Ireland vs Barbarians

Sexton looked in pain going off the pitch in the warm up and well Johne Murphy ... I always praised his signing as I think he is a super winger and has a good try-scoring rate but tonight he impressed me massively again with last ditch tackle and well he had hunger but well I'm not sure is he going down under.
I was really impressed with that tackle as well, felt for sure BaaBaas were going to score,

I thought both wingers performed well today. Along with Fergus McFadden (if he was playing at 12?) and Niall Ronan.

McFadden isn't ready yet and needs more experience with Leinster.
Trimble did well tonight and was running nice lines but look he's never going to get in to my views as for some reason I just can't accept him.
But I hope that Murphy is brought down under and Fionn Carr to get drafted in.

Wonder what the hooker scenario is now and well I not saying this because I Munster but I'd rate Varley been better than both Fogarty's.
Cronin will start but back-up will be interesting too and well I think last summer between Lions tour and well Churchill Cup is catching up with players.

Just watched the last 50 on Sky+ as I caught the first 30 before I went out, and Paddy Wallace definitely caught my eye. Whenever he got the ball he took the right option and displayed superb handling (what an offload) and good kicking. Depends if you want D'arcy's hard running or Paddy's genius to expose the inexperienced Benson Stanley next week, but I definitely think Paddy is the best 12 we have available.

Ireland were pretty awful early on but after about the 25 minute mark they were quite good. Refreshing to see ROG playing so flat. Also good to see performances from Cronin (PACE), Buckley (POWER), Touhy, Muldoon, Ronan, Henry, Duffy and Murphy. O'Leary looked great off the bench, passing was much lively-er. Kearney and Bowe looked in good form too as you would expect.

Still a disappointing loss.

Injury problems mount for Kidney

Ireland 23 Barbarians 29: Shane Horgan, Fergus McFadden, Jonathan Sexton and Jerry Flannery have emerged as the latest injury concerns for Ireland coach Declan Kidney as he prepares to take his squad on a tour of New Zealand and Australia.
McFadden (broken jaw) and Flannery (calf) were both casualties from tonight's defeat at the hands of the Barbarians.

That's nearly half our first team injured, this is getting ridiculous.

On a more positive note(for me at least) although I hate to see players get injured, if Flannery is out then Cronin is certain to start the test matches.

Confirmed, Flannery, McFadden and Horgan are out. Damien Varley and Johne Murphy are in as replacements with another to be named soon. Still no word on Sexton.

I do't think it's the right thing to do but I feel Declan Kidney will start John Fogarty in both tests and unleash Sean Cronin late in both games. Kidney (or Fogarty) has said that had Jerry Flannery not made the Australia game in November, that's what would have happened. I thought Cronin was fantastic in the loose but not great out of touch. He's the future though.

I'm very happy for Damien Varley on earning a call up. Same goes for Johne Murphy.

Agree with whoever said the scrum was better with Court and Buckley propping.

Ed O'Donoghue was sin binned.

THAT WAS ME it did get better wasn't brilliant but it was better. Court is a good scrummager and I think he should definatly get test time espesially if the scrum is going to bits.
the referee was woeful at the scrum his calls were far to slow referees should be told by the IRB the certain amount of time waited before each call.

Poite took his time at the scrum but it was the same for both teams. Ireland's scrum would have struggled anyway.

To be fair it is about time that Ireland had some injuries, we have been living of the 1st XV for too long - this might help our fringe players step up for the World Cup and further into the future.

The Current Injury List:
Paul O'Connell
Luke Fitzgerald
Keith Earls
Rory Best
Leo Cullen
Jerry Flannery
Devin Toner
Donnacha Ryan
Denis Leamy
Sean O'Brien
Kevin McLaughlin
Shane Horgan
Fergus McFadden
Stephen Ferris

We're looking at a tour from hell to rival England 99' the way this is going.

From what I've heard David Smith did pretty well. That'll be good for the Hurricanes next season as Tamati Ellison is going over seas (and was not really a winger to begin with), and David Smith should slot in nicely. Anyone confirm he played well?

Yeah,he did quite well on the wing. That said, the opposition wasno great shakes so I wouldn't be judging his credentials as starting winger for an S14 franchise on yesterday's game.

Snoop hope you are wrong about Fogarty starting as I'd have Cronin starting and Varley on the bench (although Fogarty will at least get bench)

Horgan and Flannery still may join up if they heal and Sexton is ok it was a gum infection although he looked in pain last night.
Murphy really did well last night and I feel if he gets into Munsters 15 next season (which I think he will) then he'll be pushing very hard for International spot.

If I were to pick team now though for next week and well I thinking like Kidney. (trying to anyway)
15. G. Murphy
14. T. Bowe
13. B. O'Driscoll
12. P. Wallace
11. R. Kearney
10. J. Sexton/ R. O'Gara (Depends on Sextons fitness)
9. T. O'Leary
1. C. Healy/ M. Horan (Really is a tight call)
2. S. Cronin
3. J. Hayes
4. D. O'Callaghan
5. M. O'Driscoll
6. J. Muldoon
7. D. Wallace
8. J. Heaslip

16. J. Fogarty (although I think it should be Varley)
17. T. Buckley
18. E. O'Donoghue/D. Tuothy
19. S. Jennings
20. E. Reddan
21. R. O'Gara/ G. D'Arcy
22. G. D'Arcy/ A. Trimble

I'd probably have 2/3 differents selections but have a feeling thats the way Kidney will go.

Also I agree Pointe took forever to engage the scrum and it became frustrating for both teams.

Wouldn't start Geordan Murphy, munstermuffin; Kearney fullback, Trimble on the left wing. And I thought Healy was totally justified as the first choiuce number 1 in last night's game. I thought Horan was abysmal.

I agree with munstermuffin that Sean Cronin should start at hooker. If it was up to me, I'd have John Fogarty backing him up. The reason I'd go for Fogarty instead of Damien Varley is experience. Fogarty has captained teams before and has played in big games in the Heineken Cup and Magners League. Varley has had a very good season but he's a backup at provincial level. Varley may have more of an intenational future but he needs more experience before he can be thrust into international level.

I wonder what the future holds for Marcus Horan. He's lost his international place to Cian Healy and is probably the 3rd choice loosehead available to Ireland behind Tom Court also. Having lost his international contract and with Munster having signed impressive Springbok Wian Du Preez, Horan may struggle to get in the Munster side too from now on. I don't think he's finished but he has a battle on his hands if he's to continue as a 1st choice provincial player.

I would like to see Kidney use only Court,Buckley and Healy. We have nothing to looe and those players are better than Hayes and Horan.
