Licences???????

Hope HB have secured the South African license. There are guys in SA that want Sidhe to get the License. C'mon HB these things would not be happening had you guys had some solid screenshots.

Clearly Sidhe started production only with New Zealanders and Aussies in mind. I Trust HB to do more good if they have or get the South African License.
Also as i am aware Sa distributors have been struggling to get the game to SA; clearly they think the game won't sell well. Why? focus on development was on New Zraland and Aussie teams; not South African.

I'm sure they have a target market (ie. Europe and SANZAR). South Africa(the 'boks') will be in it, and possibly a 'Super Rugby' and 'Heineken Cup' type tournament(s) too. doubt the Curry Cup and the ITM Cup will be in it however...

.

What makes you think any of that?

im fairlysure theyre going to focus on SA as its one of the biggest rugby nations

the wallabies and the all blacks could still be licensed in both rugby games. eg.rugby challenge 2006 and rugby 06 both had the licenses to the guinness premiership and ireland, england, wales aswell as scotland.

Well in the press release about the commentators for Rugby Challenge it says it includes the Qantas Wallabies, and in the 2011 Rugby World Cup there is no team competing that is the "Qantas" Wallabies, so maybe the Wallabies are in this game.

It doesn't work that way...Even if you use just "Quantas" or "Wallabies", they are both part of the same name. The jerseys, looks and names are part of that. The copyright law is a tight b*tch :D

the qantas part of the name only indicates they are properly licenced. you cant just get rid of that and relicence it. it comes with the licence, and i would think it is a requirement of the licence.

"Qantas" and "Wallabies" are parts of the license (and yes, you are correct Qantas needs to be in there being the official sponsor). "Australia" isn't, and can be used freely even if you don't have the official license.

Same with "All Blacks" vs "New Zealand", and "Springboks" vs "South Africa".

Does that mean if a company had both rights to the World Cup and the Qantas Wallabies they would have to have a fake jersey for the World Cup with Qantas slapped on it?

I doubt it.

Just... who cares about fake jerseys with sponsor on it?!
It's a game, the more important things are its playability, gaming structures (tournaments, leagues), other features (multyplayer mode, LAN), and updated roosters...

Apart form those things, the rest are details!

So, I'm now assuming that the 'Aviva Premiership' Will NOT feature in the 'Rugby World Cup 2011' game, because Rugby Challenge has acquired that licence.
I'm hoping that 'Rugby Challenge' gets the Heineken Cup, the Pro 12(formerly Magners League) and the Top 14 licences!!

I really don't want to think about having to play, for example 'Moonster vs Tigers at Thymand Park' or 'Twoloose vs Saracens at Stade du Paris' in one game,
and 'Northernamptons vs Leinster at Frans-garden' in the other! (this is of course, assuming that 'RWC11' actually get any licences!!)

Details are the difference between a good game and a Great game.

From the HB side of things, if (I said if, we don't know for sure yet) they don't have the licence for players and teams like the ABs and wallbies then what is the point of being the official world cup game? They get to use logo? and what?

I will be be buying both games regardless, but imagine the first time Rugby gamer in Oz o r NZ buying the 'official game' and finding no All blacks or no Wallibies.....you'd be a bit baffled. Sure, being the official game might be great for marketing, but people will buy the official game assuming that it has the official teams and players so to speak. It
could end up back firing. Without the proper teams and players it kind of ceases to be the 2011 world cup IMO.

BTW shout out to the new HB screes, look fantastic. Now that the visuals are back to even it will be a gameplay battle
after all.

My 2 cents on licensing.

I do think that both games have shot themselves in the foot here with the licensing...no game will have a complete competition experience (apart from ITM). Now what I think what they should is:
1. Sidhe should focus on club rugby. They should get all club competitions and licenses respectively...including Currie cup and Pro12 etc.
2. HB should focus on the international front and have all the licenses to the international teams (should nearly have all rugby playing countries). They should also include A franchise type mode but where you are a manager of a country....young talent will emerge over the years and they will get better from the more games they play and the opponents they play. That means playing teams like Argentina will improve your scrummaging stats and playing teams like Samoa will improve players strength and tackling and so on.
In this country franchise mode you are trying to bring your country to the world cup..so if you are a small team you have to go through qualifying rounds..thus need to include 6 nations B etc. You start 4 years away from the world cup and compete in their respective competitions and organise tours in the off season

I think this would be awesome for us and benefit both companies as nearly everyone would buy both games...they will be in competition in the sense that they are in the rugby market, but would have different niches. I think this would be a winning formula for both companies if they decide to release a second game. Anyone agree?

^^^^ That is a great idea. Don't think it would happen, but still like the idea.

Yeah.nice idea but we don't live in a perfect world. Companies try to make as much money as possible. What's better for Sidhe? Just club licenses, or club licenses plus Wallabies, All Blacks and a smattering of other international teams. Not rocket science that one.
