Probably a good game to try some of the fringe players out and work on the future combinations. Can't see Italy offering much other than a fairly competitive forward fight.

Sorry to disagree, but Wales have to be ruthless and rack up the points. Italy have shown they are more than just a pack and have played a more structured game than of old. They were desperately unlucky against England and definitely the better team.

Eh?

Other than the correct "Eh?" from TRF...... Italy have shown nothing in their backs at all. Within 3 or 4 phases they are virtually guaranteed to try and kick and hope something happens. They have gone downhill from recent years when it comes to back play.

I fear for Italy this weekend as I think Ireland are going to take out 3 weeks worth of frustration out on them. The Irish back row and Sexton can own this game early and I envision a 25 point winning margin at least.

I could see us wining fairly comfortably too, a similar score to that in the World Cup. That said, I don't think it would paper over the cracks from an Irish perspective.

Same team again for Italy, I'm shocked, shocked.............................. well not that shocked.

I've never seen less enthusiasm coming up to an international match. Its fair to say its been knocked out of the fans.

Same team again

Ireland team to face Italy at the Aviva Stadium: Rob Kearney (Leinster), Tommy Bowe (Ospreys), Keith Earls (Munster), Gordon D'Arcy (Leinster), Andrew Trimble (Ulster), Jonathan Sexton (Leinster), Conor Murray (Munster); Cian Healy (Leinster), Rory Best (Ulster), Mike Ross (Leinster), Donncha O'Callaghan (Munster), Paul O'Connell (Munster, capt), Stephen Ferris (Ulster), Sean O'Brien (Leinster), Jamie Heaslip (Leinster).
Replacements: Sean Cronin (Leinster), Tom Court (Ulster), Donnacha Ryan (Munster), Peter O'Mahony (Munster), Eoin Reddan (Leinster), Ronan O'Gara (Munster), Fergus McFadden (Leinster).

This match is about as close to a "nothing" match possible in the 6 nations for Ireland.

It should be used as an opportunity to give players like McFadden, O'Malley and Ryan run outs to get them up to International standard and ready for the next couple years when Kidney finally realises D'Arcy and O'Callaghan are past it and when O'Driscoll retires but Kidney picks this XV and therefore the result doesn't really matter.

This 6 Nations just keeps getting worse for Ireland to be honest, Starting with a loss at home to Wales where although we had the players our game plan was completely wrong and for us to progress we change our style. Then our next match was postponed meaning that focus was lost and now we must play 4 games in a row. Then this Italy match is basically a lose, lose situation and its seems that no one even cares for the match.

Surprised that O'Callaghan in particular kept his place... also if there is a match to 'try things out' this is it but no. I guess Kidney feels his players deserve a chance to make up for the defeat to Wales. Even though Kidney delivered the holy grail of a long deserved grand slam, unless he starts shaking things up this could be his last 6N with Ireland...

I think one of the main problems for us is that we're usually a very reactive team and not proactive. In our great performances we come in at a level and force the other team to raise their level or lose. One reason why N.Z. are so good is their level of intensity for everything is set to such a high standard every time and force the other team to raise theirs. We play the opposition it's why we never do any huge thrashings. We wait and see what the other teams gonna do before we act. Obviously you do need to see what the other team is doing but if you can force the other team to react to need to react to you then you are doing stuff right.
