Italy v France

I'm soo happy for Italy, and especially for Parrise and Mallet. Those two deserve this big time. Another player I'm really pleased for is Burgamasco, as a makeshift kicker he has unfortunately cost Italy a few wins, but today his kicking won them the match (after a slight hicup).

As for France. What will be the backlash after this? Lievremont has been slowly but surely digging his own grave with his rediculous selection policy. Will he be sacked now, just 6 months before the WC? Either way, not a great position for France to be in, but we all know they can come back from this in time for the WC. Welcome to the sh*t we've had to sufferfor years French supporters, I feel for you.

Jeesus...This world cup ain't gonna be funny...

I've read an interview where the coach is basically rejecting any responsibility for this defeat, saying it's the player's fault. Ivory tower syndrome anyone?

He's never gonna be sacked, he was chosen by the FFR because he was young and inexperienced and therefore easily controlable, as opposed to guys like St Andre or Galthie...

Everybody is actually happy for the Italians here in France, and wishing for an heavy defeat against Wales in hope that the coach will be sacked....

Today rewatched game and I didn't understand what the referee was thinking in the last minute scrum time. Italy were dominated ang going backwards and reset scrum? Cmon. It a joke. Actually, the game was lost before. Chabal, Jauzion - invisible in the game. It was funny to watch Chabal caching kick and off-loading to Parra and he was under huge by a few Italians. Chabal is more poster boy than actual test level player. Hughet made some mistakes. Center pair is useless. Jauzion is out form.

Yep, hope we won't win against Wales. Laporte killed french flair, now Lièvremont killed France's XV.
It's sad for us, but as said before everyone here is pleased for this italian team. We know them very well, and it's great for them, congratulations for your deserved win.

As for the last play, of course there was penalty for us. But I'm sooo happy the referee didn't gave us the win, it was really enjoyable to see them celebrating their victory with their supporters.

As for us, we have lot to do now, and I hope we won't win against Wales or everything will be like before. We need to be beaten hardly if we want to see some changes. And please, my irish friends, please beat this england team... scots were so close today, I was so sad for them.

France coach Marc Lievremont has made six big-name changes to his Six Nations squad to face Wales on Saturday.
Sebastien Chabal, Yannick Jauzion, Sylvain Marconnet, Clement Poitrenaud and Jerome Thion have been dropped.
Centre Aurelien Rougerie is also axed because of an imminent French League disciplinary committee appearance.

To be fair none of them really performed so won't be a loss

[textarea]Lievremont, who said that he would make sweeping changes to the squad for the final Six Nations match next weekend at home to Wales, said he should have been more alert to a possible shock given the attitude of the players when they returned from club duty last weekend. "Last Saturday evening, they must have behaved like idiots after their matches.
"I left them alone till Sunday evening. Monday, they dragged their feet. Tuesday, their training session was disgusting, appalling.

I do really wonder if we need to read between the lines here. Would these players rather be turning out for their Top 14 clubs than playing 6N Rugby for their country? If we can take Leivremont's comments at face value, it certainly seems that way.

Well the problem is that he can't really take the higher ground, given his appalling record. I think basically he's lost the respect/ear of the players...

I bet france will be a tricky side come world cup time. I dont buy into them conceding they have no chance at the world cup. Not one bit :p

So my question is, which came first, the "appalling record" or the "loss of respect".

Appalling record first, no question. Mind boggling squad selections, idiotic replacements during the games, awful player management (vitriolic interviews after defeats)...There's only so much players can take before they get fed up with the coach.

Can you believe the guy waited 3 years to make a playbook. 3 YEARS FFS!!!

This guy's a joke...

1.- The french press is so anti-Lèvremont (as is everybody else), that no-one has mentioned the las minute scrum that could have resulted in a kickable penalty for France. The players and coach don't mention it, probably because they would be accused of making excuses up.

2.- Lièvremont said that it was some players' last game with the french jersey. It seems too much of a far-fetched declaration, given that will be in charge of team selection for very little longer (WC at most). Anyway, I think it's words that deserve some thought. The six players sent back were Chabal, Jauzion, Marconnet, Poitrenaud, Rougérie and Thion. Here's what I think of each of them:
Marconnet : France's most capped prop in history, with 83. At 34 it is very unlikely that will be playing any international rugby after the WC and, given what ML said, it seems he won't be playing any before or during either. A very effective scrummager, but a bit too old to hold in the loose. Can play both 1 and 3, something uncommon these days. I would have taken him to the WC as a replacement, and I think he had a decent game against Italy, especially considering he made Castrogiovanni go back.
Jauzion : one of my favorite players around, but he has been absolute crap for France after last year's 6N. Probably still playing the WC although not a sure thing at it seemed before. Hard to say if he will play again after. It would be extemely sad if this was his last game for France, a player like him deserved better.
Chabal : His exclusion of the team just corrects a historic mistake, since the guy should have never been there. Good enough for club rugby, but way too predictible and techniquely poor for international level. Hopefully his last game with France, but ML seems to like him.
Poitrenaud : Gets nervous in big occasions. Very good for Toulouse and for France when nothing in play. Only 28 though, so even if he is not included in the WC squad, he will probably play again with the next coach.
Thion : Have never rated him. 33 years old, probably won't make it for the WC, but still may play some games afterwards. Hard to say, since locks often have a role that only team mates can tell.
Rougérie : Sent back only for the disciplinary hearing, so I don't think there is anything to say.

What do you guys think of the first four?
