Pre-Season 21/22

i rate Borthwick highly...think he'll do a great job reviving the Tigers...before he takes over the helm with England.

Bristol are playing 2 pre season games both behind closed doors. One is a full Bear on Bear affair the other I think is vs Hartpury.

Its a tall pack...effectively 4 locks.

Martin at 8 is a curious one.
That's Eddie's influence on Borthwick, I joke.

But Martin at 8 is odd, I wondered this season where he would end up (lock or backrow). He could be an England player again but not sure what his point of difference is at the moment, probably need to watch him some more.

Maybe Tigers are short of 8's at the moment. due to internationals etc.

Martin has bee playing 6 all the time and maybe can cover 8 in this preseason work out. They're more about fitness initially anyway.

I wonder if George is earmarked to 6 for long term? He has a tremendous workrate and tackle rate. LIneout option and developing his carrying.

Think this is it more than anything, tbh
They've drafted in Gareth Evans on loan to cover the gap, but he won't be up to speed yet

I reckon he will - not sure what his stats say but he doesn't look the right size/shape for a second row (yet? could bulk up a lot - he's only young)

Edit: Same height at Maro and over a stone heaver - surprised at that

We have
Wiese (with SA)
Brink (coming back from a big injury)
Liebenberg (not being used in this game)
Davies (just signed as cover)

No academy 8's really
Thom Smith more a 6
Ilione a 6/7 and also injured

Geroge Martin could easily go up to just shy of 20 stone...he looks a big unit. If he continues his work rate ability, and his tackle rate...and brings on the carrying ability he had at U20 level then he will be a formidable unit at 6 or lock...

Id rather he settle at one though...rather than like Lawes moving between them .

Yep. For the time being, I think he'll be mostly used in the back row. With Wiese and van Staden unavailable until after the AIs, Tigers are lighter on back row options than they are at lock where Wells, Green, Snyman and Henderson can all play.

My assumption is that their starting back row for the first half of the season will be three from Liebenberg, Martin, Reffell and Brink with the fourth on the bench. Evans is solid cover, but as he's only on a short term deal, I suspect he's there as back up unless he really impresses.

We've added a game vs Treviso to our pre-season, so I'm happy with that

@Dan Kelly is Irish did you watch the Tigers vs Jersey game?
Not sure whether to buy ours this weekend, seen some people say there were issues with the stream

I did.
Stream didn't work got emailed a link to a unlisted youtube stream of it.
Stream was alright, wasn't HD though.

Would I buy it again, maybe. Game was atypical preseason one, and the video quality alone certainly wasn't worth it.
Depends on how keen you are to watch Sale.

Cheers,
I'll see how I feel about it on Saturday - £10 is pretty steep for a VHS quality pre-season, but equally clubs need it etc.

That was my feeling as well.
Championship teams got messed about with pretty hard least, £10 to them as opposed to something else made sense

Any Chiefs fans able to comment what they think will happen with Josh Hodge this season. ?

'i thought those two would be pushing for International recognition by this point but kind of fallen off the ladder. Bit Mills at Wasps... the mystery man.
