Ireland v South Africa

Steyn's not being ignored, it's just that Racing Metro aren't releasing him for the match as it falls outside of the international period

Is Ruan Pienaar going to be always selected while in Ulster yet F. Steyn is ignored.

You do know that F. Steyn is in the squad as well right? The problem is that he is still playing for Racing Metro this weekend so he will join the squad on monday

I know that but technically would I be correct in saying Racing Metro are obliged to release him as it's in the IRB window.
And I knew he was in squad but was also refferring to PDVs comments on oversea players and well the war of word with French in media last month

This game falls out of the IRB window, hence they do not have to release him

If South Africa play to the best of their ability they might keep Ireland below 50 points. Easy home win.

Kirchner against O'Driscoll and D'Arcy? Ireland by a million.

Yup, this weekend is technically outside of the window,
It's why Andy Powell isn't going to the Wales squad until next week

That is a very strong pack, not sure if our forwards will be able to match them in the set piece...................

Oh my bad I thought all of the 4 weeks were in the window. Guess it great for Ireland that we don't have any of them problems and that the Ospreys are like the Irish provinces.
Snoop agree withyou fully I think we could do damage. Our backline should be well in tune seen as they're all Leinster except Bowe. And pack are all infine form

When do they anounce the finalised final squad?
Like, do they wait until the morning of the match to see whether JDV/Willem Alberts are fit?
Bet Mvovo/Daniel (and to a lesser extent Lambie) are hoping they're ruled out :p

Are you a fan of "The who" by any chance Snoop :D

That's a pretty big call ... the Bok forwards look pretty good at least, and apart from the Centres (if JDV is out) the back line doesn't look that bad.

Steyn might kick you guys to death too ... if you infringe too much

Ha we have Sexton to ignite our backs then ROG will close it out. And here is a good question if we did it man for man what way do we think it'd be

Interesting for Zane to be running at centre but the 'boks look good none the less.

Tell you what, the Irish boys sound more confident than the us Bok supporters.

What I don't like about the team:

Spies at 8... We know him already. Not good enough. Absolutely scandalous that Vermuelen/Alberts/Kankowski wasn't chosen in place of him. The Andy Powell of SA rugby?

Ruan Pienaar at 9... Yeah he's got experience and has a better kicking game than Hougaard but I feel we need keep as many existing combinations together as possible. The Hougaard/Steyn partnership has been REALLY good lately and they've been playing for most of the season.

Kirchner at 13... Duh. Who actually likes this selection? If someone does, stone them. BUT I do understand the logic behind it. Although Kirchner is ineffective at joining the line when playing 15 and is predictable on attack, we do know what we have in him. Steady and not flashy. In other words if he f***s up it will be because he is simply not of International standard rather than him doing something flashy and stupid ala Frans Steyn.
I would rather have 11) Mvovo/Hougaard 13) Habana 14) Basson. Habana would however need to resist not to "prematurely eject" from the line of defense (suppose to sound bad) which he has mastered this year.

So overall not THAT terrible on the bad side.

Things I like about the team:

Settled tight 5... We so badly need a solid foundation for this game with our bits-and-bobs for a backline. Such a pity the SA Player Of The Year Steenkamp is unavailable due to a broken arm. Jannie Du Plessis is looking a solid option at 3 nowdays, very good to see.

Stegmann at 6... No surprise everybody accepted this selection with no fuss. This guy is good. Well deserved call up and exactly the type of player we need. Must keep infringements down though. Sexton will literally kick us into oblivion.

Basson at 14... Hoping he can carry that sensational Currie Cup onto the big stage. Deserves he crack at the 14 jersey.

-----------

With all that in mind I do believe we'll win this game. We brag about depth in SA rugby now is the time to show it. The odds are not in our favour but these guys are professionals and need to get on with it, and but what has been said from press conferences they seem to have that mentality going into this game.
No excuses. C'mon guys, lets break this weird and frustrating record the Irish have against us!

Pretty good.

Would have liked Daniel to start over Stegman and Alberts over Spies, and I never thought I would say this, but Jacobs over Kirchner.

But yeah well, the more he loses the bigger chance he'll get fired. So I'm happy either way.

Glad to see the Boks have selected a genuine openside flanker in Stegmann. I still think they made a major error in not including Louw on the tour, but I do think Stegmann will do a good job. I agree with the previous two posters on Spies - I'd much prefer to see the likes of Alberts of Vermuelen at 8, as their work rate is far superior to Spies.

It will be interesting to see how Kirchner goes at 13. My biggest criticism of him at fullback is that he kicked the ball too much. When he actually runs the ball he can be quite elusive - personally I don't think he deserves to start at 13, but I think he will actually do an ok job.

Boks are fielding their best pack of 2010, yes even if there's no Kankowski or Vermeulen at n.8 and Burger is injuried.

But... looking at the backs... well someone fell in love with Jameson since they touched Irish soil!

Hope Daniel could make the cut and Lambie too, JDV is pretty tired, played horribly in CC Final!
