London 2012

Anybody watching track and field? I'd appreciate an update on the women's javelin qualifiers; in particular the exploits of Sunette Viljoen who is probably SAs last chance for gold and to equal our previous best of 4 gold (Stockholm).

First place in Group B with 65.92, third overall, 5.9m further than the last placed qualifier.
Not a bad position to be going in to the finals on Thursday in.

+1 Thanks for the good news. Hope she goes all the way as it has dried up since our solid early start in the water.

Brits on twitter going mad about Pendelton's relegation. I know little about the rules on this, but I'm sure it's not as obviously wrong as their ranting makes it look.

So basically any sport where it's okay not to have front teeth

Cold, bro. Just cold.

Besides, most of the NI people in those sort of sports tend to end up representing Ireland...

Two golds and a silver at the velodrome today!
Have to say, Pendleton's silver was sketchy - her first round she got relegated for leaving the sprint lines, but she only did that because the Aussie illegally elbowed her.
Second round the Aussie came to a complete standstill within the first lap, which is illegal.

Ah well. Trott had a MASSIVE 500m time trial to clinch to gold, and then Hoy just beast moded everyone.

Think we got gold in horse walking as well?

A very, very successful day for Holland... 2 Gold, 2 Bronze!

nah, I haven't seen a GB Ginger win anything so far...

Only ten percent of Irish people compared to thirteen percent of Scots. Anyway we'll show you kind of.

Lads Katie Taylor is class

This.

Unbelievable woman no one deserves the gold more than her hopefully she can do it now. Incredible that in a fight against a team GB member you could only hear the Irish. I was watching her in an Irish pub in Amsterdam with an amazing atmosphere. We should get a few medals from the boxing we're already guaranteed to bronze's at least I think so.

3rd medal for Ireland, Michael Conlan.

Much better fight than Katie Taylor's.

1st round 5-5
2nd round 7-7
3rd round 10-6

Absolutely brilliant fight, typical boxer vs brawler. Anyone who wants to knock amateur boxing just has to watch that fight.

Give me amateur boxing over professional any day!

Still gutted about the 7s falling through, was looking forward to it! That said, I probably would have died out there as my plan of getting fit never actually happened...
If we did do one next year, where to would be best? I'm gonna be living in Deutschland, but am getting a whopping grant so should be able to travel back for it!

I wonder if Amsterdam has a 7s tournament...

It's a best of 3 race anyway. Theres not much room to hide if you aren't the fastest. Meares rode well and killed it in the 2nd race.

Yeah, I didn't see the Mail the day after to see what they really put but I was shown this the day after the opening ceremony, the red box is the worst bit

Wow, what a nasty piece of crap.

I'll never understand the whole obsession with bashing "multiculturalsim". I mean, what is the alternative to a society where people are free to act however they like within the laws? A place where the government outlaws living differently? Wouldn't that be a "big government - left wing -communist" kind of society they always whinge about?

I suppose the people who make this stuff up don't really care if it's logically sound anyway, so speculation is pointless.
