may happen because only three players are added to the Ruck every time automatically, no more no less)>
4. Some options for set plays
5. Hooking the ball in scrums ( big part of Rugby)
6. Quick throw ins
7. Ok goal kicking system
Rugby league live 2
1. Best and most fun playing defense in any Rugby game. (High tackle/less chance to offload but more chance to get fended) (low tackle(more chance for offload but less chance to fend of tackle)(desperation tackle= dive tackle) (big hit tackle/more chance to jar ball loose but more difficult to execute).
2. Most offensive moves in a game (side step)(fake side step)(fend) (big offensive hit)
3.An Ok goal kicking system

I am sure there are many more positives from each and will have to make a negative list later, but I like to start out with the positives.
Either way I am concerned, that there has not been a forum for a wishlist for this new game. Unless they have been surfing the RC3 wishlist and RWC 2011 wishlist:p.

*****And I disagree, I play the game on pro and have plenty of quick balls, the problem is people are so accustomed to mashing on buttons, (how are you going to have quick ball when you are adding 4 to 6 players to the ruck every time?? , instead of just adding 1 or 2 players, sometimes heavy, sometimes quick, depending on situation and then pressing the challenge button) most of my rucks on pro have only 1 to 4 player in it you have to play close attention to the surrounding and the tackled players forward momentum. On defense if I think I have no chance sometimes I only have the tackler, I get ready for the next phase( I really like micro managing the rucks in RC 2) and using the different strategies and rucking formations. On offense you can actually hold on to the ball,(risk penalty) to give you players time to arrive. If you isolate someone you can stand up and attempt to steal the ball. Rucking in RC2 is a skill and art. I was one of the first if not the first to point out that in RWC 2011 you had the same 3 man animation every time. Come on, this is not Rugby, RC2 rucking is not perfect, but much more involved and better then RWC 2011 and if anything much more effort has been put into it, just needs some polishing ***** now, in saying this you do have to have the correct slider settings with the patch to get the best affect. The new rucking slider improved the rucking 10 folds.

Sorry guys, but I missed the part where hb studios announced to show rugby 15 at E3 2014. was officially announced?

Back in 2011 HB went to E3 to show RWC 11, however they only had a small booth and didn't show it to the public.

thanks

october/november 2014

I think/theory is they will release Rugby 2014 in October/November but then will release a World Cup Game (game of year edition) for World Cup 2015. Use the same technology to capitalize on 2 games or release paid for downloadable content later. Hopefully this mean they want to make a very good showing in Rugby 2014 to convince us to buy a World Cup game later or buy the download for it. It seems like this type of Model has worked for the Rugby League Live games. My biggest concern are the rucks. (Please (HB do not dum them down for us or make them automatic 3 men in a ruck). The idea Rugby Challenge 2 had for Rucks is good, it just needs some polishing and a little better application. Make the players color coated(maybe the player indicator) and let us decide if we want to quick bind (add backs) or (heavy bind) add forwards) or combo of those (depending on the situation you could send a back into a ruck if the forwards are to far away). The backs could unbind faster. Have an actual individual player stat for rucking with better rucking and contesting the ball the stats would help determine a better chance to steal and less chance to get penalized. The animation for tackling and getting back on your feet to contest the ball must be part of the game, (Sidhe got so little credit for this), the ability to hold on to the ball and an individual stat for this if your isolated (Sidhe did this as well for those of you who haven't noticed), the implementation of this was fairly good, now just have an actual stat for getting away with this holding, or placing the ball to your advantage skill :). And increase rucking and scrum penalties they are such a big part of Rugby. (Have an Arcade mode for those who don't want all this , less penalties, automatic rucks if you must adhere to the casual gamer as well).

Honestly? I hadn't realised that worked, in terms of balancing who commits. I shall try it next time I am back home with my PS3 and copy of the game. I had also spent most of my time with the game with the ruck tackle bonus slider turned down, and I had the impression it was the opposite of what it was (The name implies that it benefits the tackler), so lost the ball on basically every tackle, which was so, so annoying.

Yes, that would be a big problem. But I agree with you, the first time I saw the ruck slider I thought the same thing. It is stuff like this that does annoy me at times, if I was the developer I would want to explain the concept of the additions as much as possible so the fans can get the most out of the game. There is so much involved with this game when comes to rucks, the player mods that are available also help you play a more sim like game due to them adjusting the individual player ratings as well. I have said over and over again, this game needs polishing but everything is there for you to be able to play the game how you like it. Some people like it more acradey others more of a simulation. I will try and post my slider settings. You can increase the offense ball rucking meter:) as I prefer to call it but you must increase the defensive urgency to counter balance it some. Also, remember the remove player from ruck offensively can open up more opportunities for forward play, you can't pass the ball to a forward if they are all smashed into a ruck:) This game can be as simple or as deep as you want to make it, particularly pertaining to rucks. There really should be tutorial to playing this game.
