No my level option or anything???.

Maybe Radman needs to play the game a bit or something or play some random people online under "quick unranked match" in order to have a skill level.

I think it might be better to meet people under "my country" as my skill level may seem harder to find each other if one of us gets too skillful for everyone else.

I did find Radman on "My country" but we could not connect.....strangely me and woosaah are connecting...maybe it is my connection lol!

woosaah and I played a couple of games last night....gee woosaah.....it is amazing how a couple of games of practice and suddenly you were better! The first one I won but the second one was a real classic:

5 mins into the game and my goalie feteches the ball outside the penalty box near the corner flag. He dribbles it a bit and passes to a defender. woosaah's striker comes out of nowhere and takes the ball off my defender and from the sideline shoots at goal with my goalie stranded away from his goal....1 nil to woosaah!

The rest of the half I press forward desperately trying to search for the equaliser with woosaah predictably tightening his defence. His goalie saves shot after shot and with all my players going forward he creates some scoring chances of his own on the counter attack. Haltime score 1 nil to woosaah.

Halftime some furiously fast texting hint towards an equaling fast second half in store for both of us.

The second half starts and it is again I who desperately pushes forward in search of the equaliser. woosaah defends chance after chance and he almost scores a few times himself with his counter attacks. I am rushing my goalie a few times to cut down his angle on what would almost certainly be a definite goal otherwise. Time is ticking away and the tension is increasing as the minutes get closer to fulltime. Uncharacteristic mistakes are being forced as both of us start throwing cautiion to the wind with my attacks and woosaahs defence and counter attacks. Finally the time reaches 90 minutes and it looks like it is all lost for me as i have squandered dearly all my chances.

Then suddenly in the 91st minute woosaah strangely has a lapse in his defence. One of his central defenders as pushed forward a bit too far off the penalty box and left the small hole. Rivaldo in my team chances his arm with what may be a 50/50 through ball for Manuco. Incredibly woosaah's other central defender is too busy looking for the outside ball and DOES NOT COVER Manuco's run. Manuco gets the ball at speed under pressure from woosaahs cover defence as he slides through the half gap. The cover defence from the left squeezes on Manuco and just at the crucial time to tackle, Mauco angles his run to slightly right to give him a few yards of breathing space as he enters the box. woosaah chooses NOT to rush his goalie and instead puts his faith in his cover taking out Manuco. His cover gets to Manuco and moves in for the tackle but not before Manuco shoots the only angle avaliable for him to shoot...down the line to the right post. The shot is released and both woosaah and I watch with hearts in out mouths as the ball travels towards the goal....the goalie dives....it beats the goalie....the ball careers on the ground towards the post and.....sneaks inside into the net....GOAL! The equalising goal in the 91st minute!

Fulltime and more hilarious text messages before the extra time resumes play with woosaah calling me a *******!

Extra time is again the thrust and parry football from both sides though a little more subdued as both sides are more cautious about leaving their back exposed. A few chances for the both of us but great defence by the keepers.

Finally it is penalty shootout and the third game that me and woosaah have entered with a penalty shootout to determine the result. The two previous times had us one all. This again has us both searching for the save and both of us saving a goal each as we guess the others mind. Then in the sixth shot my goalee decides to place himself to the right...it is the RIGHT choice as he saves the goal...ATHENS IS VICTORIOUS!

Looking forward to a game again woosaah.......hopefully you are too busy to practice playing hehe...

haha yeah that was the best match i have played :) was great stuff.

my goal was just a fluke, i saw your goalie trying to get back into goal and i had no choice, most of the time if i shoot from there it either misses by a mile (like goes straight instead of the angle) or goes miles over the top. but it was lucky and i am glad i took the chance while it was offered :)

that goal you scored i tried to get my goalie up but it was just too little too late. but what a great game :)

good stuff man, i was msn'ing craig at the same time and he was kept up with the play :D

Yes, I was listening in wishing I had my connection sorted out! Sounds like you two are quite an even match-up with GG taking the crucial opportunities maybe 10% more of the time.

As for Radman. I'd be interested to know if what his broadband speed is and what mode/router he has. If it's a belkin, I'm not alone with Fifa troubles!

My modem is a d-link dsl-504g router modem. My speeds are 250 odd down 120 odd up, am switching to telstraclear on thursday, speeds should be heaps better than Telecoms as it is through cable.

As for the game, I guess I just have to play more and get my skill level up, I managed to get one online unranked game in and lost 3 - 0.

I'm still getting the hang of this game, it plays so much more realistic, I'm so used to just bursting up the sideline and putting a cross in, now it is all about possesion, timing and skill, which is gonna take me a while to come to grips with.

I think I've discovered the problem then. You and I are both on the 256kb/s plans at the moment Radman. I'm thinking that this'll be the reason that we are having problems connecting on Fifa. Both Woosaah and GG have 2mbps plans from what I hear.

Even when GG's goes over his limit for the month, his would still slow down to faster than ours, well more than likely anyway.

Hopefully you and I will do so much better with connecting to people when we both go for new faster plans too.

Losing 3 nil isn't bad at all.

I used to lose 5 nil all the time lol!

When you play against the really good guys it is so hard to get the ball off them and it is also so hard to get upfield with the ball.

Ok I am still a bit of an amateur at this game....but I am slowly making progress with online games and aren't getting thrashed to pieces. I never care about winning....I just want to play where it looks like my team has "control"....the beauty of the game as opposed to winning at any cost...especially if it ugly winning.

I first wanted to play this game with manual passing...however this seemed way to difficult and often the ball did not go quick enough if you did a short pass. I tried semi and it seemed ok for a bit...however when I tried assisted not only were my passes nice and crisp...but they were also more invented that what I would have wanted. So I realised I would be better sticking with assisted on my ground passes.

After playing with assisted for a little while I realised I DID actually at times want to put the ball into space rather than put the ball onto someones foot. Especially with passes forward where I wanted the strikers to not stand there and wait for the ball but to actually come back and get it if I out the ball just short of the defensive line...this sadly I could not do with passes on Assisted or even Semi Assisted.

I also did not like my through balls as many times on Assisted they were actually stopped or went through in a direction I did not really want. My lobbed through balls often went into places I did not want...it was too random. I did like using through balls in general play especially with one-twos.

THEN I DISCOVERED!

I decided to set my through balls on manual (well you only get two choices) thinking that if it is a true manual through ball it would mean MANUAL IN ANY DIRECTION. My suspicions were correct...the through ball became a manual ball in any direction with any chosen power...that is backwards, sideways etc. This means it is actually a MANUAL PASS! Now I have BOTH assisted and manual passes to choose from depending on the situation. I get the best of both worlds! For instance if I am running up from the midfield and getting closed down from the sides and behind and the only pass option is to pass forward to the waith strikers near the box I don't have to do the predictable assisted pass which leaves for some strange reason the strikers standing there unable to move back to get the ball whilst the defenders move towards the ball and intecept. Now I can do the manual through ball pass (triangle) because I can play it short of the box as I have noticed you can convert to any reciever you want and CONTROL them IMMEDIATELY with a manual pass. So my strikers can come back away from the box to get the ball instead of standing there like dummies waiting for it to arrive. In actual fact I can do this in any situation especially when any of my recievers are not in the best situation to recieve and may have a defender pressing on them...I just do a manual pass that falls short and because I can convert QUICKER to the reciever and the reciever is not programmed (assisted) to stand that little bit longer before having to rush back for the ball I can get here ahead of the defender! The "manual" pass gives me the option of having control of the reciever....a problem which I know a few people have posted about FIFA and the seemingly inability to control the reciever as they watch helplessly a defender move to the ball first. Other frustrating situations on FIFA08 like the one-two setup which never seems to work the way you want it because the passer can sometimes be too slow going forward can now be solved by simply doing a little ball into space for him to run onto even if he is not forward. For instance with the assisted pass if you pass to a guy forward and then run forward but your reciever is being squeezed and needs to pass it early what will normally happen is that you will pass a ball at the original guy who has not made it forward and there is a defender standing in the way because it is an assisted pass. With the manual through pass you just do a little tap into the space for him to run forward into the WAY you actually want it to go.

But wait there's more! It is not only ground passes that you have control over...the manual through ball pass also applies to the lobbed through ball. so now I can control the lobs in any direction with any power by holding down the R1 when I push triangle. This is good down the tram lines doing a long lobbed through pass from inside your half to a striker out of the picture who you can control (obviously) and pushing him forward out of camera shot...so when the ball lands down the line around the edges of the box and your striker is pushing forwad after it rather than waiting to recieve the more erratic standard lob pass it looks like a planned move that would only happen in real soccer on tv. your opponent will be thinking "Watching this guy play is like watching soccer on tv". In general play you can do a pass into space and CHOOSE when your reciever wants to pick up the ball,,,basically you can let it run for a bit like in REAL LIFE. I do this a bit at the back when m boys are passing it around just to make my opponent think "What the hell this looks like real life". He may think when I pass the ball around into space a bit ahead of my reciever that I have "manual" ground passes on and will think "This guy must be really good to play with manual passes" and then he will think "OMG he is amazing" when I pass sharper and tighter in the midfield with the assisted passes whilst he thinks I am still on manual :lol2tn:

However I just started this yesterday so there is still a learning curve going on. I have had to sacrifice a bit of my game (relying on assisted through balls in the midfield) but I am sure when I get a better grip on it I will have a more rounded game and would have conquered some of the programming curses that come with assisted passes such as waiting to long for the ball. So in short I will have the best of both worlds, more dynamic passes to players unmarked and beautiful placed passes to my players who are marked tightly.

Impressed GG, not surprised, but impressed at your evaluation of another video game. You really display a propensity for dissecting a game to it's finer points. You've caught up and possibly passed a lot of players with only having played the game for a relatively short period of time.

yeah thats nuts gg, i wish i had enough time to do that :) ill get back onto fifa once i have had enough of gta, will be fun :) hopefully craig can sort out his connection soon

I've got my router, it's not making any difference. I'm still waiting for my modem. Due tomorrow or Saturday. I'm going to increase my plan as Radman has too. By Monday it'll all be full steam ahead!

Gee thanks dobrien...well obviously I am still a bit clumsy with FIFA 08 and am still learning to play it properly but I suppose I can't help myself trying to bend the rules of the programmers which may be restricting us gamers. I actually believe it of not today may have had my first "animation cancelling" discovery on this game (lol this sounds like Rugby06 all over again) where I can get the passes out quicker after trapping first (not talking about the pre pass option of first touch passing but actually trapping it first). Yeah...well I better get on the game and experiment it a bit more because a lot of times we want immediate passes but due to direction and more specifically a change of direction this comes out at times a bit delayed...however I think there may be an animation cancelling technique to get rid of this delay. I just got to get off the net and watching stuff on sky and go back to the game hehe...

More playing on this game today and my original perception of it being a dud returns. I can imagine that if this was like Rugby as in the ONLY footie game on the market....then sure enough we would all be perservering at it trying to make best of a dud game. However it is not so I think ultimately I am just waiting for a go at UEFA EURO 08.

Woohoo won my first online game against Mancester United at Old Trafford today woohoo!

Ok so I know there are some people that are useless at playing even with Manchester United. However this guy was not one of them...he was fair dinkum serious and I could tell by his passes that he definitely knew what he was doing....but I dunno....I think when I cracked his defence with the first movement and almost scored what should have been a clear goal I realised that this might be my day. He was lucky to score the only goal in the first half through the sheer pace of the Mancester United players.

The second half I felt like I was defending better by watching my flanks a bit more closely in case Ronaldo, Rooney and Co tried to gas it down there and send the cross in. My opponent was getting a bit rustrated and I think a bit shocked as I hung off a bit and went looking for the intercept and only pressing the man when the pass was on its way.

I was pleased with my team (AEK ATHENS) and the way I am getting to know them and I think my passes into the spaces where I know my players will eventually be must have spooked my oppponent.

Eventually in the 60 something minute I scored off a rebound from a shot which must have looked agonisingly tragic for my opponent as my player had to run a fair bit to get the rebound and turn and shoot into the open goal. He must have been tragically wishing for Van Der Sar to get back in goal but to no avail haha!

Then in the 80 something minute I crossed the ball in to a player unmarked but I must have been too slow heading what would have been the winner and my player simply chested it to his feet...by the time I got the shot off he had a defender on me and it was blocked but it fell to the outside of my striker who turned and slid it inside the side post like a skilled lover defrocking a virgin....2-1 to me!

The closing stages of the game he tried everything to get a goal but my guys were equal to the task on defence and when in the 90th minute of the game he blocked a crosss from me and the ball went out he exited the game! Talk about too scared to see his defeat lol!

At the beginning of the game the commentator was talking about how good Mancester were and how they were expected to win. However as the game started to end the commentator starting to go on about my teams chemistry and how we had really gelled together. I have never heard this before!!!

Anyway...Craig and woosaah played each other last night. When are we gonna have the official match version boys?????

yeah we could set it up now no problem, i just re-aranged my lounge today and cant get my cables to work properly for the tv so i just need to sort that out and ill be good.

Maybe just have it set up and when we see each other online give the others a text saying "game time" or something like that.

i need Radmans cell i think :) just in case.

Craig had a few problems but once we were connected it was fine. Didnt take that much to have a game connected, not too much fluffing about. And he kicked my ass twice... *******.

That's a bit kind really. In the first one you really were up against it. I was so happy to be connected that I continued with Liverpool, not realising you had the half star less Blackburn Rovers. 3-0 was a little bit lucky as two goals were penalties. You defended admirably for 75 of the minutes of play. The other 15 just cost you.

I think this has the potential to be an awesome competition.

Shall one of you two set up an online comp (small one to start off with) and then give the comp name and password to the other two via PM?

This comp can be just to knock out the problems. Not an overly serious one.

can you save replays, i should have saved that bicycle kick

OMG what a goal

*i still lost 3-1 but meh, i scored that time*

Well I played Radman on Thursday...we had one game...he was Wellington and I was Adelaide I think. Gee he said he was useless but I say WHATEVER lol! The amount of chances he had to put the ball into my net the score should have been 3 - 0....but he kept missing lol! I was having a terrible time at the other end too so the score at fulltime was 0 - 0. In overtime I finally managed to convert my chances and scored twice (much to my relief) so there was no penalty shootout. But I think Radmans ideas that he a complete noob at this game...well....haha...I say if you own a PS3 that you bought with your money and not your mums then you are a pretty serious gamer and therefore can play......which Rad can.

BTW I don't think I will want to play with those one and a half star teams again lol! Talk about soccer on an ice skating rink ha! Everything felt so slow and slippery!

Well that just leaves me and you Craig to meet and woosaah and Rad as well. ..should be good and I know Craig you want to kick my ass after COD4....just remember soccer is a kicking balls game not kicking ass.
