Highlanders v Cheetahs

Thats a fair half time score I feel, Highlanders have been strong, second try was scored because of a really good running line, where as the first shouldn't have been allowed imo, but they would have scored as there was far too much support to prevent it.

Cheetahs had a couple of decisions that have gone against them, like when the ref obstructed Pretorius at the one ruck, and when the Highlander kicked the ball and the Cheetah was adjudged to have knocked-on, when the ball actually hit his stomach (not that I don't see why it would not have been a legal charge down anyways, maybe smartcooky can enlighten me)

Not a bad game - both teams were keen to run the ball, they just lacked the skill level to do it on some occasions. If the Highlanders were more clinical I feel they could have put the game beyond doubt, but the last pass almost invariably found its way into a Cheetahs players hands. Because of their lack of clinical finishing, the Highlanders had to rely on the Cheetahs poor goal-kicking to get the win in the end.

Some good performances in the forwards for the Highlanders, Hoeata and Thomson particularly stood out to me, though I feel Thomson was lucky not to get penalised more than he was. Slade looked very classy at first-five, his performance certainly helped his case to be Carters backup at the RWC. Lynn probably had his best game of the season (after having his worst game last week), while Poki also looked dangerous with the ball in hand. Smith, as always, was brilliant at fullback.

I figured moving Smith to Centre to accomodate bringing Robinson into 15 would be the Highlanders best bet. Now Lynn has shown he deserves the 13 jersey and Smith looks more comfortable at 15 every week.. Also, i always figured Bekhuis and Donnelly would have the locking spots sewn up but Hoeata is playing like his life depends on it.

The Highlanders are used to selection woes but finally they are of the positive variety, things are looking up for the southern boys.

Congratulations Higlanders with the win.:)
<O:p</O:p
Congratulations Cheetahs you guys are really playing some great rugby under the circumstances, I am really impressed.:D<O:p</O:p

Good game both teams. Lot of rugby and not much kicking, good stuff.

Going by past seasons, when the Highlanders play the Cheetahs no one would be expecting a quality game of footy... But that was definitely a good game.

... i hope that the Highlanders don't start worrying about getting bonus points... they should just play their kind of rugby

I just about picked this game spot on in Ezequiel's prediction game ... I picked 25 - 22 to the Highlanders (3 tries each) ... only out by 1 point for both sides :D

I dunno about you guys but i quite enjoyed this game last night.
THe Highlanders remind me of the Gwent Dragons in Wales. They have no huge stars, they're never at the top of the table, but they play with heart, they play together and for the Highlanders this year...they're playing well.
I had them predicted as winners for last weeks and last nights games and rightly so. They're 5th in the overall rankings right now and how long can they keep themselves in the play off position? Who cares, i'm just enjoying watching a team playing well (maybe not spectacularly like the crusaders, but they've been playing some of their best rugby in years right now) and get the results they deserve for it.

They let it slack last night a little against a very weak cheetahs performance. THey were the dominant force all game and yet the continued to let the cheetahs have a sniff of the game.
They need to work on that for sure, but you've got to give them their credit.

Now, heading off to the pub to get ready to watch the crusaders bulls and then Brumbies Hurricanes!

Game was good, Slade looked class as always, if he's not Carters backup for RWC, I have lost all hope.

Yeah it's been great being a Highlanders supporter this year... you've chosen the right year to make the move to the Highlanders region! Over the last few years the Highlanders have usually been competitive in most games, but have invariably lost the close games.. we were bound to get half a dozen bonus points for losing within 7 during the season. This year has been different though, as we have won all the close games (much as the Southland ITM Cup team did last year). Hope they can keep it up for the whole season :)
