Italy’s future in 6N

Italy have had some good wins against Tier 2 teams over the past 10 years, but the only T1 side they have beaten recently is South Africa in 2016. See scores

I would still say that their participation in the 6N is still positive, the other teams use the Italy game to blood players/ test things out, and the trip to Rome every other year does bring some good cultural diversity into the competition. There is also a quite a big core of strong Italian supporters who go to every single game and love the matches.

Italy isn't going anywhere. Springboks will join in 2024 and CVC will renegotiate with all television networks. The Seven Nations will be the undisputed top rugby competition in the world and tv networks will pay accordingly. Once those deals are finalized, CVC will either a.) sell their shares with a princely gain or b.) benefit from increased earnings for multiple years.

And this isn't even a prediction, everything out of South Africa indicates this is basically a done deal at this point. People can complain all they want, but Springboks joining the Six Nations makes sense for all parties.

Italy stays (as long as Aus and NZ keep hold of SA) as there isn't any better option anyways. Japan after an impressive home world cup, didn't play at all in 2020, then 2021 lost all their games ageist T1 sides, only win was Portugal

You don't voluntarily shrink your market valuation by removing viewership. Italy isn't going anywhere. And the Springboks are gone.

I agree, didn't phrase my post very well. The only way I see Italy getting replaced is if it's for SA but I agree that they more likely just compete with 7 teams in that instance.

It's fine now though, WRU have solved the problem by closing the bars at half time and having slightly weaker beer........................................

That's going to counter act the bottle of vodka and lines of coke the knobs have before they get into the stadium.

I wouldn't take my son to wales to watch rugby as it's just too scummy. Bath and Gloucester are borderline as they are getting close to being welsh.

Although I wouldn't take him to 'twickers' either as it's a posh twat fest.

Sorry all, I'm **** faced so talking rubbish.

The only time I went to Cardiff for the rugby was the NZ v France QF back in 2015. Watched the SA v Wales beforehand in the pub. Got to say it was a fantastic day and the Principality being so close to the city centre was a real bonus and fantastic stadium. Had a beer at the stadium
And can't recall much drunkenness, even before the game during the Wales game.

But getting accommodation in the city was a nightmare even 8-9 months before. Had to stay at friends in Bristol instead. But well
Organised afterwards to get out of the stadium and to the station and away.

Rome is one city I have got to visit, but not for the rugby.

One rugby fan advised me to visit rugby matches in Cardiff and said that Cardiff is the best place to see a live rugby match! (He was a Welsh fan so probably a bit biased though)

I've heard the same from non-Welsh fans.

I reckon watching France play a huge game in Paris would beat it but otherwise no.

I reckon it's the last of the 6 cities you'd want to visit on a non-rugby weekend though so might as well get th both in in one.

Night time game in Paris watching France play someone like NZ is on my bucket list

I've got a ticket for the two QFs they can be in next year. Provided it's not Scotland I'll be in for such a treat.

Irish really just can't get past the quarters….

Honestly if covid all good by then tempted to just go to Paris for a weekend even without tickets.

RWC2015 4 of us got round the table and agreed which matches we were going to apply for in the ballot. Ended up getting 1 pool match Wales v Australia, QF, SF with NZ in both and shared what we got. Takes planning but can be done to get the tickets for next RWC for the matches you want.

Only managed to get a RWC final ticket because none of the home nations made it and was willing to pay top whack for a ticket.
