Rugby 08 video thread

One thing I cant quite understand, with them actually doing very little to the game why didnt they just knock up an xbox version as well? xbox 06 was far better than ps2 and so going to 08 on ps2 was always going to feel somewhat like a 2 steps forwards and 1 step backwards for me.

thanx, looks like they did f*** all except improve the look of the stadiums. Plus theres a shitload of stars. Im still buying it. [/b]

Yep EA didn't bother to go out of their way to make Rugby 08 a better game than 06.From what I can see nothing much changed but the stadiums and views. So that's the improvement EA made. Not sure about the AI but we can check on that when we get the game.Let's hope that there's more to the game than what the eye can tell. :bravo:

The main reason I think would be the level of piracy on the thing, too easy to get a hard drive and copy the game after just renting or borrowing it.

The 360 version could be released around World Cup time.

Funny though, Madden 08 is being developed for Xbox but that is far more popular.

Looking at that video, I can't see much differene between that an rugby 06. One last hurrah for the old game engine, I guess.

Its defintiely just rugby 06 with a few tweaks - problem is I'm really bored of 06! maybe rugby 09 will be a big step forward

looks the same as r2006 - very poor

10 years on and JLR is still the best

hey lox, you mentioned the graphics of rugby 08 being on par with rugby 2004 on the other thread.

yet it seems same as rugby 06 from the grainy video. can you elaborate on this. I find it shocking that the game has taken a step backwards graphics wise.

also was it the AI that carved you up in the end of the video to score the try or was it a human player? (gareth thomas i think it was)

Its strange, some of the graphics close up look ok, but in other parts they are really jaggy and not smoothed out pretty much as they were in 04. However one thing you have to take into account is that we are both going from pc/xbox back to ps2 here. I hardly touched the ps2 version of 06 and so that could be part of it. It does have a kind of 04 feel to the engine though even to the point where I questioned if this was the same fifa engine as last time. Could it be a new engine to incorporate the new camera features? The animations are all there and its quite responsive so that hasnt changed.

thanks very much for posting the vids and keeping us up to date with features and that. Looks like its wot everyone seems to be saying, a cash in :wall: . Just wanna say, could quite see the pic properly but i'm sure Hook doesn't look like that in real life, i did a better job in 06 creator and mine was utter balls!! quite a few star players as well (I know i'm repeating myself). And did i see gareth thomas run the whole pitch outpasing the whole new zealand team, oooohhh ea naughty naughty. Alfies a great player but never in my life have i seen him outpase a whole team. oh well, looks like i'm gonna be modding my xbox and using whoosah's edotor till it comes out on 360. But i think i'll stil buy it, only cause i've been looking forward for sooo long!!! TWT TWT EA.! :%#%#:

New vid posted up fellas. Check the start of this thread

over 8 minutes long, better quality, varied camera angles.

just watched the new vid (again, thanks lox).

- i like the varied momentum during the kicking meter.

- chase view is god awful. the speed of the game is clearly lacking.
sometimes it appears they go into r*gby 2**4 retardation when catching a pass (i.e. stop/start)

- don't believe that japans kit is licensed. at least the cherry blossom that flashed across the screen wasn't their official union one. maybe in world cup mode... but why would they create two diff kits...

- hover view might be interesting. at least the game is faster and much more fluid.

- the camera zooming out (however far) is a good thing.

- surprised frenchy hoofed it down the pitch that close to being tackled (just after the 7m 30s mark in vid).
i'd almost say for certain that in rugby 06 it wouldn't have happened.

- you can tell this is being played by a league-y. ;)
i yelled for you to offload when the try was beckoning.

but you said, "s'alright, s'only t'third t'tackle..."

Cheers for putting the videos up! I'll be buying it for PS2. I disagree...I can see improvements...not massive ones, but definitely looks a bit better.

Seems pretty much the same as 06. I'll still probably buy it though. Cheers for the videos.

well i have still yet to see the last vid, looking forward to getting home now to watch it though.

the other two looked ok, the haka was a bit meh why where they jumping? they dont jump any more and it looked pretty much the same as the other two years but this is not about the haka is it.

other than that it looks OK, nothing to intersting though. Hoping that the files are pretty similar for roster editing :)

Found the new video quite enlightening. AIdoesn't have any obvious differences. Although was it played on elite? The fact that it was Japan might not have helped in the showing a quality opposition defence either.

Excellent vid though and thanks for showing so many camera angles. Side view must be the last one to show at some point? Would be perhaps interesting to know what if anything has changed in the options menus too.

Once again thanks for the vids, looks a mixed bag so far.

ah, let me clarify, cause it's a tactic i love:

my point was that after breaking the gain line and then trying to kick into open space, more often than not when the opposition was that close, you could never get the kick away, beit punts or grubbers.

you had to start the kick (animation) a little earlier, in which case they'd almost always get back into a position to defend.

yeah, i was thinking that was lox as france too.
