Is it just me or are wales getting a bit cocky?

Ah scrum V stats the most unbiased TV show. If you go with the ESPN stats. You had parity in most areas. Not sure how you work out better. England made more passes, covered more distance with the ball. England made more tackles. Scrums were even neither team lost one against the head and lineouts were pretty even.

Ye England did make more, some 11 more ... Wales still had a better tackle completion rate.

Stats are misleading, as you said Scrums were even but the rate that one scrum went back early on in the game which Wales won a penalty for, I don't think you can really say the scrum was even. This is were stats are misleading.

Definitely. They lost to SA, France, Aus in the world cup because they couldn't close the game out, lost to Aus again in the Autumn, then are saying they can now win the 'tight games' over an aging Irish side with a coach the fans hate, and a very new, inexperienced England side who were a TMO away from a draw.

imo to say that they've improved suggests that they'll be winning those tight games against those Southern Hemisphere sides - their performances so far suggest either England and Ireland have magically raised their game, or that Wales are in the same place as they were 5 months ago.

They're in a position to say 'we'll give it a go' against anyone, but they aren't in a position to say 'we'll win' or 'we're the favourites' over many top teams.

Warbs saying at the end of the game at Twickers 'we played really badly' is the sort of cockiness that's just a bit silly - Wales have lost to England the last 3 six nations before this one, turn up against our new 'building' side that's played poorly so far, we fronted up and the Welsh managed to win, and they call it a poor performance.

C'mon, there is no way they could have played better and beating us at Twickers was a hell of a result for them - and the self expectation that a good performance considering their past form/players etc would mean a much better result than they got is a bit of a cocky joke.

would love to see this game replayed again.just to see if that english side could raise their game to that level again.and i doubt our team would play so badly.anyway all by the by.result still stands

^^
I must be having an idiot moment. Is that a humble or cocky comment?

I agree it depends on who's stats you use as well. As has been said they don't say how many penalties England gave away etc because of Welsh pressure. England not losing any against the head would say they were ok. The reality is different.

Well this is a debate that the welsh will side the welsh and everyone else will go against us. Pundits and papers will overhype, its their job to create exitement amongst their home nations. Those that actually follow rugby and the players themselves generally are level headed about the situation. The team is playing with confidence.
We could change the scenario to any side, whether it be success or failure related and the outcome will be the same.
Confidence is 9 times out of 10 mistaken as cockyness when its not ur team. If others applaude your abilities its fine, but when you go public with your belief in your abilities, its deemed wrong?? (guess u gotta apply it to the individual players/people and their individual "personalities" - only then will you be able to comment on cocky/confident.)

Well going back to Ireland you have had luck against us on two occasions this six nations and last year, cant really speak for England or Scotland.
Luck in the fact that Bradley Davies should have been sent off......but there again Wales were the better side.

The Welsh team won all their matches so far, also 2 from 3 matches were away and against pretty tough team...this is a good performance from the welsh team and we should respect this.
It is true though the media attention around the welsh team make the welsh in general look cocky, maybe they are a little bit, I think Shane William is extremely cocky per example, I can't stand him as a pundit, we are the best, we are the best, bla, bla, bla..., I could not stand him as a player either, just a chave scoring tries.
2 home match left for Wales, Italy and France, they will probably go all the way and win the grand slam, they will deserve it.
Of course I would prefer the french to kick their ~~~ though and see the sad welsh fan looking for answers.

Shane Williams cocky ... that's the first time I have ever heard him being called that.

thanks for your input.

Gatland annoys me. He knows his side was close to getting beat.

Wouldn't say better side you dominated us on possiesion but you didnt do much with it due to our half decent defending skills which were just not up to scratch that day, it took a lucky decision against us to lose the match.

Drop it.

Yup they didn't do anything, except dominate the breakdown, be on top at scrum time, score three tries, have the lion's share of possession, give the ball to their backs once in a while, actually have a game plan, look the better team throughout etc, etc.

oh god hear you are again, you really dont like me do you are you a wales supporter in disguise?

Ah, test rugby always brings out the best in people... "No, we were clearly the best team. It was only refereeing decisions which meant they won".

*snore*

So if im wrong why did ireland only lose by 2 points then if we were ''dominated'' so much like you said.

No, I'm a realist. There's no point saying that we were the better team on the day, because we weren't. It's counter productive if anything. Most Irish fans will acknowledge that we were the poorer side on the day and will want to know why. With no disrespect intended to Wales, losing at home to them is a shambolic result considering the resources at our disposal and saying Wales were lucky is just a massively narrow-minded, one-eyed way to look at the game that distracts from the point that there are deep flaws within the way our national team is run.

Did Wales have a bit of luck? Of course. Every team that wins away against a top 8 rugby nation has a bit of luck. The good teams capitalise on it. If you ever watch New Zealand playing against a NH side, it's usually pretty close for about half an hour, then they get a lucky-ish break, score a try and then capitalise on that momentum. For example, the last time they played up here, they got a lucky enough try as a result of one of their own passes not going to hand and then pulverised us for the next 10 minutes. Suddenly they had a 20 point lead out of no where.

The long and short of what I'm saying is every team gets lucky breaks in an 80 minute rugby match. It's what you do with them that defines how good you are.

Oh well i have faith in my team unlike some of these irishmen on here, just wait and see what happens this six nations because its not over yet.
