hypothetical lions team 2011?

yes but he will be the same at 7 as he is at 6. and earles has been brilliant so theres no point in putting an off form roberts instead of a on form earles but on the other hand roberts and bod have a great combination

I don't believe SOB has been as good as Warburton this 6 Nation or even in the AI's. Earles has not really played at centre internationally so you cannot really select him at 12.

SOB has not played this 6 Nations at 7 and Warburton pretty much dominated that 7 shirt. Roberts may not have been spectacular but he takes teams over the gainline, again Earls has not played centre so you really can't compare to put him in there.
By that token you can't pick Bowe on the left wing when he's a right winger.

I always liked to play on the right wing. Mostly because I can't pass to my right.

Obviously you have not played at blindside or openside flanker.

Basically expected to do the same job :/ 7's are stereotypically good fetchers though Ireland have played for years without a decent fetcher and instead using big ball carrying ad tackling backrow , Openside is a more technical place to play but its alot easier to stand out as a player I feel.

I feel vastly superior having played 4, 7, 13 and 14.

Exact same as your point. Openside (7 in most countries but 6 in SA, Argentina and France) is a fetcher and a link man. Blindside is a ball carrier, tackler and auxiliary lineout option. Left wing is an out and out speedster and try scorer. Right wing gets more involved in general play. Four different positions. If you're pulling somebody up on picking a 6 at 7, why can't you be pulled up on picking a 14 at 11? It's a completely pointless exercise.

Ireland play 3 hybrids in the backrow. Both O'Brien and Wallace mix and match the roles of 6 and 7 while Heaslip mixes the job of an 8 with the role of an openside. Saying somebody can't pick O'Brien at 7 in his hypothetical Lions team is ludicrous. Who cares if he didn't wear 7 on his back during the championship? If that was the criteria for selection the Lions, Neil Jenkins should have been told to GTFO of the 15 jersey on the 1997 tour. ;)

Point being?

I'll tell you ... Warburton is a better 'fetcher' than what SOB was this 6 Nations. Not many Welshmen would make a Lions XV based on this current 6 Nations but Warburton would certainly be a shoe in at 7, regardless of SOB.

I'm not arguing that. I'm arguing your ridiculous criteria for picking players.

If given the choice though, I'd pick O'Brien 9 times out of 10 ahead of Warburton.

Of course you would, you would have an entire Irish XV for the Lions.

based purely on this six nations, there have been 3 back row potential Lions who've looked like shoe-ins, and it's very easy to make a nicely balanced back row out of them.

6. Haskell
7. Warburton
8. O'Brien

Now, if you want to bring in players who've been injured or who are still classy but not on peak form, then you can talk about your Crofts, Ferris', Heaslips and Barclays. But in terms of this 6 Nations, the back row picks itself, very nice and easy.

Watch this video and listen to what Sir Ian McGeechan says about what the British & Irish Lions means, you should have a lot more respect "dan the man nz." Rugby these days lacks genuine love of the game since the introduction of professionalism and you see the pride and emotion Sir Ian in the video where he cries after B&L Lions lose a game. Once you put on the jersey you don't just have the badge on the fabric, but embedded in your life. "Live up to that f***ing jersey" - Paul O'Connell

1. Jenkins
2. Hartley (hopefully not though)
3. Cole
4. Lawes
5. Gray
6. O'Brien
7. Wood/Warburton
8. Heaslip
9. Youngs
10. Sexton
11. Ashton
12. Roberts
13. BOD/Hook
14. Bowe
15. Foden

It's a good team but unless BOD plays at 13 there is no leader in a team that's full of hot heads. We'd need another leader in the pack as well potentially because Heaslip probably won't do the trick

Jenkins isn't that bada leader i think dose an ok job with Cardiff (if he still is the captain)
