Official Super League 2006 Thread

I see. Well, sounds great if you ask me (a better position, a new improved capacity and perhaps other facilities) , unless you are not a conservative type who doesn`t want to leave the `old` stadium due to the history and the faboulos moments spent there! Current stadium, how old it is? What will happen after you move from there? Will be still used as a training ground and leased to other teams or it will be demolished and a new mall will rise there?

Oh no... in the 1980's, Wigan were the only professional team. We all played rugby league, but their team were the only ones who were paid and trained full time. They could buy the best players and were of course the best team.

But they crow about winning everything in sight when they were the only ones who had a realistic chance.
That's not true. Wigan went full-time in 1994.

I bet that made StHelen cry a lot  :D  :bravo: Good on you, Cherries  :D

Correct me if i`m wrong but all what`s important is to kick their arses, smth like"we can relegate as long as we kick St Helen arses"  :D
Not really, Wigan were deserving champions that season. [/b]
Bradford won that season (1997). Saints won the challenge cup. However you are correct in one respect, we did win the Premiership.

I'm sure that result was in 1998.

You were still throwing monet at your team through the mid and late 80's, which is why you were the best.

Along comes Super League and BOOM, the dream is over.

I`m looking at the Wigan Stadium (from Rob signature / userbar) and it looks nice but old, not to mention the pillars supporting the roofs are nowhere to be trusted. Very dangerous if you ask me - from what i`ve seen in the pic.

How come they didn`t `throw` money in the stadium, isn`t that considered a neccessary investment ?

It helps when they have a rich chairman and a supermarket buys their old ground....

Perhaps, but doesn`t it hurts to know that where legends played super games in the past now there is a mall ?

It will hurt Rob - I personally have nothing but bad memories of Central Park, I was delighted to see the back of it!

I went to the first page to see when are you playing Wigan. Hehe, two weeks from today :D

It was 1997, we were wearing this classy little number.

They certainly were. They have a big injury crisis. But unlike Wigan, they don't moan about it to the whole world.

Salford are doing well. I hate them, but fair play. As for Wigan, they are in freefall. I'm sure if they finish bottom they will break the rules to ensure they stay in the division. They didn't get as big a hammering by the Dulls as I was hoping for though.

Why do you hate Salford? Is it smth that has to do with the rivlary between supporters or what? I can understand your dispute with Wigan, but Salford?

More to do with football and just locality - I just don't like most Mancunians. And their ground, The Willows, is a horrible hole.
