As a Cantabrian and a New Zealander of course my opinion on him is going to be a little clouded. But I do think it's fair to say he thrived under the older rules, and when we had that extra pace and core body strength in his younger day most times there was nothing wrong with his technique (despite people saying he's a cheater at every instance back then - heaven forbid he's just a good player). These days obviously he's older, slower (has been for a long time now) and the newer rules around releasing haven't suited him as much - and he does overstep the mark a lot. He doesn't "get away with it" because he's cost my team about 2 finals in the last 4 years. Unfortunately, those calls were b0llocks, but I do see your point where he is just disregarding the rules at times. Sometimes I think to myself, you really didn't need to do that. I think myself and posters might disagree on why he oversteps the mark at times however. McCaw is definitely ready for retirement, but he does step his game up an international level and heading into this world cup i'd rather have him than not.

You might want to work on your ability to take a joke, your skin is so thin it is becoming transparent. It's a common complaint from non-Kiwis that McCaw is a dirty cheat at the breakdown and for Kiwis that the ground he walks is blessed and can do no wrong. Reality is as usual in between. Some, such as yourself, become incredibly defensive when McCaw's legality is questioned and it is funny really how you rose to that so easily.

Oh yeah, I forgot that complimenting someone in English sport means running them into the ground and attacking all their credibility. A good example was Gerrards last game at Stamford bridge. Got slaughtered by the Chelsea supporters all game, then they gave him a standing ovation when he was subbed off.

Perhaps you were too busy to start accusing me of "not having any humor" that you failed to notice the Inbetweeners reference.

Uhh, can we go a thread without being cretinous and turn this into 'this nations fans this', 'that nations fans that'...

It's boring and it's disappointing to see.

The Poms always have something to whinge about mate, in every sport.

They may or may not have everything to whinge about in sport but you are just adding more fuel to the fire, tedious and boring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everybody bloody whinges people need to get over themselves.

As for McCaw I'm a huge fan and he's a wonderful player. However he's also been guilty of some of the most blatant breakdown penalties that were not called I've ever seen. That comes from being brilliantly close to the edge most of the time and ref's playing his reputation more than rwhat the incident. That's not new either happens in scrums alot.

Well he's getting heavy criticism about his form, there's some people in NZ who aren't backing him. If he doesn't hit form by the WC or is having a bad game, I wouldn't hesitate to play Cane, he's been superb and concedes far less penalties. Richie has great leadership qualities though and once that black jersey is on, he's a different man, so I for one will always back him. Having gone to school with him and watched him for the past 20 years he always gives %100.

And Robshaw is a saint is he? I seem to remember the cheating bugger pulling a ball back into the ruck just before brown scored against us last year (that wasnt actually a try anyway due to grounding).......

If Mccaw is a cheat then Robshaw is aswell + robshaw is the most annoying player in world rugby to listen to when he tries to persuade ref's to the England way...
Look in the dictionary under winging pom and theirs a pic of him there!

And on topic im becomming almost resigned to the fact NZ's world cup is highly likely to be ruined by a referee.

So salty

Talk of getting your excuses in early!!!

To call one of the greats of a game and the greatest captain ever a 'cheat' is just poor sportsmanship and lack of respect. Richie McCaw has achieved more in his career than the entirety of English sports, football, cricket, tennis and whatever else you lot attempt to play poorly.

No one has called him a cheat. Show me that statement. People have simply stated that he toes the line of the law, and the refs tend to give him the benefit of the doubt - thats the mark of a good player. You seem quite bitter for no apparent reason. That final comment makes me think that you are trolling, just so unnecessary...

Come on let's not talk in technicalities and trivial dance of whether you used the word or not, people have heavily implied it in this thead and out off it and discredited his quality for years, primarily Poms and especially your media. Disgraceful treatment of a genuine great. Humble man who always puts in 100% and it's boring to hear sore losers calling him a cheat or talking him down.

He is a cheat at times though, as are all great 7s, it's gamesmanship nobody is saying he was a dirty player, it's hardly a stain on his reputation as I'd say he's probably the best 7 ever, or at least that I've ever seen play.

P.S. You're being a proper whinging Kiwi right now
