Robinson's time now coming to an end?

LordHope, i would look to the Southern Hemisphere for his replacement but they would have to have Scott Johnson as assistant or it would be a waste of appointing Johnson as assistant.

I still don't think Robbo is the man for the job, if he's as good as you guys are making out then, why was he sacked as England Manager?

Who is making him out to be a god send? He is by no means the perfect coach, but I highly doubt another coach would have done better with the limited resources on offer. There simply is no perfect coach, all are prone selection quandaries, the odd player mismanagement, strange substitutions, failed gameplans, etc...

You say you would look to the southern hemisphere as though it is the land of milk and honey, who do you think would move from the southern hemisphere to manage Scotland? This is a common problem, people shouting "The sky is falling" without putting forward any possible solution (and simply saying look south isn't any more a solution than me saying we should employ a human being as our coach)

Name a coach, then the debate starts from there.

Edit: And I am not particularily looking forward to Mr Johnson's arrival either.

An odd thing for me is how on earth Scotland has so many good football coaches, but a dearth of competent rugby coaches :?

Scott Johnson is very good at identifying talent and bringing it through which could be quite good for you guys. IMO anything is better than Townsend hes a joke. Im not quite sure on Johnson's "skills" coaching ability though, the Ospreys players haven't really really improved their skills since hes been involved.

Saying 'a southern hemisphere coach' doesn't amount to much though. Who do you have in mind? There aren't many top level coaches who'd be willing to take on the Scotland job imo.

They're still an international union. Im sure they could fork out the money. Martin Johnson was only on around 150,000 and that was with England the richest union in the world. Coaches don't really get payed that much

Alirght, name a mercenary coach with hee-haw knowledge of Scottish rugby that will come up for a meesely pay packet that would replace the life-style he/ she currently has in the south.

We must bear in mind that AR has a contract running to 2015 as well.

A coach that wants to prove himself with an international team perhaps?

Anyway i think you should stick with Robinson hes done a pretty good job in my eyes. You need to get rid of Townsend but it won't happen.

A question for Scotland fans

I have seen a few (in my opinion unwarranted) calls for Robinson to be shown the door at Murrayfield.

Lets assume that Robinson does ride off into the sunset do the fans think that the SRU, the players available for Scotland and the general setup at the moment would be an enticing proposition for an international coach with a reputation which they presumably would like to keep in tact.

Thoughts?

My initial thought is clutter, head over to the Robinson time to go thread or whatever it is called.

Yes i agree with you look at Scotland two three years ago to now much better team, now the players need to perform for Robinson.

For Scotland i believe there under abundance in excellent players comes at grass roots players. I believe in the scottish schools setup there are only two schools who actually compete and win from year to year. This results in clubs cherry picking players from these two schools, players who aren't used to having to battle through a season or really being tested from game to game. Please correct me if I'm wrong for this isn't first hand knowledge.
By looking at other countries, New Zealand, Australia, Wales or England there are many different teams competing for cups and honours and Representative and International honours are usually well spread out throughout schools.
Not wanting to "England Bash" or anything but this is the system i have most knowledge of. From year to year in the Daily Mail Cup there are never the same sides as the year before competing in the final at Twickenham. Hence the success in Youth Development in these particular setups over the world.

to be honest apart from the edinburgh private schools there really isn't that much interest in school rugby. there is much for focus on club rugby. Take it the schools you mean are watson, stew mel, and edinburgh academy

I am right in thinking Robinson signed a new contract this week to take him to the 2015 WC?. Forget that his contract is till 2015, it's not new.

If that is correct I can't see the SRU buying him out, they must be happy with him. His win ratio is as good as any of Scotlands recent coaches, or so I have read.

Andy, is stuck in a rock and a hard place. He is worried that he might get sacked because of the mounting losses. For this reason he is focusing on game plans, but that is because they work for scotland. Scotland has beaten some impressive opponents because of game plans that were followed and executed. The hard place is the team confidence. I think individually every player on the Scotland team has confidence, but the team on the pitch always seems to be worried. For this reason Andy uses game plans and continually picking a similar group of players to better build this confidence and hope for a decrease in errors.

My second remark is the issue I have with Andy (this year specifically), he needs to start making some drastic changes and see if there is some new blood that works... Hogg was Amazing. All said and done Scotland have been playing far better in the last couple of years and AR is the guy that should stay. He just needs to start bringing in the new blood, just like the club teams have done.

This week, after two consecutive losses? :p

I think it was before the world cup or around there

To the people asking who i would replace Robinson with, here is my shortlist of 4 to choose from:- John Kirwan, Rod MacQueen, Wayne Smith and Bryan Redpath.

John Kirwan and Rod MacQueen are both out of work, JK left Japan after RWC and RM was last coach of Melbourne Rebels but WS is assistant at New Zealand and BR is currently coach at Glousester so would take convincing to leave their roles.

I have said a few times on this thread that Kirwan would be my choice with Redpath and MacQueen next if JK wouldn't take Scotland job.

OK let the criticism start :p?

Well, at least with Kirwan Scotland should be able to score tries.
