Ireland v Australia - 30 November 2024

Ireland got all the calls yet again… what a surprise. Their 16th man won them another game. No wonder they've got such a good home record. Away teams in Dublin get absolutely nothing time and time again. Can't stand Ireland, the sooner they're back to being where they belong the better.
Agreed, feels wrong that we're not number 1.

Yeah fair. Usually follows Farrell's lead though. JGP and McCarthy spring to mind.

I think Sam and Jack are playing at a very similar level with very different strengths and weaknesses. Jack probably the better bench option so arguably a bit more pressure on him to raise his game in order to own the jersey. Sam's literally a burst of acceleration away from being the man imo.
On selection it big call. We know Byrne R is on way out. Will Harry be pushed too. And if Frawley not an option permanently as a 10 and seen as utility back then what will he do as he is on record as wanting to be a 10 exclusive.

On Sam, I'd disagree. He needs not of development in strength. He was conceding yards in tackles today. And that isn't a criticism as he is only 21. I think Jack showed more range today but that can happen.

Clearly you could have written this post before the kick off! Piardi was equally awful for both teams. His reffing of the breakdown was "interesting", and both teams were astute enough to make hay when the opportunity allowed. Both teams looked pleasantly surprised by some of the decisions they got.
Despite the win, I think that Australia will be the happier team going into the review. Ireland have a lot of problems to solve, and I'm not convinced that Easterby is the man to solve them. Goodman is clearly stealing a living, and POC needs to deliver a reliable lineout….

I think you have to give Goodman time. We were so error strewn in 2020 / 21 amd even 2013 when Farrell and Scmidt implemented attacking systems. These things take time as you try to evolve.

The big worry is the insistance on Ryan, McCarthy, Beirne. Pick two and bench one. Has beem obvious since summer.

The leinster man thinks sam is the answer, the munster man is saying crowley is better....

I wonder what could be causing this disconnect.

If Ireland play like they have this Autumn then France will give them a proper pasting in the 6N. The only part of their game that i would still say is excellent is their defence. The line-out is a shambles and the attack is one-dimensional and laboured. The Ireland of 2023 would have won all 4 tests comfortably - I don't even think any of their opponents were great this month.

Agree on picking the 3 of them, its nonsensical. Beirne is a world class lock, started as a tweener, but I think those days are gone.

No Sam will be superb playe r but is still developing physically. He isn't a freak of a build so has to build naturally.

Aye, we're very reasonable by the current stamdards online! Want both to do well just think Sam's skills are better for statring and Jack's are better for impact!

Home teams always get the rub - particularly in Rugby. That's why winning away is harder.

I thought the main issue with the reffing was the ruck. Led to a frankly boring game. Though from a personal perspective the knock-on that led to a try was quite hard to swallow.

Oh and head contact on Valetini has been officiated as a yellow all Autumn and suddenly it isnt? Absolutely ridiculous inconsistency.
