NRL's star, Jarryd Hayne to the NFL

He already won the world cup last year.

Be interesting to see if/how he gets on. Big risk going there with nothing set in stone, though if he can get trials at a few clubs then more power to him.
Apparently he trained as a Wide Receiver and Safety, with a University side in Sydney a year or two ago - led to him being offered a trial at an NFL side but it clashed with Roos commitments.

Crazy! Good luck to him I guess but I don't think the skill-sets are transferable enough..

Yep same here, in fact the authors of that article already made an error in listing his tall height compared to other running backs in the NFL as an advantage...it isn't nessecarily. In fact NFL RB's the trend has been to smaller more agile running backs with lower centre of gravity in recent years.

In Canada he'd be great for the Slotback position which is sort of a hybrid between Wide Receiver's and Tight-Ends, but it's essentially unheard of in the NFL due to the smaller size field.

I'm talking about the true Rugby World Cup, not about the fkg Rugby League WC. He won't have many opportunities, Americans don't know anything beyond the Rio Bravo.

His best move was to play the World Cup with the Wallabies and then get a juicy contract in Europe with Toulon or something like that

pretty cool, from memory this is something he has really wanted to do and I think he even went over and did trials/testing/training.

I wish him all the best and hope he's successful in following his dreams.

What a stupid comment.

His best move? Who's to say he even likes Union?
If he can get an NFL contract then that's by far his best move as it's a lifelong dream of his and there's a huge amount of money in the NFL so he'd make more there than going to Toulon.

Yeah fair play to the guy. Obviously every rugby league fan will be pretty disappointed, but I think it takes a lot of guts to walk away from something that you're a mega-star in and have a guaranteed million dollar career, to risk it all on what you're passionate about. Like I said earlier I don't think the skills translate all that well, but I guess you're only young enough for a very limited time and I'd imagine he'd probably regret it more not giving it a go if it's what he really loves.

So... predictions.

I'm guessing he does practically nothing of note and either returns to the NRL or gets snapped up by a French team.

Probably.
I mean, unless he truely is a freak of nature then there'd be guys in America 5+ years younger who are faster/stronger and will have been playing the game all of their life so have better instincts out on the field and won't need Visas to live/play there.

I reckon a few trials over the season, maybe make a training squad over the off season and then get cut loose and he'll return to League.

Do u know kids like Calvin Johnson, Demaryius Thomas, Dez Bryant, A.J. Green and Cordarrelle Patterson? Guys who have played American football ALL his life. Jarryd has no chance, also Americans don't know beyond baseball, football (american, of course) basketball and ice hockey. Americans aren't going to value an NRL star, they aren't even aware Union which is much more popular in the world. They won't have patience with him.

And yes, the RLWC sucks, so say the 'leaguies' (league supporters). For them the most important and competitive tournament is the State of Origin. The RLWC outside of Australia has never been successful, even in England haven't achieved reasonable crowds at all games.

A shame, would have liked to have seen him in rugby.

Me too, he's going to waste his time in USA. What the hell has on his head? His best chance is the RWC. It's the third most important sport event. F*cking asshole

TBF the RLWC tv ratings might have been records - but let's compare them to the 6N.

England's SF vs the Kiwis got 2.3m peak viewers.

The highest peak of the 2013 6nations was the Eng/Wales game which drew 9.4m peak viewers.
The lowest was the Fra/Ita game which drew 4m peak viewers.

If you look at BBC1/2's ratings anything that is shown on a sat/sun is guaranteed to get at least 2 million viewers.
