Ireland RWC 11 Thread

On the plus side no O'Leary with the lovely Murray brought in.

Big negative for me is the omission of Luke Fitzgerald who defensively has not really put a foot wrong and in my opinion is in far better form than Earls.
Again Earls has had 1 ok game and 1 poor game but had super season and well Luke has had 12 months **** poor form and 1 poor game and 1 ok game with a cameo in other.
Can't see anyone agreeing Earls should've been omitted and well Luke was overlooked in favour of McFadden and rightly so Luke and O'Leary aren't worth bringing in their current form.

Well surely that a bit bias because I'm sure even Leinster fans agree Earls is rightly ahead of Fitzgearld.
Fitzgearld got hammered by fact Trimble and McFadden who were both under the scope performed and earned their colours while Fitzgearld is still stuck in poor form.

Meh I think Fitzgerald is solid as a rock.. I really without any bias think that he is better than Earls ..I am not very biased really I would have Murray above any other Scrumhalf in Ireland.

@ munstermuffI actually agree with McLaughlin being the worst of the 3 - I was simply pointing out that he did not get the same quality of game time as the other 2, so his chance was not as "fair". Would it have changed things? No, I don't think so.I'm also not saying that Ryan didnt rightly earn his chance back in 2008, but he has not kicked on since then at an international level.I thought McCarthy was 29, which is late but not so late as to be seen as a negative. Maybe he wasn't as good 2-3 years ago but that doesnt mean he cant be good enough now... and on a straight comparison between him and Ryan from what joe public has got to see in the tests, McCarthy was as good. What we've seen of McCarthy at test level has been good, Ryan has been more mixed over his longer tenure in the setup, but if we can call them equal then something must have swayed it.... familiarity over new blood? Kidney def has shown form in this scenario before...

I'm not too bothered about Ryan's selection. He won't be up against any top second rows or flankers in all probability.
What happens is DOC, POC or Cullen get injured? What are you going to do? Not use the bench?

As for Buckley, surely the rationale is that he won't be playing anyone other than the minnows
Same question applies. What happens if Ross gets injured?

We are all (except for the one man cheer leading squad I presume) accepting the selections in the hope that the guys wont have to play. Does no one else find that seriously ****ing odd?

There's three and a half main quibbles with the squad -

1. Luke Fitzgerald. There was always going to be one harsh cut here. We all thought it would be McFadden, but I think we needed him for inside centre more than anything else. Hopefully it'll save us playing Paddy Wallace at inside centre. Trimble has best form and I know some people are calling to cut Earls because of a poor first half against Scotland and a stinker against France (part 2) but Fitzgerald has been shite all last season ****** to playing him just for his defence, we need tries, and 2 in 21 internationals won't do. Right call.

1.5 Paddy Wallace? Why didn't we give McFadden time at outhalf and see if Humphries or Keatley could play 10? Is Paddy Wallace Kidney's love child? Hopefully this world cup is the end of him in International rugby.

2. Ryan - We all accept it, whoever would have gone we'd have seen the same argument with names rotated. Log seems to have a major objection to it, but if McCarthy or McLoughlin were 4th choice second row and 6th choice backrow we'd hardly be full of joy either.

3. Tony Buckley - Hopefully it's Tom Court in the bench, because Tony Buckley is just a bad player. Yup, Hagan should have been tried, or that Brett Wilkinson fella. But our options here a shite anyway/. No point in arguing about this or complaining about it/ It was a bad call and we all have to deal with it.

You do know if those 3 get injured I presume Micko, Toner and McCarthy (not in order mentioned) will be flown over.
And Log if Ross gets injured then Court will be at 3 and Hayes will probably be added to squad.

@raziel I agree it helped Ryan that he has been around the squad and well McCarthy wasn't bad in the tests but I just think Ryan is used to a more higher tempo from being with Munster and his familiarity with all lineout calls etc helped. I know McCarthy has big-game experience with Wasps but I just think (and it clear seeing Ian Keatley) that Connacht truly are a stepping stone and well their tempo and skillsets are alot lower as they just seem to know there isn't much to play for really. They can't be relegated and know they won't win H Cup or Rabo12

Just to take issue with one small point. I'm used to Kiddenme making shite selections tinted with the usual bias. I actually take issue with idiot fanboys trying to justify these shite selections with logic like "ahhh sure they wont get any game time anyway", and "hes been impressive in training".

Oh and I also also object to people selling sub-standad players as better then they are. Some of these guys are simply not good enough. Saying they can put in a shift, is not a justification for any kinda selection.

Just on this point - We all agree Hagan should've been included but at Connacht it hard to get noticed. Wilkinson was announced in the training squad but picked up an injury in first few days that ruled him out. But Buckley was picked realistically over Hayes and Horan and if either of them were included people would still be *****ing and moaning.

No one said Ryan was a super player etc just he was probably the best of 3 in Kidney's eyes. All 3 are only Rabo12 level and well McLaughlin is far behind the other 2 it seems.

Initially i thought that kidney was only picking irish based players but when geordan murphy was selected i have to ask were downey and wilson not even considered because they were just not good enough.
Downey gives a completely different option at 12 predictable as it is and wilson has been one of the best 8s for the last 2 years in england.

It's not hard to get noticed if you don't have a coach that downright ignores 1/4 of the pro teams in the country.

Looks like O'Brien is out for England, and probably the opening WC match against the US. Knee injury in Training.

Thank **** we have Leamy and Ryan to cover 6.

Well how many times do you see Kidney at a Connacht match - Once in a blue moon. He occasionally visits Ulster and is nearly always at RDS or Thomond Park. So that it first challenge and then secondly it's hard to fully apply yourself if your loosing most of time.
It a hell of alot easier to get noticed in other provinces.

And Log - Ferris will be at 6 if fit and well it was unlikely O'Brien would've featured against US as he would've been 1 of few rested as he has played alot of rugby already.

Downey maybe should have got a chance but Wilson would've been behind Heaslip and O'Brien. Also as far as I can tell he doesn't cover 6 either so Leamy would be ahead of him and then there wouldn't be room left.

Buckley's continuing his transition into a utility prop by starting at loosehead for Sale tomorrow night :(

Versatile. Thats how they build em in Munster. It offers quite a lot to sides so dont underestimate how useful it is to have a collapsing point capable of moving across the front row.

Log it wasn't Munster who made Buckley versatile it was Ireland and Gert Smal so maybe you'll have to do homework before making the statement.
