Massively Overrated XV

Cyril, if these players are so great, what have they done recently. Matfield has been bullied in the lineouts in recent international matches, Adam Jones has been really quiet and when compared to Australia, French and New Zealand scrums comes up extremely short. Wilkinson was great, but don't forget as any team player would know, the forwards do the hard graft to enable the kickers to do their thing, no forwards, no win, so you may sit there thinking Wilko the golden boy won the world cup for England, I would love to see him do it without the forward pack dominance he had and see how many points he could put on the board. All you have to do is watch England matches where he plays now to understand how important a good forward pack is to a kicking flyhalf. Phillips 2nd best? Fourie Du Preez? Will Genia? Jimmy Cowan? Piri Weepu? Josh Valentine? Morgan Parra? Are you seriously suggesting he is better than those players. Get your Welsh tinted glasses off.

Coming from the man who hides his identity in many forms its quite funny to read your posts.

Adam Jones if you watched any of the recent games he pretty much did the job against NZ and if you think the OZ scrum was that good, again go back and watch summer tours game. The test for the Oz scrum will come against the All Blacks pack. Matfield is still world class and under PDV then he has not flourished so well.

Hell yeah he is better .he is by far the biggest threat going forward gives great service to his first reciever and the most use in loose play and defence of any scrumhalf in world rugby ...its like haveing another flanker on field...so yes he smokes the rest of your list at the moment versus...

With the exception of DP and Genia, i'd say Philips, on form, is better than the rest of those.

Not sure about my XV, something like:

1. Tim Payne (though only Johnson rates him, but unfortunately his is the opinion that counts)
2. Smit
3. Beast
4. Bakkies Botha
5. Borthwick
6. Powell
7. Worsely
8. Spies (i really do like Spies though, but he's built up to be something he isn't)
9. Januarie
10. Wilkinson
11. Habana
12. Hape
13. Earls (couldn't really think of one, but he was named in quite a few top XVs in the other thread, which is mad)
14. Varndell
15. Kearney

Alright Iron Mikey boy.
I agree Matfield has been less than his best recently, still one of the greats.
Adam Jones - did you not see the tests against NZ? In the first, admittedly he got dominated when Woodcock came on; the second was a different story.
I agree about the 'team' aspect with Wilkinson. I was going to originally write 'Wilkinson won it single-handed', but that would be doing his pack a disservice. But with Mike Catt playing 10, England would not have won the world cup.
Now we come to Mike Phillips....
AREW REEEAALLL??!!
I called him the 2nd best Scrum Half, meaning there was one ahead of him - that guy is called FOURIE DU PREEZ.
Will Genia - Maybe, he's still young, still yet to do something to convince me otherwise
Cowan - NO!
Weepu - Nup. NZ fans call him an 'impact player' so better than Phillips? Naaaat.
Parra - People call him the 'General' but again I'm yet to see something from him that makes him brilliant.
Josh Valentine - WAAAAT THAAA FAAAACCCKKKK??!!
You were just winding me up with that las t one right?

Phillips is much better than Valentine and Cowan!

anyway here's my team

1. TIM PAYNE
2. Du Plessis
3.
4. Borthwick
5. Botha
6. Haskell
7. Worsley
8. Spies
9. Janaurie
10. Wilkinson
11. Habana
12. Hape
13. Fourie
14. Varndell
15. Byrne

i can't for the life of me find the edit button on my post, kind of struggled with the props but how could i forget TIM PAYNE!

Well done cRyil, you have tempted fate and invoked the wrath of Genia on your countrymen, i hope youre happy. Genia will be the undisputed best halfback in the world next year mark my words. (And it wont be because he improves at all, he will just be able to be seen by everyone on the world stage. If you had really seen him play you wouldn't dare try and compare him to Mike Phillips...)

Welll Dingmeister here's my stab at it.

1. Sheridan
2.Hartly/Flannery
3. Murray
4. POC
5.Wyn Jones
6. Chabal
7. Burger
8. Jones
9. Fairhurst lol, jk he's the best. Maybe Parra?
10. Steyn
11.Willliams
12. JdV
13. BOD
14. Nywenga
15.am, Kearney?

None are bad players mind, just overrated. No offence meant.
May Chabal have mercy on your soul!

That's because there isn't one.

Apparently, the permissions for the "General Rugby" section (contains the "General Rugby" and the "Universitas-Rugbeia" forums) does not allow editing of posts. It also doesn't allow attachments.

Have a look at the bottom of the page

I can't imagine why this is?

I have raised the issue with St Helens.

Didn't know there was a rule that said I had to give my identity away, my identity is what it is and will find it varies from country to country due to a rather handy IP hider, that is what I do and this place is to discuss rugby not my or your life story.

Now, when you say Australian scrum, which do you mean? The third choice front row that faced England or the first choice front row that ****** on Europe in 2009?

Matfield is class, it is rather ignorant of me to put him in there because he is a class player, but I feel it is justified. He is a great player, but he isn't a legend, he is what he is because there is no one to match him at the moment, one name though, Ali Williams, injured two years and already everybody has forgotten him. He is also, no John Eales, yet John Eales had less hype, fear and presence about him.

This isn't, the worst international XV at the moment, this is overrated players and Matfield will fall just like Spies once people get over the psychological factor.

Glad there are so few New Zealander's in these teams (that's not a challenge).

Carlos Spencer would be close to the list, brilliant sometimes but completely rubbish at others, can't even kick so he uses the banana kick for long distances.

I don't think Adam Jones is overrated. It's taken him a few months to recover fully from the injury he sustained on the Lions tour, but was back at his best in the second NZ test. He wasn't playing last Autumn, and that made a big difference to the Welsh scrum and was the main reason Aus got on top. Not saying the first choice Aus scrum isn't very good though! He is highly rated, so if you think that's unjustified, then fine.

I feel IronMike has every right to include Mike Phillips though. He's been average at best this season, yet is still living off his reputation built up on the Lions tour. If this was a year ago, Phillips had just played some of the best rugby of his life in SA, up there with Fourie du Preez. I feel Genia is now better on current form, but some of the other you named Mike are way off! Not a fan of Cowan or Weepu.
