Highlanders v. Rebels

Who just got carded/why?
Went to let the cat out and missed it :p

Haskell ran at Johannsen, threw a last second pass, Johannsen continued to tackle him after the ball was gone, lifted him, turned him and dropped him. Ref thought it might have been a spear tackle but wasn't sure, so he gave a white card and yellow card.

It was soft though, should get thrown out by the citing commissioner.

Ah, fair enough.

Rebels 3 - 0 in the 10mins, not too shabby!

Edit: He says as Highlanders run in a try...

Try Highlanders!
Ben Smith, great power and fend. 9-7 to Rebels.
Smith and Noakes have each missed a penalty.
Johansson back on now.

Ben Smith is a superstar. Hopefully he gets more of a look in with the all blacks now that some of the outside backs have left.

Very soft yellow and I thInk they know it as the one In the second half was worse (still not bad though) and only got a penelty

Great to watch for us, good to see some tries and don't think there were any injuries

Thomson got heaps of praise for this match, but I'm sick to death of seeing him on the wing. I sware, he loiters on the wing for like 30+ minutes of this match. Meanwhile, Hosea Gear is running around the park like a mad man trying to make it to every breakdown. So frustrating. People who say Gear has got a bad work rate need to look at this match. I preferred it when he stayed on the wing and finished off the tries than the way he played today. Everywhere but there to finish off the tries.

I only caught the last 20 minutes, and saw him 'loitering with intent' on the wing a couple of times, but I wasn't sure if that was due to the game being fairly well won already and himself in search of his hat-trick. I can definitely see that if he'd been doing that the whole time then it would be problematic. Perhaps it will be a problem when the Highlanders are in tighter games, but then again perhaps he'll be more disciplined in tighter games.

How did the Thompson at 6 Haskell at 7 experiment go?

He's as good a finisher as most wings though and knows where to be. Makes for a great fantasy rugby loose forward and I'm just miffed that I didn't have him as captain. Close to a 100 points in the bag from Thomson in Fox Sports F S15 and still his +/- 20 tackles to come!!

(referring to Haskell) I wasn't paying much attention to him, but from what I remember he had a pretty solid game. It's hard to shine in a backrow with Thompson and Manu playing well. But Haskell was probably doing a lot of the hard work in the end.

I'm a rebels fan :D

I'm not expecting a win, but would like them to keep it close - if they can play like they did the first 25mins or so last week, but for the whole match, it should be good.

JOC will be a boost, however I thought that Lloyd Johannsen (sp?) played pretty well at 12 last week, and offered something different to what JOC/Cipriani bring to the midfield area.

You sure do know how to pick 'em son!

I'm a bit of a fan too. But I think it was pretty naive of them to bring in superstar backs and not strengthen the pack, let alone finding a quality replacement for Somerville.

Man yet another game where the Highlanders don't get pinged at the breakdown or the maul for that matter. I don't know how many times I counted their players coming around the ruck/maul. I think the Rebels were hard done by in the end of the first half. That was well and truly advantage over, with what 15+ phases after the penalty advantage?... And then you see the replay and it wasn't even a head high, it was one of those over the shoulder tackles and Poki just happens to be 4 ft it looks worse than it really is...

Benefit of the doubt to the referee for seeing it how he did, but to carry on the advantage from one side of the field to the other then back to the other??... Pathetic IMO.

I feel if the Rebels had gone into the second half at 12-5 it would've been a different ball game. And why did they take off Beale and Delve?.. In saying that, the Highlanders controlled the game throughout, I'm just over the inconsistent refereeing.

How did Haskell play?

I think he did fairly well. Did a lot of the tight work and had some fairly indistinct runs, but solid enough performance. Probably wouldn't start ahead of John Hardie (mainly because Haskell isn't really an openside), but I think he's pretty good. I'd like to see him start at 6 with Thomson at 7 (which may force him to do more work) in the next game.

i didn't watch the game :( was in training :X

i checked my fantasy and saw thomson 3 tries!!! 107 points :( why didn't I make him captain :(

I saw Gear got 44 points!!! must have had a good game!!! good one Gear!!! I hope he gets a ALL Blacks call up!!!

How was Ben & Aaron Smith??? the AB needs a scrumhalf in aaron :D and a backup FB in Ben...

I thought Haskell played really well, not game winning but did his role really well

I thInk Thompson ended up on the wing a bit was just the pace of the game, still got into the mix enough for me and with Haskell and Manu...and king doing alot of graft around the Ruck he had licence

Smith and smith. Both had great games, smith is looking less and less like a flash in the pan and more and more like the next all black halfback. SmIth has got to be back in the AB frame and with toeava injured its got to be between him and dagg

In the end I was just stoked we played the game with intent, we came back looking for blood after the loss last week, we looked like a team who had strips ripped off them by their coach and responded. These guys care what Jamie thinks of them

I thought Haskell played well too - He wasn't as noticeable as he could be, but he was playing 7 so was in the rucks a lot.
