Morning, Gents. I am just starting the rugby sport and am searching proper cleats. The club I am joining said that my speed and size will put me in the flanker position. I have been reading on the internet that low cut shoes are better for speed in the flanker but I have terribly weak ankles. Would it be better for me to get a higher shoe or lower shoe and purchase additional ankle supports.

Sorry if it's been posted before. I was unsuccessful in searching

It also depends on the pitch you play, if the grass is wet and slippery most of the time, then get higher cleats, if the pitch is harder then get lower cleats.

I think low cut shoes + ankle supports would be best, in my opinion.

Mid/High cut shoes are relatively rare these days, from boot manufacturers. You'd also have the option of playing without the supports if your ankles get better or stronger, or whatever.

Thanks for the fast response, guys. I also read to start calling them boots haha. I will do that.

I'm leaning towards the low with the ankle supports for all reasons stated.

Thanks again.
