Ireland vs Barbarians

I agree that donncha would make a good captain. he has great line out skills, strong ball carrying and a good work rate. He also knows where he belongs in the team and when to make his voice heard.

Record-breaking Leinster lock Malcolm O'Kelly and Munster's long-serving back rower Alan Quinlan have both been named in the Barbarians starting line-up for Friday's clash with Ireland at Thomond Park (kick-off 7.45pm).

Another familiar face to the sell-out home crowd for the MasterCard Trophy match will be Munster's Australian-born full-back Paul Warwick.

Warwick played in last Sunday's 35-26 defeat for the Barbarians to England at Twickenham.

Malcolm O'Kelly, who is retiring at the end of the season, has played on three previous occasions for the Baa Baas, against South Africa in December 2000 and Scotland and England in May 2004.

Friday's game at Thomond Park - the Barbarians' first visit to the famous Limerick venue - will be an extra special occasion for Alan Quinlan as it will mark his debut for the black and white-shirted invitational team.

Xavier Rush, who captained the Barbarians at Twickenham, again leads the side which also features two additions to the tour squad this week - Schalk Brits at hooker and out-half Brock James from newly-crowned Top 14 champions Clermont Auvergne.

Paul Sackey faces a late fitness test on a hamstring injury before taking his place on the replacements bench, and Fabrice Estebanez is standing by to deputise.

This will be the first time that Ireland has played the Barbarians in Ireland since 2000. The most recent meeting between the two sides also coincided with the last Southern Hemisphere tour Ireland undertook in 2008 when the men in green played the Barbarians in Gloucester, winning the game 39-14.

young side, no real spark in the back line but i like the look of the pack.

Is Reddan injured as he couldve done with game time in a green jersey.
I looking forward to going in and getting to see Baa Baas on Friday but do wonder are we bit raw and there for the taking.
Presume Sexton will see enough game time too but our backline is lacking that bit of magic I think

don't agree with the backline. why start players who have been tried and tested and obviously arent going to benefit the team in the future? or are injuries that bad and theres no one else?

Agree with Snoop it a very average Magners side and like if we are realistic if the Baa Baas are up for it and I expect they will be then it not a great confidence boost to loose.
I'd have liked to seen maybe the likes of Reddan and Paddy Wallace start who are realistically players who will be called upon but Niall ronan McFadden Duffy and likes of Muldoon will not be trusted in real international games and it not as if they young and learning except maybe McFadden to some degree.

Also dangandan you say y start with tested back line.
Every player there except McFadden has had enough chances in Irish camps etc.
And you say about future well in that case why pick Stringer RoG Shaggy Duffy

Eh, I think you're agreeing with him, no?

No because he's saying we're starting with untested players and players that can offer us something in future but well it simple - That not the case.

But Feicarsinn I agree with you - we could loose although I hope not.

BaaBaas are going to feel hard done by not beating England last week, reckon they'll take this
What time is kick off?/Does this clash with the Wales v Springboks? I want to watch both if possible

mc fadden is a great player i reckon i think he will be an ireland regular after the world cup
rather have fionn carr over shaggy but ackwell
i think as long as the pack hold together we can win
but we could well lose

I remember Duffy playing pretty well at at outside center in the 2007 tour to Argentina and he was our goal kicker and I also think he played at outside center against the Barbarians in 2008.

But I believe that he should be at full back.

Duffy has had an excellent season at 15, why not play him there and play Wallace and McFadden in the centre? Or if DK sees McFadden as our long term 12 play Trimble at 13 and Fionn Carr at 11?

Because Deccie has lost his marbles methinks. O'Gara against the BaaBaa's? Kooky.

How Shane Horgan is there ahead of Fionn Carr is beyond me, Shaggy has been utter cack in every game he's played in since he came back from injury.
