Rugby '15 announced

Sidhe recently confirmed they have no plans to continue making rugby games at this stage.

Well hopefully they've shipped on all licenses then! It's been the bane of most rugby games so one with everything would be glorious.

I doubt it. You wouldn't advertise a game based on The English and French leagues, but not include the Super Rugby license or the big international sides.

Complete speculation is what we all do in an information vacuum, but anyway he's what I think could happen.

If I had to guess at anything, I'm thinking that Tru Blu may end up collaborating with Big Ant Studios to produce a new rugby game with the licensing emphasis gone and a Rugby Academy where people can download custom players and teams etc. It's worked really well with Cricket and could also do so with Rugby. My understanding is that Big Ant's Rugby League 2 has been selling in decent numbers in proportion to the amount of audience that Rugby League has. I'm not 100% sure the same could be said about the Rugby Challenge game (in proportion to the market available at least). I know it sold well in France and a couple of other places, but that may not have been enough.

If it does end up the case (Big Ant making a Rugby game), I could imagine a release target of somewhere around the second week of September 2015.

My theory is that Tru Blu landed the RWC game, think it through, it has to be in development by now in order to release it before kick off. I have no idea how national team licenses will go if that's the case, I hope they're not longer exclusive so both could have them in, a RWC game has to have every team licensed, at least all of the big boys or it will fail like 2011. Worst case, R15 is exclusively a club game, hopefully fully licensed.

From memory, didn't Mario say that Tru Blu's exclusive licenses lasts for 4 years? Someone can correct me on that... If so, Tru Blu's licenses should be nearing it's end.

Exclusivity sucks for us consumers. Wish both Publishers could just share the licenses.

Never heard that one Ninja, and I spent a lot of time in Sidhe's forum. They must have a use it or lose it clause in the contract when someone else is interested.

Sidhe have pretty much stated that they are done with Rugby Challenge, and indeed console gaming. They did hint that somebody else might be working on one, if I read it correctly.

Which (if it does work out that way) would more or less line up with what I said earlier. With Big Ant or the only other sports ***le developer that seems to be affiliated with Tru Blu - Wicked Witch.

Whether or not they have a World Cup license, it's more than possible Tru Blu will release a rugby ***le in the next 12-15 months with the World Cup being a potentially lucrative reason. As it stands right now, Big Ant have found a really great license workaround with their Academy system and given that I'd be just as happy with a game licensed or not. Within 2 mins of booting up Don Bradman Cricket I had community created versions all of the best players, teams and competitions in the world and that's not much of a problem to have.

I vaguely remember him saying something along those lines at one point. Perhaps that only applies to some of the licenses they had. It might've just been the Australian & New Zealand teams?

Hopefully they are negotiating the New Zealand, Australia and other International teams now along with Super Rugby, ITM, J-League and the ERC competition. They might get it in the next few weeks

I haven't played Don Bradman Cricket yet. How does the commentary work with unlicensed players when edited with the Academy system? Is it similar to Rugby Challenge where there is a big library of surnames and if it matches up, the commentary will refer to that player by that surname?

Has anyone actually been in the booth and played the game or even took a picture of something happening onscreen?

There's lots more Rugby 15 pages on google now but seems to be the same sort of stuff.

It's 00:39am in L.A now on the last day of E3 (as far as I can tell) so I'm hoping by 8-9 o'clock tonight we may hear something, unless they write it up tonight and post it tomorrow.

Just about every player's name is covered. Download Cricket Academy and have a look. It's a great game.

Two games

Does not everything point towards two games? Mario(Sidhe) it seems already hinted there may be something in the works with Tru Blu (buy not by Sidhe), meaning, Big Ant or Wicked Witch, my hunch is Wicked Witch because I ****think*** in some post I read Mario say not necessarily Big Ant. And now we have Big Ben an Hb studios confirming they already have a game. Hopefully we don't have a split of licenses again, but unfortunately it is looking that way. Although if both games can be customized then it may be a win win situation, we get two Rugby Games. I am more concerned about them being able to be customized then the actual licensing. Licensing is nice but a couple months down the road , most of us on these forums are playing and advanced edited version:).

Cheers and Salud

Well.. This has been disappointing.

I assumed Rugby 15 was going to be one of their headline products the way they worded the below statement.

"Come and discover the incredible Christmas Line up with Rugby 15 as well as the latest Gaming Accessories, designed by the European leader of mobile & gaming peripherals"

Have they been twiddling their thumbs with no audience for the last 2 days? :(

Considering the AAA ***les that are being announced, and even the indie developers/games with huge fanbases, at E3 I wouldn't be surprised if we heard nothing until after it's all wrapped up and HB put out their own press releases with all of the E3 info in. Rugby/rugby games really aren't that big of a market, especially at an event like E3.
