glad to have you back mate. some good choices in games too. the ign wii guys were very impressed by uncharted: Drakes fortune.
oh and you will love this one of my mates I know from a pc game we play online just bought a ps3 a few weeks back mainly because of assasin's creed. now everytime he goes into a gaming shop he wants to buy ps3 games

Oh yeah, played Assassin's Creed for a while. It's good, although running pretty buggy on some peoples PS3's (a 2nd patch needed for those guys). I like it although would've like the story to be more straight out medieval, not so much future/past stuff.

Still an awesome achievement for next gen consoles.

I'm glad to hear someone you know has got a PS3. As much as I'm going to get an Xbox 360 during '08 at sometime, I still think the PS3 has a lot to offer too. Every month I've owned it I've been gradually more happy with it.

I think I've come back to TRF this time with a "one last try" attitude.

Anyhow, lets see how things go. Maybe like the PS3 it'll get gradually get better again.

Rugby 06 on Xbox 360 is the only way to get your next-gen fix (via backward compatability). Being as Sony stupidly removed the backward compatability from the PS3. In other words, the best and most up-to-date version available is on the PC with Rugby 08.

However, odds are something will surface about a next gem new game over the next 18 months.

If you buy a 60 or 80gb PS3 then you can play PS2 games. Although all PS3's are still backwards compatible with the PS1.

Sony had to remove backwards compatibility on the 40gb model that is currently out due to the high cost of producing the emotion chip. This chip is the most expensive part of the PS2, basically being the engine. This may be stupid to many, but how many of us are playing PS1 games today? That will be the case with PS2 in about 2 and a half years.

I play Rugby '08 on my 60gb PS3. Also, 60gb PS3's can be picked up second hand with a warranty for the price of a brand new 40gb model.

also where would one pick up a second hand 60GB that you are talking about?

hmm, great questions.

Firstly, the 80gb model is/was (is in the process of becoming a deleted model) an American model. It was one of the first types released and is 100% backwards compatible with all PS2 ***les.

The 60gb model was the type first sold in NZ and in other Pal regions, it is also backwards compatible with PS2 ***les although it's not 100% compatible. More like 95% compatible, as older ***les sometimes struggle and thats really old ***les.

I would pick up a second-hand 60gb PS3 from Trade Me (of course only off an extremely reliable trader, or one you could pick up from and view it going).

Or I would go to a local second hand electronics dealer, who may offer a limited warranty (or full if it comes with it). Someone of the Cash Converters or similar would do.

We have two PS2's in our household, my 60gb model and my tenant's 40gb model. He's never been bothered that he hasn't been able to play any PS2 ***les, at all.

I have about 30 PS2 ***les and I am finding week by week that backwards compatibility means very little to me. I've owned my PS3 for nearly eight months and I've maybe played PS2 ***les 20 times and of those times about 10 of them were in the first two months.

Once you start playing next-gen ***les, they really do start becoming the predominant game type you play.

Hmm, consumer issues. That's a good question.

I have found that during my time checking out some PS3 forums and PS3 news on the internet, that maybe 1-2% of people experience any relevant serious issues with their PS3's. They seem to have the same good replacement experiences that I have heard of from Xbox 360 users.

Issues I have found? Well, I have had my PS3 lock up or freeze/crash about 4 times. Each time a simple reset is all I've had to do. This has never happened in a game, it has only happened to me during my usage of the XMB (Xross Media Bar).

Still racking my brains for other noteworthy problems, but there really aren't many.

I am soon going to replace my hard drive with a 2.5" 160gb Seagate Momentus HDD, as I am running out of space with my 60 gb and only have 10gb free as of now.

Just cracked up at that. You can have the PS3 permanently connected wired through a router to your computer or wirelessly, so you can use a computer in your house as a server.

So, if I wanted to use my PS3 for pornography, I have an all you can eat buffet via my tenants computer which is linked to my PS3 as well as my computer. He's got about 9 or 10gbs of the stuff. No need for me to clutter my PS3 with it.

Well, how did I fill up most of my PS3? There's about 7gb of save game data on it, about 9gb of music, about 2gb of photos, 10gb's of full games, 3gb's of demo's, 14gbs of music videos and movies and the PS3 takes up 5gb's of a 60gb drive when formatting.

So that leaves my 10gb free.

And yes, Woosaah, you can use it as a home media centre, it plays many codecs, including MPEG-2 and Divx amongst others with more support coming in future firmware upgrades.

First couple of games? I'd suggest Uncharted: Drakes Fortune is a lot of fun, seeing as you like Tomb Raider a bit. It's like a cross between Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider with a modern twist. I also liked playing through Resistance: Fall Of Man and Call Of Duty 4 too. There's a lot of ***les for different tastes out now though.

Can the PS3 be networked to your pc, so you can stream your movies/music etc off it's hard drive, freeing up the ps3's?

Yep. The computer is where I keep most of my stuff. I just like keeping a lot of my music and videos on it directly. That way I can keep it in more swiftly available playlists and right there on my media bar.

I could do it more efficiently than I am, but to be honest it's a little easier than sorting through all the audio and visual folders on my computer.
