RBS 6 Nations - Scotland Vs England (04/02/2012 - 17:00)

I don't see why a midfield that received virtually no ball and contained 2 players on debut is suddenly being branded a massive failure.

And I don't see why Callum Clark's name keeps popping up as the man to balance the back row when he's yet another 6 and he's really not yet set the world alight, barring a few fights...

When?

22.1 GROUNDING THE BALL
There are two ways a player can ground the ball:
(a) Player touches the ground with the ball. A player grounds the ball by holding the ball and touching the ground with it, in in-goal. ‘Holding’ means holding in the hand or hands, or in the arm or arms. No downward pressure is required.

(b) Player presses down on the ball. A player grounds the ball when it is on the ground in the in-goal and the player presses down on it with a hand or hands, arm or arms, or the front of the player’s body from waist to neck inclusive.

Hope above helps on try/no try

My Thoughts 2 teams not playing well
1 coach new to job yet to fully get best players best positions should get better
1 coach clueless won't get better.

To be fair I admit I was already against the midfield we put out yesterday, and I just want an excuse to change it. It will take a lot to convince me that farrell should be played in midfield, or for that matter, that englands midfield should be based on that of saracens. england have a deeply engrained habit of playingpeople out of position and i think with farrell at midfield thats something which is unnecessary. lets play him where he actually might end up playing for his career! (10).

regarding clark, i was imprssed by him a few weeks ago with the way he was competing for breakdown ball and felt at the time he might be a reasonable replacement until an actual 7 is available.

Farrell out of position at centre? isn't that where he played all his age grade rugby and now club rugby?

Aye, Farrell is like Olly Barkley (without the go forward) - A 12 who can play 10 adequately well, but is often put at 13 to accommodate other players :p

Once you put your boot on a ball that should be advantage over IMO, but that's another debate for another thread.
The way it's usually referreed (correctly, imo) is that if it is a scrum advantage, then it is over once the ball is used (any kick, a clean ball from a ruck, a meter gained). Penalty advantages are longer. I think the ref should have gone back to the penalty.

Our attack was poor I think. When we did have the ball it was scappy and didn't get very far with it. I think we really need Tuilangi and Flood back to improve our attack. Was a very scrappy win and was lucky we did win, but praise to the English defence. To hold onto a lead with such little possession especially with so many new players is an achievement. After the Italy game I would go with Wood as captain, and get Flood and Tuilangi back for Hodgson and Barritt.

If we do win against Italy at least confidence should be high. Players coming back so it's not all doom and gloom. Not sure Hodgson did much to be dropped from starting against Italy. I have not seen how Flood went in the game yesterday.

I think we'll see Farrell start at 10 with Flood on the bench - Hodgson didn't do anything to deserve being dropped, but when it's him vs Farrell/Flood it'll be him getting dropped every time.

It'll save on the washing up if they play Farrell. No need for shirts 11-15.

Total passes for England yesterday in the region of 72. Probably because we did not see much of the ball.
I hope he drops Youngs it must be clear now his head is not on the game he had. We looked better in the 2nd half with Youngs gone.

Dickson seems to be a good leader as well. In the huddle he was saying a lot and i think he organises the team better than Youngs.
The question is do you go with the skillful or pragmatic approach. Against Italy i think the best is to go all out and attack.

To think I was shot down by you lot for saying how bad Youngs was during the RWC! He was no worse today, which was awful.

His form has gone backwards since the world cup. I would agree now he is the wrong choice but then he was the best choice we had.

And to think you lot shot me down for saying how bad Youngs was during the RWC. He was no worse yesterday, which was awful. Hodgson did well in dealing with him. Might as well play my Gran at 10 if Youngs is at 9.

Putting it perspective, Youngs was replacing Wigglesworth during the world cup - Who is the worst scrum half to wear a rose on his shirt since Shaun Perry - whereas yesterday he was replaced by the excellent Lee Dickson.
